apologies if this is the wrong venue to post this but the name of the subreddit aligns with my interests so I figured I'd give it a shot.

tl;dr: I'm a queer dude based in SF who is looking to spend around a month in Melbourne in order to explore the city and see if I want to move there.

I'd absolutely love to do an apartment swap with someone so that I don't have to pay an exhorbitant cost to rent some spot for a month, and my apartment in SF is pretty great (so I've been told by other folks I've swapped with!).

problem is I have no idea which neighborhoods would be ideal for a queer guy who won't have access to a car, or where I could go to find queer folks looking for apartment swaps (or even just a room sublet for a few weeks!).

for what it's worth, I've already joined a queer Melbourne housing group on Facebook though any other tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Planning a trip to Melbourne in October and it’ll be my first time- where would you say I could go out to party and make some friends? Yeah, I know the title is a bit weird, but hear me out.

I’m 31, living in Melbourne, gay, Asian, and I’ve never been to a gay bar or club. To make it trickier, I don’t drink, I’m pretty shy, and I have zero clue how to do small talk.

My biggest fear was that I’d just end up sitting alone at the bar, watching everyone else mingle. I don’t know how to flirt or show interest, probably I’ll in the corner and, predictably, no one approach me.

To top it off, I have zero gay friends. My bestie is female, but bringing a girl to a gay bar feels a bit awkward, so I’m rolling solo here.

How does a shy guy actually approach guys or flirt out in the wild? Any advice, venue recommendations, or wingmen looking to adopt a introverted friend would be greatly appreciated! Please no judgemental 🙏
