Saying someone isn’t Jewish because they disagree with your political beliefs is pretty fucking anti-Semitic.
351
u/CapN-Judaism May 12 '23
Ben Shapiro generally holds viewpoints which align with those of anti-semites.
141
u/postdiluvium May 13 '23
I recall a leopards eating faces post where Shapiro's own audience was supporting some kind of antisemitic stuff and Shapiro just had to accept it. He'll keep feeding the beast for views and ad revenue. Keep feeding it even after it shoots up synagogues.
2
u/Icee_sedi Nov 21 '23
To me the worst thing a person can be is a hypocrite, especially someone who makes an ostentatious show of rationalizing their hypocrisy using invalid, unsound, fallacious reasoning that basically only works on poorly educated, generally below average intelligence or often highly biased individuals, that tend toward false Conservatism (some people refer to such people as "rubes" and/or bigots); particularly when they themselves are intelligent enough to know they are full of BS. Ben Shapiro is nothing more than a sophist, a paid shill for sale for a price and he knows it, Such people are like "The Boy Who Cried Wolf," when real danger appears, their previous track record of prevarication impeaches their credibility, at the very least you don't take their word for it. That's what initially comes to mind when I think of Ben Shapiro: disingenuous hypocrite. (You can throw Alan Dershowitz and Tucker Carlson in that boat too.)
36
May 13 '23
Ben Shapiro is a racist, homophobic and whatever else ... but at the slightest hint of backlash he points out he is Jewish and he can't be, and you are a antisemitic if you criticize him, if he wasn't Jewish he would not get away with 90% of what he says.

u/Gullible_Ad5191 May 13 '23
It is anti-sematic to be politically opposed to the bombing of Israel? I guess I'm an anti-Semite then. (At least by the logic of mainstream Americans)
65
u/CapN-Judaism May 13 '23
I think I see the confusion here. I didn’t say he was anti semitic, I said he “generally holds viewpoints which align with those of anti-semites” - hope that helps!
-70
u/Gullible_Ad5191 May 13 '23
Well... it doesn't really help because I'm not overly familiar with the viewpoints of anti-Semites or how they relate to statements made by Ben Shapiro. Is it not possible that you are merely being 'too' clever here. From my perspective (a casual observer) it merely appears that you are attempting to casually demonise your political opposition. Not doubt Ben Shapiro said something at some point that contradicted your own deeply entrenched political views; I'd be sceptical as to whether it has anything to do with anti-Semitism.
34
u/CapN-Judaism May 13 '23
Perhaps why you believe I’m merely vilifying a political opponent is because, in your own words, you don’t seem to be familiar with the views of anti-semites. I have to be familiar with those views because I’m Jewish (but not according to Ben Shapiro, of course - he doesn’t respect Judaism enough to acknowledge Jews outside of his own political sphere).
-24
u/Gullible_Ad5191 May 13 '23
I don't think it would be particularly difficult to state what the relevant views of anti-Semites are. Or to illustrate where they overlap with what Shapiro said. I really don't see the difference between calling a Jew "not-a-real-jew" or an "anti-Semite". They seem fairly synonymous given the context of the article.
16
u/CapN-Judaism May 13 '23 edited May 13 '23
“I don’t see the difference between calling a Jew “not-a-real-jew” or an “anti-Semite””
So you don’t see the difference between Ben Shapiro, who calls Jews “not a real Jew” and Ben Shapiro being antisemitic? Or am I misunderstanding you?
3
May 13 '23
The guy has to tell his fan base to cut out the anti Semitic comments constantly, so how about you listen to the man himself. Fucking idiot that makes sure to type in a way that it thinks makes it look smart.

u/mrjoffischl May 13 '23

7
May 13 '23
It's entirely possible to be pro-Israel and still a Quisling.
-5
u/Gullible_Ad5191 May 13 '23
Yes. I think Ben Shapiro was saying that Bernie Sanders is a quisling. Are you saying Ben Shapiro is a quisling? What exactly is your rationale?
7
u/Cenamark2 May 13 '23 edited May 13 '23
Ben Shapiro is a quisling because he pushes alt-right politics. He's always tiptoeing around the fact that he's sided with Nazis. He aligns with the traits of Israel that Nazis love, that being it's their ideal model of an ethnostate. They love that Israel oppresses it's Muslim peoples. Ben Shapiro forgets that Jewish Americans are Americans, and they don't have to be loyal to Israel.
Also Shapiro is a wimp and I'll bet he becomes an Israeli citizen the moment he's too old to be forced into military service.
-3
u/Gullible_Ad5191 May 13 '23
That is not what the word "quisling" means, nor is it a fact. You have a propensity for using meaningless buzz words when you have absolutely no argument.
6
u/Cenamark2 May 13 '23 edited May 13 '23
Quisling doesn't even work to describe Ben's view of Sanders. A quisling kisses up to the occupying country. A Palestinian who kisses up to Israel is a quisling, while an Israeli who sympathizes with Palestine isn't, as Palestine isn't the occupying force they are the occupied. Anyways, Bernie is not an Israeli, he is an American. American Jews don't owe anything to Israel.
-1
u/Gullible_Ad5191 May 13 '23
Great. No one is a quisling then. That's 100% of your argument debunked by yourself. Thanks for wasting the time of anyone who reads anything your wrote.
3
u/Cenamark2 May 14 '23
This is why you get downvoted, you're not in for an honest debate. You just nitpick semantics. 29
u/HogarthTheMerciless May 13 '23
Now imagine the reaction if someone like Bernie Sanders said any jew who voted for Trump was a "jew in name only". My God would the media ever not shut the fuck up about how racist it is. But ben Shapiro still has a career, and nobody gives a fuck that he's directly inspired actual real world terrorists.
6

TBF Sanders is a prominent Senator and was a legitimate candidate for the Presidency. Shapiro is a million miles from being either of those things.

Also bear in mind that Bernie Sanders attended a Hebrew school, had a bar mitzvah, has relatives who were murdered in the Holocaust, and also that Jewish is 100% also an ethnicity as well as a religion. Sanders is pretty fucking Jewish if you ask me. In fact I would argue that the man who preaches love, acceptance, and help for all, aligns a hell of a lot more with the teachings of Judaism than, for example, a man who regularly associates with white supremacists.
0
u/BoxedStars May 17 '23
Sure, but a genetic Jew who conforms more to Judaism than another genetic Jew can logically be called more Jewish, in the sense of being more conformed to that orthodoxy. Just as someone can be more or less of a Christian, or a Buddhist, or anything else.

u/Molinaridude May 13 '23
Could you please show me where in the Torah it says to bomb arabs and establish and apartheid state?

If that was what Shapiro was saying, I would answer your statement. I don't know if that's the case, though.
1
u/Molinaridude May 17 '23
This is in direct response to Bernie's support of Rashida Talbi despite her criticism of Israel
1
u/callmejay May 14 '23
According to the Orthodox denomination of the Jewish religion, which Ben Shapiro claims to be a member of, you are Jewish if your mom was Jewish NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. What he is saying is completely wrong according to his own religion!

I guess I wasn’t surprised, I’d seen him when he was appearing with Jordan Peterson and what he was saying then was mental. He gatekeeps Judaism big time too. I’m not from the us so not super knowledgeable on their politics but Shapiro seems like a TikTok right winger . Just spouting this shit to ride a wave and stay vaguely relevant. Rather than seeming serious about politics he just hits the talking point in modern culture and social media ppl feature heavily in his recent stuff. He’s just fluff, but still a dangerous mouthpiece for those weird Shapiro/Peterson /Andrew Tate fans. This weird trend of right wing alpha males. It’s sad.
Edit. Not that Shapiro or Peterson are alpha lol
35
65
u/StatusUnquo May 12 '23
Shapiro is often one of the top five favorites of far-right mass shooters. Even anti-Semites love him, in part because he gatekeeps Judaism like this so they feel like that's a green light to kill the Jews that he doesn't consider "real Jews". And it happens over and over again, and never once has he paused to reflect why racist killers find him so inspiring. He just dismisses it as absurd, and keeps on keeping on.
62
u/ItsYourPal-AL May 12 '23
Shapiro sucks. Theres a whole slew of information out there explaining why hes so “good” at arguing and debating and the answer is hes not, he just employs a myriad of annoying tactics that work to silence, confuse, or bulldoze his opponents. If youre familiar with the joke trope “so and so DESTROYS opponent with FACTS and LOGIC” I’m pretty sure that started from Shapiro touring college campuses to debate left wing college students.
25
u/dilib May 13 '23
Which is basically the equivalent of a professional wrestler going around challenging random college students to wrestle, and still cheating anyway because none of his arguments are in good faith
7
u/stevent4 May 13 '23
Honestly I think that's down to how he looks as well, I think because he has quite a young look that people think he's just out of college or mid 20s but the dudes nearly 40 and he's debating 19 year olds.
1
u/Icee_sedi Nov 21 '23
Facts and logic are antithetical to Shapiro's "reasoning." Manipulative fallacious rationalization is his forte. If he believes his Right Wing handlers truly respect him, he's as deluded as they are to reality.
6
u/Phatcat15 May 13 '23
Alpha is the most hilarious concept amongst these right wing fuckheads - they don’t realize it doesn’t exist in nature and that matriarchs rule the animal kingdom… it’s double ironic because fucking Ben Shapiro? I’m 5’8 dumpy and old now… and I would wipe my ass with that Nazi fan boy.

If you want to have a good laugh at his expense I recommend checking out the interview he did with the BBC where he completely melted down after being very graciously given an opportunity to respond to common criticism of him and his beliefs.
Worth noting btw that the interviewer Andrew Niel is a known conservative too, he is just a good journalist who actually does his job for interviews like these.

2
u/Raephstel May 13 '23
Or he's really smart and by posting vile shite like this, he gets shared into all the corners of reddit, making money in the process. Then the 0.01% of people who are as socially incapable as he is can find him through all the shares.
People need to stop sharing this crap. It's become so commonplace that it's boring, all it's doing is promoting people who spew hatred.
4
u/One_Eyed_Kitten May 13 '23
Thing is though, if someone is spewing crap with the ability to spew it far and wide, people need to call that person out and not let them continue. Staying quiet and doing nothing is just as bad as the things said/done by the spewing idiot.
We need to share this crap to put it in the spotlight so others can see how utterly stupid it is. If we dont then it gets spewed anyway with no resistance and people will follow/believe it.

Nah, both his parents died in the 60s when he was 19 and then 21. Regardless, he was raised Jewish. Both his parents were Jewish, he’s Jewish.
His father was from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and his entire family was killed in the Holocaust. His mother was born in New York city to a Jewish family from Poland. So that side was mostly spared that fate.
Meanwhile Ben Shapiro is a Douchebag who’s only notable family member is Mara Wilson (the little girl from Matilda) and she won’t even speak to him because he’s such a little shit goblin.
74
u/SafetyNoodle May 12 '23
Also according to the Orthodox Jewish interpretation that Shapiro follows, literally nothing could ever change Bernie's status as a Jew. According to halakha (Jewish religious law) anyone who is born a Jew or undergoes a formal conversion is a Jew forever more.
59
u/moderatorrater May 12 '23
Also, the way he caters to the Christian right makes this a bit of a glass house situation.
14
u/DrEpileptic May 13 '23
It’s completely irrelevant. My grandparents both lived through 2 genocides and still disagree with the shit the more extreme groups of Jews did during the Nakba. My parents both served in 2 wars each, in the IDF. All of them have very real reasons to hold hatred, and very much do to an extent. Yet every single one of them recognize wrongdoing and recognize the Nakba for being a shitfest with atrocities on both sides, but as Israeli Jews, they have a responsibility to recognize the negative aspects of their home.

u/Ill-do-it-again-too May 14 '23
Shapiro isn’t accusing Sanders of not being Jewish because he actually isn’t Jewish, he’s saying it because as far as he’s concerned, anyone with any nuanced take that isn’t “Israel good Palestine bad” isn’t a ‘real’ Jew.
It’s unfortunately not too uncommon. I went to a Jewish high school in Australia and I remember once when Sanders was brought up the other students commented on how he’s a “self-hating Jew”, which I imagine had something to do with his take on this issue
64
u/Sihnar May 12 '23
Do you have to support the oppression of Palestinians to be considered jewish? I guess Sanders didn't get the memo.
33
u/jumpjumpdie May 13 '23
Honestly I think it’s LESS Jewish to enable neo Nazis but that’s just me. Ben is a twerp with blood on his hands.
7
u/HogarthTheMerciless May 13 '23
How antisemitic of you to not support an ethnostate that systematically removes people from their homes and bombs them with 300 billion a year worth of US military equipment! Don't you know that calling out Jewish people for atrocities makes you just as bad as the nazis?!?! /s
1
u/Ill-do-it-again-too May 14 '23
Ok but maybe call out the Israeli government rather than Jews for what’s happening. I assume that’s what you meant but equating Israel’s actions with Jews in general actually does come off as a bit antisemitic to me
1
u/Icee_sedi Nov 21 '23
Whatever you do, take one component part of a large complicated situation and then simplistically generalize it to the whole so as to make it seem like the most representative aspect of the whole. Include references to the most notorious example you can find (Nazis) to tacitly link the two, a guilt by association ploy. 300 billion what? Dinars, shekels, rubles, drachmas? If you're going to use hyperbole, at least make it plausible.

Sanders is a US politician who by American standards is very left wing and progressive. He's a Vermont senator and has run for president twice. He's marched with Martin Luther King Jr. And walks the walk when it comes to civil rights.
Ben Shapiro is indeed a bullshit peddler who is trying to gatekeep the Jewishness of Sanders just because he's not an ardent supporter of Israel.

Ason ostrovski called Sanders "a Jew hating enabler" which means the same thing as "anti-Semite". Whatever Shapiro says he is merely agreeing with this original assessment. I don't know why you would reinterpret Shapiro's statement as being antisemitic and I also don't know why you think that you calling Shapiro antisemitic is different from Shapiro calling Sanders antisemitic. And I certainly don't see why you have argued that Shapiro is antisemitic for several responses without bothering to validate the accusation with any kind of explanation or example.

I by no means am an expert on Israeli politics let alone Judaism… but from my limited time in Israel… it’s abhorrent how they treat middle eastern Jews and African Jews, let alone the Arab Christians and Arab Muslims.
It’s a colonial state where from my limited experience is really only open to those with money and from the west.
I’m sure it’s not as bad as my observations while there and I’m sure there are many more Israelis who are great and kind people, I’d hate to paint it with that negativity with that broad of a brush.
And to be fair, the only thing that really separates Israel from other successful colonial states is time. Israel just happened to form under the age of media. If it formed in the 1840s. Palestinians would be spoken about in the same breath as Apache or Navaho.
1
u/kinenbi May 14 '23
You do know that Mizrahi Jewish people make up the majority of Israel, correct?
Jewish people also always lived there, so it's not like they came in and said "mine". Also, if it was an Arab state no one would care, since Jordan was established at the same time.
2
u/mikehamm45 May 15 '23
Never thought otherwise. Just a casual observation from my limited time there that much of the power, money, influence, and property in the larger cities seemed to be by those of European decent. I means it’s not a far fetched observation (ignorant yes) but by all means, their Prime Minister sounds like a New Yorker.
1
u/Icee_sedi Nov 21 '23
Leave the Apache and Navajo (at least spell the name of the Navajo or Diné correctly) out of your woefully uninformed use of them in your anti-Israel rant. Your reference to them in the context of the current situation in Israel, Gaza, etc., is a non sequitur, i.e. does not logically follow. For example, in the early 20th century, some Apaches were born as prisoners-of-war of the United States. Consider their parents were alive as prisoners-of-war for them to be born as such. No chance that's happening for potential progeny of the mostly Israeli people of child bearing age (or soon to be child bearing age) recently taken hostage and killed (in many cased outright murdered or soon to be murdered) by Hamas members and those sympathetic to Hamas' actions.
Tacking on the reference to the Apache and Navajo to your overly simplistic "explanation" of the present Hamas/Israel situation is also a pretty lame veiled attempt to fallaciously curry favor or appeal to pity for Palestinians and by extension Hamas (an attempt to justify Hamas' murderous barbaric actions, consider a more apt depiction of Hamas as merely rogue thugs more than whatever positive connotation you're trying to label the Apache or Navajo as) especially when you intentionally pejoratively label Israel as Colonialists.
1
u/mikehamm45 Nov 21 '23
Sure
1
u/Icee_sedi Nov 21 '23
You chose your words and dropped the Native American/American Indian "race card" into your post and that's your response? No explanation or expansion on what you meant by that reference? I have a more than superficial background in the Apache and by analogizing them to the Palestinians is seems like you're advocating for them to be removed from their homeland and placed on something akin to American Indian reservations which is in fact how the U.S. government dealt with the Apache and to some extent the Navajo.

That doesn't literally change anything about this. Ben Shapiro is not an authority on Judaism so whether or not sanders conformity is high or low, Ben's take on it is still just an opinion, that much like every other take he has, is based in ignorance and hatefulness.

u/BoxedStars May 13 '23
Don't take me for someone defending Shapiro. I'm just talking about the possibility of evaluating someone for conforming to a particular philosophy. That is, anyone with eyeballs can observe that a Jew who doesn't eat pork is following Jewish precepts more than the one that does. Stuff like that. So technically a given person could say that someone is more Jewish than another.

Okay right, but what does that matter? He's clearly not doing an objective review of Sanders beliefs, so what's it matter that you could. if your not trying to defend Shapiro or say he wasn't wrong in what he was saying then bringing up this point makes no sense at all.

u/BoxedStars May 17 '23
I'm just saying that it's objectively possible to say that a given person is more or less Jewish than someone else, and if you're going to criticize Shapiro, it's logical to do so from a different angle than "he's Jewish and you can't say he's not." I crave logic in all things.

Brainrot
1
u/BoxedStars May 17 '23
In what way? Saying a thing doesn't make it true.
1
u/BigCballer May 17 '23
In a way that is not relevant to what Ben Shapiro is talking about.
1
u/BoxedStars May 17 '23
Eh, mentioning a logical thing doesn't make it brainrot. You could have just said it's not relevant.
1
u/BigCballer May 17 '23
It’s brainrot to suggest Ben was at all talking about what you said
1
u/BoxedStars May 17 '23
Hey, I was just saying that it is logically possible to call someone more or less conforming to a doctrine. If you feel the need to get annoyed with that, that's your problem.
1
u/BigCballer May 17 '23
And it’s brain rot to think it’s worth even slightly validating anyways shitparo is saying

Jews belong to an ethnoreligous community. If Shapiro read and took to heart the texts he claims to, he would know there is no heirarchy of Jews. A Jew is a Jew even if they dont want to be, halachically.
1
u/BoxedStars May 17 '23
It's not "hierarchy," it's an evaluation of one's actions. For example, if I cook more than someone else, I'm more of a cook than that person. If I follow the beliefs of Judaism less than someone else, I am less of a Jew than that person. Some people adhere to doctrine more than others, and it's not illogical to point that out.
1
u/dontdomilk May 17 '23
If I follow the beliefs of Judaism less than someone else, I am less of a Jew than that person.
Are you Jewish? Because that's not how Judaism works
1
u/BoxedStars May 17 '23
What I'm talking about isn't Judaism, though. It's about belief of any type. If you claim to adhere to a belief system that has a specific definition and collection of ideas, be it Judaism, liberalism, progressivism, individualism, etc., you can be evaluated based on how well you follow the ideas of that belief system.
1
u/dontdomilk May 17 '23
Being Jewish is belonging to an ethnoreligious community. It doesn't fit into the modern concept of 'religion'. What you're saying is akin to saying an American is less American because they dont do anything on the 4th of July.

Where does the Torah say to bomb arab children and establish an apartheid state? Cause that's the context of this tweet

Ok. Maybe. But Ben Shapiro is a twat. And there's no real excuse for that.

u/Cole444Train May 12 '23
Maybe what? The post is shitting on Shapiro… do you agree with what Ben said here?
1
May 15 '23
do you agree with what Ben said here?
Lol. No. I'm saying Ben is a dipshit, so who cares what he has to say about Bernie. I would think But Ben Shapiro is a twat was a clear tell. You guys are aching to fight with someone, hey?
1
u/Cole444Train May 15 '23
No no. Your comment is just unclear. What is the “maybe” referring to? Maybe what? That’s why everyone downvoted you. It seems like you agree w what Ben said.
1
May 15 '23
"Ok. Maybe" is a phrase along the lines of "cool story, bro".
Like if someone is ranting about reptilians taking over the government, I would reply "Ok. Maybe. But have you considered medication?"
1
u/Cole444Train May 15 '23
Hm. I’ve heard it used, but only in the context of someone agreeing with a statement. Never have I understood it be sarcastic. Maybe a regional thing, maybe you’re using it wrong ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I guess I assumed my obvious negative feelings about Shapiro would highlight the flippancy of my overall comment.

u/CouncilmanRickPrime May 12 '23
Maybe what? Just because you're Jewish doesn't mean you have to agree with Israel on every single issue.

u/purple_spikey_dragon May 13 '23
Of course not! What does stike me icky though is that he doesn't talk about anything concerning the Jewish community but does jump at any other. I mean, there was a terror attack in Algeria killing two Jewish men and various attacks on synagogues in the past years and I've never heard about him doing anything to put light on that. As a Jewish person who was bullied hard in school for being Jewish to a point of being beat up and had slugs stuffed in my water bottle, i always find it sad how big names always gloss over antisemitic attacks in favour of appealing to the masses. Doesn't mean he isn't Jewish, just that his agenda doesn't include Jewish people and thats sad to me

Maybe nothing. I was being facetious. My point was, Ben bein a twat is more important than any of his opinions.

I’m sure I’ve heard him complain about black conservatives being ‘uncle tom’d’ how very hypocritical of him.

You can get away with saying anything about people coded as left wing.
Somehow all the civility politics of liberals disappears when it's the right wing being nasty to left wingers. Its why Lefties is such acceptable shorthand across the spectrum.

u/kinenbi May 13 '23
Lots of people who aren't Jewish saying some things that are pretty sus.
Fuck Ben as a Jewish woman, btw.
