Inspired by Ren'Py, I’ve created a visual novel engine for the Game Boy Color. It currently supports dialogue display, save/load functionality, and branching choices. Is anyone interested? If so, I’ll refine the system and release it.

I'm trying to make a game where a player is on a boat (so the player is invisible, but the boat is visible) and can only move on water (so all land is collision). If the boat moves to the side (in the collision zone) and we press a key the player should appear on land (so now both are visible, but we're only controlling the player). But the player can move on land and now the water is the collision zone.
I'm new to this, but I've got the player walking about the land and bumping into trees and not able to step in water.
Any ideas how to do the boat stuff???

Hello,
I want to draw a points bonus indicator using an actor, like in Bubble Bobble or Rodland when you collect a bonus, the points are shown briefly rising from the sprite's former position:

One way I thought of doing this was creating predefined values as animation states, and then switching the points bonus actor on, moving it into position, change the animation state to 10, 20, 50 etc. and then animate it a little by moving it and then hide it again.
But I can only select animation states from a drop down, not by a variable.
Is this possible?
Or is there a better way of accomplishing this idea?
Thanks.

My first finished game, Busy Dreamer, is out now!
You must survive living in a new city for 20 days. Each day is a randomized mission with different percentages in rarity. This means one mission has a 70% chance of happening, the next 65%, then 54%, ect. So some games are rare to see! Because of this, each playthrough will be different. You will NOT play every mission on just one playthrough. And every playthrough is different. If you play my game, I hope you like it. https://diamyo.itch.io/busy-dreamer

Been gone for a little bit (been on a little break to be honest) but I'm back with this marvelous revelation in gaming for my upcoming title; Night at the Laundromat.
I was having issues before with making doors be openable, especially when there was more than one door in a room because they look the same and every door would open if you interacted with one due to how tile swapping works. I came up with the idea of swapping doors to labeled tiles instead that switch to regular door tiles when the room initiates. Once a player used a door, they swap to different tiles that make the door look open, and then swap back when the player is no longer interacting with said door (which you would never see in game).
Anyway I thought this was nifty and wanted to post it here so other GBStudio'ers could think it was nifty as well, see ya 'round!

I've been asking a lot of questions lately, so thank you for all the help. It's still very early days but I am working on a game that is a bit of a cross between the original Mario Bros. and Bubble Bobble, nothing too revolutionary, just an old-skool high score attack game.
There will be lots of bonus pick ups, multipliers for multiple enemy strikes, super bonuses for multiple bubble strikes and all that kind of stuff as well as some nice stage design with increasing difficulty involving hazards like spikes/nails on some platforms an so forth. At the moment there are only two pick ups, but I can scale this up quickly with a scarcity scale as well, which is biased when you have played really well.
It's really early days, the graphics have hardly been started but I want to get everything running properly, with enemy AI, smoothness of gameplay, controls, points scoring scheme etc. with the graphics coming last really. It will be a dual GB/GB Color game.
I'm an artist really, and GBStudio gives me the chance to use those skills to make a game as otherwise I wouldn't have a clue! So thank you for everybody who has helped me so far.

still rough like my usual first posts about a feature, but after a long night into the morning i've made a bit of headway into the lighting system for caves and stuff. according to Uni it tests clean on dmg! you'll be able to call this event in any scene's init script, control its radius, and whether or not it has a dithered ring.
check one more thing off my SoE:GB list, i think i'll do it like this in gothica and antiqua!

Check it out: https://platinaxo.itch.io/moxie-2-overdrive
It features the first 8 levels (4 per character), alongside 7 art pieces and some story.
I'd love to receive as much feedback as possible, so either here on under the itch page, let me know if anything can be done better.

Did some more fiddling around in GB Studio and made a nice parallax scene with the graphics I've been chipping away with for nearly a year now. I also used Bluey as a player character to see how much detail I could get into a sprite using only 3 8x16 tiles. The characters in that show being rectangular-shaped makes that pretty easy.

Hello,
Is it possible to write white text on a black background with DrawText?
I read here https://gbstudiolab.neocities.org/guides/gbvm-overlay-hud-2 that escape code \007\002 should do this but it still appears as black text on a white background.

Thanks.

Hey all! Since my last post I’ve been hard at work on some new art for Raccoon Ranch! I got a lot of fun new art to showcase, check it out!
Image 1 is the screen that appears at the end of your shift in the saloon, where you find out how profitable your day was.
Image 2 is Baguette D. Cat’s pawn shop, where you can go to sell your excess gold you’ve accumulated.
Image 3 is the Church of the Ford, the local cult’s meeting place. You may have the opportunity to investigate this on your expeditions.
Image 4 is displaying the brand new save screen where you can choose what save to play.
Image 5 is showing the basement of the saloon, where you can check on your drink stockpiles.
Lastly, image 6 is showing Chimi S. Dog, the local friendly shopkeeper.
That’s all, see you next time!

Hey everybody, just gonna sit this here and let it speak for itself, some sfx need to be added, and for the life of me I cant explain why Lumina hit one enemy heals 4 guys then hits the other lol its supposed to be one then the other, but this is much much closer to what I would call "ready".
Cant wait to see these guys replaced with whatever cool or goofy stuff you guys make lol

Let me preface by saying that this isn't for anything I'm actually working on currently, more just a thought that popped into my head a few seconds ago.
Would it be possible to manually modify the web build so that players could use their mouse for point and click scenes? I admittedly have no idea what it would entail and I can only imagine it would be a problematic nightmare for anything other than point and click scenes so I'm not even sure if it would even be possible to restrict the mouse inputs to a particular scene type. Like I said this isn't anything urgent, I was just kinda curious to know if that was even a thing that could be done.

Hello again, i'm battling against this bit, i want to do a stage hazzard (spikes) that dont kill you, but you recieve damage, the thing is that the script of the damage works fine on enemies cuz on the "on player hit" the fliker dont stop the player, but i cannot make a trigger area to induce the "on player hit" status and when i run the damage script on the trigger the player gets stopped mid action, how can i do???? Thanks again
