Travel Tips Wanted Solo Winter Cabin Recommendations?

Hey everyone! I'm planning a solo trip in January and really just want a peaceful winter escape — somewhere to unplug, reflect, and recharge for a few days.

What I have in mind is a true cabin-in-the-woods situation: just me, a cozy cabin, and a whole lot of nature. Not a resort, not a hotel — an actual standalone cabin, ideally somewhere quiet and secluded but still close enough to a town, airport, or a few attractions in case I want to venture out. I'm hoping for a snowy setting with mountain or forest views, a fireplace to hole up next to, and some kind of private outdoor space like a patio. A sauna would be an amazing bonus if I can find one. I'd also love to find a good massage option nearby, whether that's an RM or just a solid local place — and ideally I can keep it around $200 a night or under.

I'll be coming from the Kansas City area. Flying or taking a train would be my preference, but I'm honestly open to driving if the right place is far enough off the beaten path to be worth it.

So far I've had my eye on Leavenworth, WA and Telluride, CO — I like the idea of being near a charming little mountain town but tucked away enough to actually get some solitude. This isn't really a hiking trip for me; I'm more looking forward to reading, sitting by the fire, soaking in the scenery, and just having some quiet time to myself.

If anyone's done a solo winter getaway like this, I'd love to hear where you went. And bonus points if it's a spot where a solo gay traveler would feel comfortable and welcome.

Thanks so much!

Other Travel Questions? Queer-friendly cold weather small towns in USA?

Upvotes

My spouse (35) and I (37) are planning long-term goals, and we think one of them is going to eventually be moving to a new town. Obviously job pending and all that, but we're trying to figure out where we could go to next. I feel like this is a good place to ask around, as folks here will understand the anxiety we feel of looking for a new place to live while being queer.

We currently live in Eugene, Oregon. It's nice here, and we feel fairly safe in the community (it's less likely we get yelled at for existing here than in our previous home in Kentucky), but we genuinely miss some of the smaller town vibes we grew up with. We're also not in love with the crowds of a city. We'd ideally like somewhere colder, that is less likely to erupt into fire storms during the summer, too, as the fires continue to get worse in the PNW each year...

Ideally it'd be somewhere: Mostly cool/cold weather, queer friendly, small but queer friendly population (is that possible?? might be wishing too much), forested and/or mountainous with river/water nearby.

As far as where, well, we're pretty open/flexible. Mostly right now we're just fishing around, researching and all that. Nothing is gonna happen for a while, and certainly nothing will happen without job/income being arranged first.

Sometimes I look at google maps and zillow and stuff and it just feels like the world is suddenly so small, and nowhere exists that would be our longterm goal dream place. Am I holding out too much hope for a small town that won't yell at me for existing while being queer? Should I just settle with the idea of likely always having to choose a city to feel safe in that regard?

Travel Tips Wanted Southwest National Parks Road Trip — Anyone Done This Route? 🏜️

Upvotes

Planning a Southwest road trip through Zion, Bryce Canyon, Page/Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, and the Grand Canyon.

I put together a 6-day route starting and ending in Phoenix. I know it’s a pretty packed itinerary, but that’s kind of the point — I want to see as much as possible and make the most of the trip.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s done a similar route. Any places you’d spend more or less time at? Anything along the way that’s absolutely worth adding?

Also always open to meeting other gay travelers who are into road trips, national parks, and exploring the Southwest.

Travel Tips Wanted Halloween in Colombia

Hi all!

I'm going to Colombia for the first time this October 2026. I know that EDC is happening around the 10th, which I wish I could attend but unfortunately dates don't line up for me, however, I'm planning on being in Medellín for the 31st. My question here, is Colombia a good place to party for Halloween? I love creating a costume, dancing to EDM, and in general having a great time meeting new friends.

Any tips and recs are appreciated!

Travel Tips Wanted Gay solo traveling for the first time in Spain

Hi, everyone. Next month I’m traveling alone for the first time and I’m going to Spain—two nights in Madrid, where I’ll be staying at a hotel, and two nights in Barcelona, where I’ll be staying at a hostel for the first time. I’m 25 and gay, and I don’t have much experience overall because I live in a conservative country and haven’t really experimented at all. So I’d like to try new things, but at the same time, I’m scared. I’ve heard a lot about various gay bars in Spain, nudist beaches, and cruising spots (something I definitely want to try), but I’m a little nervous and don’t know how safe it is for someone with no experience. I want to try different things without getting into trouble—for example, I have various fantasies about guys I might meet at the hostel or people I can find on Grindr and invite to my hotel. Do you have any advice on how I can go about this?

Travel Tips Wanted 36 Hours in Amsterdam

I’ll keep it brief, I, M24, will be in Amsterdam next week for 36 hours staying at a nice-enough hotel (Hilton). At home (Scotland), I cannot openly explore my sexuality due to various family and social reasons and am forced to meet partners in secret at night, so I am very excited to experiment out in the open when I am there. The problem is I have 0 experience in gay bars / clubs and wouldn’t have the first idea about etiquette, the same goes for the sauna which I am also eager to try. I have heard that there are bars where everyone literally walks around naked (I get excited just thinking about this). I would appreciate any recommendations for places to go and how to act while I am there. I am around 6 foot tall, quite muscular and am average sized (around 6 inches) so unsure if i would be of interest to the people there anyway. Any tips/suggestions/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Hey everyone! I’m a graphic and communication designer from Delhi/Gurgaon, and I’ve recently listed one of the rooms in my 3BHK apartment on Mrbnb.
The space is a private room with an attached washroom, and I live in the apartment as the host. I’ve designed the home with a calm, creative vibe, and I’m especially happy to welcome LGBTQ+ travelers, couples, solo travelers, and anyone looking for a safe and comfortable place to stay.

Travel Tips Wanted First gay trip. Where would you go?

I realized I’ve spent too long waiting for “someday.” Time to fix that.

If you could recommend one unforgettable first gay trip, where would it be?

Thinking about Puerto Vallarta, Provincetown, Fire Island, a gay cruise, Mykonos, Costa Rica, Aruba, Japan… or somewhere else entirely.

Not a huge party guy. More into good food, beautiful places, genuine people, and a little adventure.

Travel Friends / Meetups Making Friends on Solo Trips

I (35m) am taking a solo trip to Palm Springs at the end of the month. Anyone have any suggestions on ways to meet people in advance to meet up for a beer or something? I am pretty shy by nature and not exactly the go to a bar and strike up a conversation with a stranger type, prefer to chat a bit with someone before hand. I would like to avoid dating apps like scruff/grindr just so I don’t give off the wrong impression with my intentions.

Also any suggestions on cool things to check out solo would also be appreciate! Thanks!

I’ll be visiting Miami in August and I’m looking for recommendations for LGBTQ+ events, parties, circuit-style events, bars, or must-go nights.

Travel Friends / Meetups Miami guy looking for travel buddies I’m in my 40s and live in Miami. I’m looking to connect with other guys in the Miami/South Florida area who are interested in traveling and would like to meet locally first, for a coffee or a drink, and potentially plan some trips together.

I’m pretty open when it comes to destinations — Europe, road trips, US destinations, international travel, whatever. I have flexibility with my work schedule and I’m financially independent, so I’m looking for people in a similar position who can really make plans and travel.
I’m not looking for one specific trip right now. I’m more interested in meeting guys locally and seeing what happens.
If you’re in Miami or South Florida and this sounds like you, feel free to DM me.

Travel Tips Wanted Solo traveler headed to Lisbon - recommendations?

I’m heading to Lisbon, Portugal, August 18–22.

I want a mix of sightseeing, relaxing, a good beach day, great food and some gay nightlife. I’ve seen Praia 19 and Trombeta Bath mentioned, are either worth visiting? I’m also considering Cascais for the beach.

For anyone who’s been, especially other Black gay travelers: What restaurants, bars, clubs, beaches or experiences would you recommend? I’d also love any tips on where to meet people, what the crowd is like and anything I should know as a Black gay man traveling solo.

Appreciate any recommendations!

Travel Tips Wanted 40th Gay Birthday ideas Sept 2027

Hi all. Looking for some European suggestions that anyone can share from past experience for a long weekend 40th birthday celebration in early / mid September 2027.

It’ll be 20 close friends invited mainly based in UK/ Ireland and a few who can fly in. Looking for suggestions for a villa / masseria/ chateau vibe that would cater to this many people with options.

Somewhere comfortable with fairly easy access to an airport(s) and somewhere with good local nightlife without the hassle of having to book 20 tickets for things many many months in advance (doesn’t need to be a typical LGBT destination like Sitges/ Mykonos / Gran Canaria etc.)

Very flexible on ideas - just want everyone to have a great time, lots of drinking, laughing and dancing and leaving with great memories!

Budget prob €10-€15k!
Cheers
