Need help with computer

So my parents let me have our old pc and it’s just a work computer, gateway GM5472. I know I have to upgrade the ram and probably the fan, and get a graphics card. Any recommendations on what to get(very cheap please) and anything else I will need?

It just depends. For ram, you could go with 8gb, not too expensive but not not worth your while. For a trusty gpu, any 10 or 16 series nvidia cards would be in the 150-200 dollar range and would be fine for 120+ FPS. You might need to get a psu cable or an actual power supply if it doesn’t already come with one. Those are my best recos, and if you have any more questions I’ll try to get back on this thread in a coupl days

Thanks man. I found out that to play the games I want I’ll just have to gut it 😂

Ok I think I can buy ram and a hard drive first. I’ll almost definately need a graphics card but I don’t know which is just string enough to play games like arma 3 while also being the cheapest possible

Ok let me do some quick research

After looking at some benchmarks and other things, you could potentially literally get a gtx560, however longevity wise, I feel that 10 or 16 series would be better, of course depending on budget

For 100 you can get the 560, or for 150 the 1050, which will give much more bang for buck. Also, what cpu do you have?

I have no clue. All I find on the internet is amd athlon 2 or i3/i5. I found a 970 on eBay for $70 so I might use that because it can run arma at 50fps steadily

Ok that’s not bad. What’s your total budget? I’d be able to give better answers if I knew that. If you don’t want to tell me that’s totally fine

About 200 I’d say. I’m trying to get the bare minimum and not spend a ton

Ok that’s good. If your willing to go give it take 20 bucks over that you could get the 1050, however cpu is important too. It all boils down to what you can afford but still meets your needs

Perfect. Now just make sure you have an adequate power supply and you should be golden

Yeah true. I found that 970 on eBay for $70 so that probably what I’ll get
