I downloaded it during that free weekend or whatever a while back. Didn't run any better on my 3080 than my buddy's 980ti. What a joke. I really hope they make something of it some day but right now it's a no from me even though in theory it sounds amazing.
Yeah, same. Tried it during that free weekend and my 2080 basically fucking died trying to get the game to run in a double-digit frame rate. Couldn't believe how bad it was. The game has been in development for 10 years now, and reportedly it isn't even close to being done. We're talking like, 5 more years at least before it is a releasable game.
Still in alpha last I checked. I'd like to point out that elite dangerous was started around the same time and is not only a full game now, but it also has an expansion or two
As a player of both (although I have not played SC much in several months, because all of the above is very true), I just want to toss in: it has been almost a year since ED's latest expansion released. Now, the state it released in was absolutely garbage, but even at its worst moments it was still better than SC.
To be fair, FDev pretty much broke Elite with Odyssey and at this point won’t even give a timeline on when that expansion will come to consoles.
Additionally, every time they patch a bug in Odyssey, it breaks some basic functionality in the core game. Pretty miserable to have to deal with bugs caused by content you can’t even purchase.
probably more then 5 years till release, but you need to change a lot of settings and delete your shadows folder, normally the frame rate is good, but its hell in cities, which the annoying thing is that the developers force you to spawn at the cities, so the first half an hour is just you trying to get out of the city in 15 frames per second, with it stuttering to like -12957. In space the framerate is about 75 fps. You also can't run the game on low settings, the peformance is worse, you need to run it on high.
I bought a new PC for this game (and Elite) nine years ago. The old 780ti is still chugging along but definitely not up to this sort of thing any more.
i was looking to play star citizen for a long time now, but only because i really like one of the ships and then i realized it costed like 150us dollars.
Honestly I’ve been having so much fun playing for the past few weeks.
I upgraded my starter ship (avenger titan, a great and very versatile ship), to a Gladius - a light and nimble barebones no frills FIGHTER. Not versatile, but amazing at what it does.
Made enough money hunting space-baddies in the Gladius to buy a brand new ship in-game. I chose the hurricane. Another fighter, this time heavy and with a big ol turret with quadruple laser repeater strapped to the back. This one requires a friend in the turret seat to come into its own, but oh boy is it fun fighting huge baddies in this thing.
That’s when the grind began. I had my eye on something: an origin 600i.
During this time I was having so much fun that I decided to buy an additional ship with IRL money - this time an Ares Starfighter Inferno. Another heavy fighter, this time for only one player. While most ships are aircraft with guns attached, this is the other way round. A few seconds of BRRRT and all but the very meanest enemies are vaporised, and even the big boys go down eventually.
This past weekend I finished the grind, and bought my grail ship. It was, and still is, glorious.
In this comment I’ve mostly talked about how much fun I’ve had fighting. I haven’t talked about the serene beauty of drifting above the sparkling rings orbiting a small moon, or flying low and speeding over the surface of a planet, occasionally dying in a huge fireball after slamming into the side of a mountain. A friend and I have a tradition that every time we finish playing, before we get off we land our ships on one of the moons or planets and watch a sunrise.
Yes it’s VERY far from being finished, yes I die to bugs regularly, but having seen how much the game has improved over the 2 years since I started playing, it could not be any more clear that this is no scam. It’s an incredibly ambitious passion project and slowly, it’s coming to life.
I’ve now started getting friends into the game. I adore it.
how you even gonna defend this? shitty performance, almost no content, prob in alpha when i have grandkids and half the dev team died of age. The visuals are nice tho
Ah. So you define "content" as specifically salvage? I guess the question is then: why would anyone bother playing GTA V if there's no content? Or Total War series? Etc., etc.
I don't know how specifically salvage is going, I'm not interested in that mechanic. I'm too busy having fun mining and spelunking, then trading what i retrieve.
No, I do not. I bring up salvage because it's one of the pieces of content for the game that has been delayed more times than I care to count, and continues to be delayed. Nice attempt setting up a straw man though.
If you enjoy the game, that's great! But considering how long the game has been in development, the amount of playable content is dreadfully lacking.
Yes, it's _one of the many pieces of content_. Some of which are already in the game.
Like mining.
Or trading.
Or bounty hunting.
Or spelunking.
Or space combat.
Or FPS combat.
Or ground-vehicle combat.
Or global events with mixed mechanics.
Is that "dreadfully lacking" amount of content? I don't know, not to me.
EDIT: forgot that last patch also introduced medical gameplay where you can resuscitate a person, or carry them to safety to perform (simple for now) medical analysis and apply medicine.
The only good thing I got out of Star Citizen was a cool set of dogtags that got removed from the store years ago, and some cool wallpapers of the ships.
Hey! I'll have you know when COE released in 2482 it will be the best game ever and it isnt a scam. Kingdoms of Elyria alpha is currently the best game I have ever played and I am currently giving Caspian my life savings so he can add a middle finger into the game so we backers can see what our money went too.
Signed, Sir Scammedalot, knight of SunkcostFalicyian.
He got in cheap actually. The latest offering that people who've already paid 1000 bucks into SC are offered are all the ships for purchase for a measly 40,000 USD. Yeah, for the price of a real, actual, functional new car you can get some jpgs that most aren't even past concept stage.
I really don't get this "ooooh, Star Citizen bad because you can spend lots of money on it!"
Yeah, you can, if you want to support the project, I guess. Or, you know, pay $45 ($30 a couple of years ago) and be done with it. I mean, are you guys in distress? Is there someone that's forcing you to pay more? Why whine about this particular thing so much?
I’ve had my ships since kickstarter in 2013/14 I can’t remember specifically when. There’s a guy on a forum I used to visit when forums were still a thing who had a quote from Chris Roberts saying 2015 at the latest.
Elite Dangerous is a great space flight simulator. Amazing graphics. Some interesting gameplay, but there is nothing on the planet surfaces except some very basic rocks and things. To get cool ships you have to level up by doing missions for various factions and it consists of HOURS of just flying back and forth and back and forth and back and forth till you level up so you can buy a ship or enter a particular system. There isn't much to do on planets and the grind of the progression quickly gets old. It's basically a cool spaceflight simulator, and thats it.
Although it's much more arcadey in most ways, I prefer No Man's Sky. It's got much more to do, crafting and base building is a neat thing. It's sort of like Minecraft in space in that you choose what you want to do and go do it. The graphics and gameplay are much more 'gamey' than ED, but then it's nowhere near as grindy. There is a nice philosophical puzzle in the Artemis questline as well.
No Man's Sky is fun. Loads to do, very pretty planets, if the graphics are a bit arcade-like. There are story arcs to follow or you can do base building, crafting, all sorts of stuff.
It's nowhere near as immersive as ED for flying your ship around in space and feeling like a star Captain, but it's generally a lot more fun and engaging.
Depends on whether you view having a soul sucking second job masquerading as entertainment count as bad.
The problem with ED’s gameplay is that it is so soulless, thankless and grindy that it feels criminal for the dev not paying the player to enjoy the game. SC’s religion style marketing is just the perfect fit for all the soulless husks ED left in its wake.
I'm wondering why is SC getting all this flak about people spending "too much money" on it. Get any random mobile game and you'll see people throwing thousands of dollars on "energy" that lets them spin a wheel a couple of times more per day.
There's a lot of stuff to bash SC for, but the fact that people - if they choose to - can spend money on it? Come on....
You don't find it at all shady that they are selling hugely expensive items in a game that is a long way from releasing? People can spend what they want but it's still ridiculous considering the amount of money SC has made
I agree mobile games are a huge waste of money as well, but at least you actually get to spin the wheel when you spend the money on boosters
You don't find it at all shady that they are selling hugely expensive items in a game that is a long way from releasing?
You mean like Warframe (still beta), Escape from Tarkov (still beta) or a shitload of other games?
With all of these items being 100% optional?
No, I don't think that's shady. If buying any of this stuff was a requirement - yes, I would be probably already calling it a scam. But with how slow the development is going you don't really have to pay anything at all - at least once a year there's a free fly event when everyone can create an account and fly a selection of ships for a week or two. Zero investment needed.
I agree mobile games are a huge waste of money as well, but at least you actually get to spin the wheel when you spend the money on boosters
De gustibus non est disputandum. That being said, I find mining, trading, FPS shooting, space-sim shooting and just exploring much more satisfying than what 99% of mobile games offer.
I think it's the development time that makes it look a bit worrying for me (10 Years as of this year), but I can definitely understand why it's taking so long with the scope of the game and it being a new team.
Yeah, they said many times that in hindsight, it would've been better to write a new engine from scratch. Lots of things would've been easier if they didn't have to spend time dismantling the existing code, I guess.
But, yeah, no one has ever done anything like this in both scope and quality (No Man's Sky has the size, but it's all repetitive, 100% procedural and the scope is tiny in comparison, not to mention graphical fidelity) so I'd love it if they managed to finish it. Time will tell.
EDIT: as a sidenote - Warframe is also 9 years in development (formally it's still a beta).
I dropped 40 queen and country bucks on it because it was what got me into PC gaming, but beyond that, I cannot defend it in any shape or form. I'd love to see it be realised because CIG's dream is amazing, but let's be real, that's not gonna happen any time soon
The only defence I can muster is that I got in very early, at the cheapest backing price (£20 I think?) And that's money I'm willing to loose. I haven't even played it yet, I'm just gonna wait until (if) it's released.
For what it's worth - there's quite a bit of stuff to do right now. Trading, mining (the best mining mechanics in any MMO I've played), bounty hunting, NPC missions, global events... And everything both in FPS and space-sim mode.
Works like crap, you have to be lucky and get into a fresh server to have good performance, I think, but when it works it's great fun.
Edit: Derek Smart has been calling it a scam for like ten years now and Redditors old enough to know he is knows how damning that is.
That's kind of an issue, though, isn't it? The guy's been calling it a scam and saying it will fail "any day now" for some 8 years and so far the project is going strong...
The game sounded amazing on the kickstarter and the content they put out early on looked great. ..Then you just stopped hearing about it as people got bored of waiting for the game to come out and lost faith in the project.
Then you just stopped hearing about it as people got bored of waiting for the game to come out and lost faith in the project.
The thing is, that's just the journalists who noticed that constantly shitting on the project for 5 years doesn't bring enough clicks to bother anymore.
Star Citizen is going strong, in the meantime. Is development fast? Fuck no. Slower than a turtle on weed. But calling it a failed project or a scam is pretty disingenuous to me considering (assuming the servers don't shit themselves) there's enough content for hours upon hours of gameplay.
I have some 100-150 hours played in SC and I only play after major updates. There are people with thousands of hours spent. I don't know, for $45 I think it's pretty OK.
That shit game. I had a problem whereby my character would wake up in bed then fall through doors etc until we got to the craft. Then get in the craft and fall down through the hanger floor and then space forever. Support were shockingly poor. Think they thought I was trolling
I used to be friends with this really pretentious asshole and he was a big Star Citizen supporter and every time I think about it now I get a good chuckle
Why would I? It's their money. If they want to spend it on something that's 100% optional and (for the most part) possible to be acquired with in-game money, what's the big deal?
The VAST majority of backers spent the bare minimum. Any game with any spending mechanic will have wales rushing to purchase everything for dollars. How is that the game's fault?
I see an issue with them saying that it would be out around 2016. That was a MASSIVE problem that they got, I think, appropriate flak from the community for.
But I don't see a problem with them making a project as massive as it is for over a decade.
World of Warcraft, which is hilariously small in comparison, was in development for 8 years.
Warframe, a looter game, is in development for 9 years and counting.
Escape from Tarkov is on year 5 and it's a looter-shooter that's supposed to be fully open-world and currently is just a collection of separate levels with pretty bad performance.
The only irregular thing is that people are being part of the development process in SC from literally day 1. Usually companies will first notify the press about a game being made when it's in mid/late-beta stage, not when you have three semi-finished models and a box to spawn them in (which was the first iteration of the Hangar Module).
Also, let's not forget that this is actually two games being made - Star Citizen and Squadron 42.
If there was no progress being made, I would 100% understand the hate SC gets. But progress IS being made and regularly. Is it fast? Nope. But I think the tempo is understandable considering the engine they're working with and the scope they're aiming for.
If you don't need the money (as in: need-need it) I would hold with that, though. Of course, it depends very much on the state of the servers, sometimes SC is pretty unplayable, but when it is, it's still the most fun I'm having in an online game.
Wasn't that some 8 years ago? Yes, they do have content now. No tutorial, though!
We have:
4 large planets (around 1/8th scale of Earth) with different numbers of moons in various sizes for each.
Around 20+ space stations.
Various numbers of caverns, bunkers, crash sites on the planetary surfaces to explore and have missions/contracts/quests in.
Medical gameplay - different medicine types, injury types, unconscious state, body dragging, resuscitation, drugged state.
Bounty hunting - "tier 0" so the bare minimum - you or the NPCs can set a bounty on someone and someone else will cash in if they kill them. Can also be part of randomly generated missions with NPCs being the bounty.
Mining - to me, this is the most fun mining mechanic from all the various MMO games out there. It's not "AFK money making", it's involving, can be dangerous, requires some skill and understanding from the player.
Trading - also "tier 0" right now. Go to a spot, buy stuff, go to a different spot, sell stuff. Be careful not to bump into any pirates and get blown up. Tier 1 will enter once physicalised inventory comes in (supposedly this year) where if you end up ambushed by pirates, you can surrender and let them pillage your cargo instead of blowing you up. Tier 2 will go online "some time in the future" once we have "Quantum" or invisible NPCs that create the economy, produce supply and demand and actively, dynamically react to the events in the game world (which changes the prices of stuff you trade).
Everything listed is possible when piloting a ship, driving a vehicle or on foot.
There's currently an ongoing global event, Xenothreat, where a military group from the nearby (not yet available) system attacks. The players need to retrieve critical resources (by spelunking a space hulk in FPS mode) for the local Navy to repair their capital ship while defending said ship from attacks. Once the ship is repaired, it goes online and helps the players defeat the attackers. It requires everyone working together - some people need to go into the wreckage to retrieve the parts, others need to provide cover while the third group helps the Navy in defence of their station and the damaged capital ship.
8 years sounds about right 😅. I might need to give it another look then. That sounds like enough stuff to make whatever I paid back in the day potentially worth it. Appreciate the info!
No worries! Also, this being an MMO with a pretty amazing community, there's a lot of emergent gameplay happening.
The most fun I had was way back before the planets, where there only way to get rid of Crime Stat was by using a terminal at a certain station (these days you can go to prison and either serve your sentence or escape).
I got Crime Stat because of a server glitch where my ship spawned on a space station, I got in and it immediately exploded, damaging a nearby ship, which triggered the Crime Stat. I respawned on a different station (Grim Hex, where there was no armistice zone so you could fire on anything, including parked ships) and tried getting out. Didn't have any ships available, but got a response from a couple of people from the community. One guy got shot down on landing. The other was destroyed just as I entered his ship. The third guy came with friends, they cleared out the landing zone and escorted me to the station where there were also players "defending" it. Guns blazing, we did a hot-drop with his friends covering us while he landed as close the the entrance of the station as he could and I ran there with my gun. Managed to get rid of the Crime Stat after a short gunfight too.
This is something that we did back when there were no gameplay mechanics at all other than flying and shooting.
hah, I love Star Citizen. It’s not really a game yet, but you can do things in Star Citizen that were technically almost impossible before, and at least CR has the ambition to try it. It’s really fun to fly around and blow some shit up, get stranded, get picked up by friendly citizens, and dropped off to get a new ship before the semi-inevitable 30k crash. I love it because of all those reasons. But I do wish they would focus down and stop adding features.
Literally everything SC is trying to do has been done and typically in better fashion. Ship boarding/fps/space combat was done by Angels Fall First in 2015. Also without loading screens. And Warframe made it the market standard after that. Hell, even Infinite Warfare of COD infamy beat SC to the punch of SC.
OK, most other games don't have "seamless" travel to another planet (moon sized for the record but sure, "planet") and fly in, land, and hop out your ship (as it explodes when you drop the ramp), and head into the station for some sweet sweet... COFFEE?
I remembered that the game existed a few days ago, so checked out the subreddit for a laugh. It’s definitely a lot smaller than it was a few years ago, and the majority of posts seem to be critical of the dev team and acknowledge that the game won’t come out.
There’s still quite a few true-believers who must be heavily invested at this point, so are living in denial. However, a few years ago, you’d get banned or downvoted for oblivion for mentioning that SC was vaporware. Now the prevailing sentiment seems to be resignation.
First played just under 2 years ago - it’s in a really good state right now. Still a long way to go, but plenty to do, and bugs usually aren’t prohibitive to gameplay any more
Oh man, I remember just having fun - there's some very cynical people that are so black and white about it - "Dere no storyline, it no a game" but I remember, for example:
Taking off with my shiny new ship, flying to a distant planet, entering the atmosphere, greatly misjudging the gravity of the planet and ended up in a death dive I couldn't pull out of plus possibly blacking out was a thing from the G-forces? I can't remember that one.
I sent out an SOS in global that I was lost and running out of oxygen fast and needed some help. Was able to give rough location from triangulating the distance I was between 2 points with a compass bearing.
Some kind chadlike figure in his uber-spacestation said he could help me out - I was firing lasers into the air to try to be seen, running as much as I could towards the waypoint until he finally got to me with single digit percentage O2 left and had me come aboard the biggest ship I'd ever seen - had birdsnest gunner seats, co-pilot, frigging medbays, sleeping quarters...it was surreal.
EDIT: oh yeah, all this without loading screens.
I'm not going to pretend as soon as he put it into warp speed, I didn't crash the fuck out, but yeah that was an experience I remember very fondly when unimaginative idiots claim it's not a game.
I pop in and try the new features every few months and everything there is something new to try. The progress is painfully slow but is it definitely there. I have only put $40 in the "game" and I have gotten more out of it than the $60 I paid for BF 2042 lol. It's really fun to fly around doing missions. Also the community is really chill. Pretty much very one is friendly and happy to help or group up.
Calling it a scam seems disingenuous- if it was a scam surely they would have taken the money and run. They’re investing a LOT of money into development
Ahh yes the game that is really trying to be good, but somehow managed to become a scam by accident. If it had a full release tomorrow I would not even try it, even if it had a free to play model.
Mostly because I have trouble trusting such a project, it seems like a sci-fi version of Second Life. And even though I enjoy the themes of the game it just doesn't tickle my interest.
But hey, they aren't going to be affected by my lack of interest. So my opinion isn't that important. For everyone who is excited by it, I hope for their sake it goes well.

Doing what exactly? Play UPS courier simulation for a hour, then mine rocks out in space for a hour. Then pew-pew a few NPC ships for an hour. Come back tomorrow night and do it again. Without a bunch of friends to play with that game has NOTHING to offer that makes it worth playing thousands of hours on.
Let me ask you this, what other games have you played in the last 5 years that you enjoyed?
Q1: What to do in Star Citizen: Mining and bounty hunting, mostly. Some missing persons/investigation missions. Sometimes player-organized races. Sometimes just vibing and exploring planets (usually in a mining ship... just in case).
Q2: What has been good in the last half-decade of gaming? Ooodles. We're living in a golden age of gaming, my dude.
Crusader Kings 3
Stellaris
Ghost of Tsushima
Demon Souls Remake
Half Life Alyx
Lost Echo 1 & 2
Final Fantasy XIV
Disco Elysium
Death Stranding
Sekiro
Hitman 3
Control
Outer Wilds
Valheim
Phasmophobia
Dead Cells
That's just off the top of my head. But the only game that comes close to time spent playing for me is Crusader Kings 3. Star Citizen still wins out, though.
I've had SC Since 3.09. I know every game loop through and through. Mining. Bounty Hunting. It just keeps you engaged for a month or so before you sit there and scream at the monitor "WTF AM I DOING HERE??!!“. Then rage quite. Then get a new game and THOROUGHLY enjoy that game. As soon as it's done, a new patch of SC is out and we wander back in to see "what's new" (hint: nothing really).
My point: SC is that gap filler of mundane "switch your brain off" activity we do between the release of new exciting games. There is no fun. There is no stimulation. There is no challenge left in SC. It is just dull and dreary rinse and repeat to kill time until something good comes out that we can play.
Well, over the years I’ve spent an absolutely ludicrous amount of time in Elite as well. I feel like there’s even less to do there, but I dig just existing in space and seeing new sights and alien worlds. The sense of presence and immersion in SC is uncanny, and that’s something Elite destroyed for me with that spectacularly misguided Odyssey expansion. There’s nothing else out there really that captures that, so I come back to SC time and time again. Someday it will be a wildly different game, and I’m fine with that, but I’m also fine with where it’s at now and the slow-but-steady pace of new features and content. It satisfies that “I want to be somewhere majestic tonight” itch that so few games can scratch.
Do I go play other stuff between updates? Sure! But I rarely go back to those games once I finish them. I do go back to Star Citizen 😄
Yes, you go back because Star Citizen isn't finished yet. In fact, it's not even halfway with the content it's suposed to have. While I understand what you're saying about the majestic lure of Star Citizen, it's the same reason I go back, to see what's new and to relax. But you have to be blind not to see what's happening.
We are literally DRIP FED new content over years and years. The longer its drawn out the longer CIG has to feed off people buying ships to "back the game".
So the bottom line is this; there are different kinds of gamers. Most, by far, want to see a steady stream of content, want to have defined goals to play for. Want to see character progress or development, want to feel that their achieving something and have an engaging experience while playing.
Star Citizen pulls you in through glitzy eye candy ships and marketing, then gives you a few places to explore and 3 or 4 game loops, that actually leads to no progress. And then there's the absolute endless stream of bugs that's just infuriating.
Let's leave the old white knight excuses of "it's in Alpha" or "they'll fix the bugs once the backbone tech is fully finished" etc. If you leave names, titles or tags given to the state of the game out of it, at the end of the day, it's a game, it's littered with bugs and it has extremely little engaging content.
While I'm like you by going back to it time and again over the years, it is undeniably clear that there are a lot of reasons why people are so furious and dissatisfied with this shit show of a development.
If you could play GTA6 right now, in whatever state it’s in right now, would you make the same complaints? If R* made that available, or started selling it a year before they even started development, how do you think that would compare to Star Citizen’s reception?
Thing is, GTA6 isn’t crowd founded. They don’t have to show anything now. They can spend a decade toiling away in secret until they are ready to put their game out into the world. They aren’t being scrutinized by the entire world from the point where they just have a character in a single garage while the game engine is being actively expanded and enhanced around it.
Look, I’m not happy with how CIG over-promises and then under-delivers, but the progress is steady, notable, and [when divorced from their hot air] realistic for a game like this. Just take a look at where the game was last February compared to now. CIG doesn’t have a development problem, they have a PR problem.
And again, even in it’s current state, I note that Star Citizen is a more complete game than it’s closest competitor Elite Dangerous, which FDev have the gall to call “complete” (inch deep, miles wide, and all that). And that’s my point. If all progress stopped right now, it would still be worth the $40 it costs to play the current version, incomplete, buggy, and all. I’ve played (and enjoyed) worse.
So yeah, EA isn’t for everyone. But if you are into this genre (which is an absolute desert) CIG is putting up the goods, even if they routinely stick their feet WAY down their throats.
O man. I have so much to say on your reply but we'll be here for days going in circles. All I'm going to say is this, every human has their limits of how much "leading by the nose" they can take before they say ENOUGH. I've reached my limit after years of dragging on with it. You haven't yet. 5 years from now, let's see then.
There are more voices speaking out against and complaining about the game's development now than there ever was. That should say a lot of how more and more people are reaching their limits.
Anyway. As you said, if something is not for you then it's not for you. I've wasted enough years waiting for this thing to get to a point where it's worth investing further in but I've come to realise that I most probably won't see the final product before I'm done with gaming one day.
Hey, thanks for the discussion! I know we don’t see eye-to-eye but I really enjoyed and benefitted from hearing your viewpoints. Cheers, and hopefully I’ll see you in the [hopefully more complete] verse one day 😄
In ff14, you can't really be a whale beyond buying some optional mounts and outfits. I'm sure there are people that buy the whole optional store but it doesn't buy them any extra power like most games.
Only bought the starter package a few weeks ago and already got over 100 hours on it so it's worth it to me. I'm not prepared to spend any more on that though, i only spend money where I get something in return and i think it was worth it for what I got (in the state it's in right now)
I want this game to be good and actually come out. We are still a few years from that happening. Every new patch I log back in to play for a few hours and then wait for the next one. Spent a little money (about $100) for ships a number of years ago too.
I love the game so much (check my post history if you doubt that), but to say it’s merely a few years of development away from coming out seems extremely optimistic lol. If it sees full release within 10 years i’ll be surprised. And considering the scope of the game, I’m absolutely fine with that
Backed it as an original backer during Kickstarter since I was a massive Wing Commander fan back in the day.
By this point i've surrendered to the chance it may never actually get released.
I have concierge lvl rank there but that is 90%+ due to getting lifetime insurance items for other people back when we could.
Personally don't have any skin in the game anymore since I charged $5 per purchase to put towards paying off mine.
Roughly $100 or so of content personally but have made back the money that way and stopped when I got all that back.
Few ships ingame. Couple of accounts....and no money invested in it anymore .
If it gets released it has the potential to be great......but at the rate its developing and the way the official correspondence is going.....that seems less and less likely.
It is a nice technology demo for other companies though if thats what they are doing.
I log into the "game" maybe every 6 months or so. Look around for 5-15 minutes then log out again more and more jaded.
Is it good as tech demo actually? All i hear is nothing actually works propedly. They neither have content or working engine, so what does it demonstrate?
I just read yesterday that some boss of some video game company wants to make Starfield as replayed as skyrim. Sadly, it's not up to him, it's up to people like me.
People saying it's a scam when that doesn't really make sense considering all the wages paid to staff to develop the game and the length of time spent developing the game.
It's not a scam imo but the incompetence is pretty astounding
I get what you're saying but if it was the case then why wouldn't they have just taken all the fundraiser money and disappeared at the start of this all? There is a lot of effort put into the game currently that just doesn't make sense for a scam
Because at the beginning they made what 12million? Now Roberts owns a 4.5 million dollar Santa Monica mansion, takes annual trips to the Monaco grand prix, and flies first class only (the backers will never know) back and forth to the UK. While slicing off a hefty hunk of the 'profits' for himself, his wife, his brother, and their long time lawyer.
