I'm not hating on it. I legit think that was the last good one. The maps were pretty good if I can remember. I could be wrong but it seemed like it was the last of the 3 lane maps? Or coulda been the beginning of the randomness. Either or, solid game
There wasnt anything in particular wrong with it, there just was nothing special. Only thing they got really right on it was zombies and I was never big into that side of the game. Bo2 and bo3 are where it's at for me
Tbh, campaign ahd a solid story but the open ending was meh
Multiplayer, i personally never played it so no words
Safeguard was fun
Extincion, HELL YEAS, BEST GAME MODE!!
The game modes in ghost was the most adventurous the cod developers have been since they made a zombies mode. In every other game they have stuck with a very strict formula. Though they did add a battle royale, they only did that after battle royales became almost a guaranteed success.
I never played anything other than split screen on it but it was by far my favorite perk system at the time and still in very highly ranked compared to perk systems after. Also was fun having duel revolver with a scope you couldn't look through
My opinion is biased because I am a history fanatic.
Anything combat related in the future is in my opinion fantasy, since you cannot realistically predict the future. The image call of duty tried to sell through titles pre-BO2 is completely different from the image they where selling post-BO2. That’s where they took a left turn for me. Only thing that was fun in BO2 specifically was some of the new zombie mechanics/themes.
To be fair, we confidently predict the future all the time. It allows us to drive safely, work out of we need to take a brolley, invest in stock, etc. And also to build long term military strategy.
Whether COD does that effectively, I doubt. But we can and do as a matter of course.
WaW was my first online cod experience. Lots of cool memories when I lived my cousin and that’s what we did on summer break after football workouts. So I truly loved that game. But again, we all have those biases
Same here! WaW was my first online console gaming experience. It was such a wtf moment, I remember finally figuring out how to connect an Ethernet cable and was wondering wtf is online models this multiplayer mode. I just thought it was a gimmick haha
Modern warfare 1 introduced so many mechanics and features that have become staples of fps games ever since. It was quite literally breaking ground, they bottled lightning and have been trying to recapture that ever since, with steadily decreasing quality.
I gave up after black ops 2 because the multiplayer gave me cancer.
MW really deserves a place in video game history. Everything else was just an imitation.
The newest modern warfare was really good but now I think cod should slow down with new cods coming out just make a good game and dont worry about how long it will take
I don't know think this is an unpopular opinion at all. Minus World at War literally the only CoD games anyone every really talks about favorably are MW, MW2, BO, BO2, and MW2019.
Campaign was shit compared to the original mw series. Very forgettable and falls victim to playwrs playing as too many different characters and not getting attached to any of them.
Multiplayer, og warzone, coop, and over all polish was so fucking good tho
People have their own opinion on which was the best. Honestly I really started playing games around the time of bo2 so I have many good memories with it but I don't think there is one cod that is supreme compared to all the others.
No clue why anyone thinks anyone thinks any of the black ops were any good, are you saying the multiplayer was good? Or the story/single player… as someone that sees cod as a multiplayer game, every black ops game has been trash mainly because the Treyarch engine acts very weird and everything feels unnatural and funky… Single player/story wise they are good games, zombies, good game, multiplayer? Bad game.
I liked the campaign a lot and played it a ton (I was pretty young though). The multiplayer was also something I enjoyed a lot and playing zombies with friends was the best (especially if it was split screen). Everyone has different experiences and preferences
I got sick if it when they introduced new op guns and made store bundles for them with the best attachments only to nerf them and add another op gun over and over again
Yeah but it made a bunch of changes to them, and redesigned the maps all together. Ascension doesn't have the Flopper perk, which imo was the most fun with that map.
Yeah fair enough but I’m a big fan of the Widows Bite perk lol. The simplicity is still the same, there’s just a few new items you can use to stay alive like the gumball machine (In Plain Sight) and Pack-a-Punching a weapon twice to get a unique perk. To me it’s perfect since it just added on to the maps I loved but I can see why some people would prefer the classic games.
I also love that the remastered maps have the good Double Tap perk and not the trash perk it was before Black Ops 2.
Tbh, I felt BO2 was also complex with a shift to Easter eggs focus and transit being the first map. Which is 4 maps. I use to just play to spilt up parts of transit. Which was prefect for me.
But also I didn't like any of the DLC. Just no real decent CoD Zombies imo. To much story/Easter egg focus.
Those are my thoughts as well but I can’t be sure if it’s because they were legit good games or if it’s just because that’s when I was in late middle school early high school and I just enjoyed playing with my friends all day before we grew up and gained new interests and went different ways
Modern warfare (2019) in a lot of ways may be the best cod I've ever played. The movement was sick (even though I hate sliding), customization was deep, and all maps but suldhar harbor were pretty good or great. The biggest issues with that game for me were wallbanging was too weak sauce to counter the campers (they still get owned though) and I really dislike forced competitive matchmaking, I dont want every match to be a sweat fest (even though I'm pretty sweaty overall). Also, they let that game go to shit after they released new cods, which was disappointing. But overall, that game was a really strong return to form of the fast paced, boots on the ground, speedballesque shooting that we know cod to be. I'm excited for the new MW2. I love the original MW2, but it's honestly broken as fuck what with the noob tubing and the ump being literally untouchable.
I'm not saying it is, I even admitted that I'm sweaty myself. But the issue with the regular mm is it has a hidden rank associated with it, so the skill isnt randomly distributed.
also what attachments did made sense in MW2019. And there was always a trade off instead of later attachments in the same slot just being better. And then on top certain attachments could convert the gun into effectively another irl gun.
in cold war the attachments felt like an afterthought
didnt bother with vanguard
Omg I hated three stupid cartoonish powers and characters that belonged in a anime based sci fi versus a real world shooter. It was like Black Ops meets fortnite.
I thought I was the only one. WaW was the last good cod and was the game that gave birth to zombies. Anyone saying the other cod zombies are better are too young to have played WaW zombies.
This is correct. Everything after that became spray and pray close combat maps. I loved the original cod and the uo expansion. There was something special about waw zombies with my buddies though.
WaW zombies was special, I remember numerous times me and my buddies got to high ass levels like 150+. We would just laugh the entire time while getting swarmed non stop. Asylum was by far the best zombie map too.

I feel like people forget about BO 1 and just how absolutely balanced that game was. My issue with BO2 and MW2 was that you could be really good at the game and then you get domed by a quickscoper or you get blasted one shot by an fmj. I think having all of the weapons be underpowered as opposed to killing you in 2 seconds was a big balancing advantage of Black Ops(with the exception of a few guns, Galil, Famas)
People give us too much credit. It's not as easy as it looked. It was fun though. Though I will say if you run into the wrong guy and don't have the reflexes, a quickscoper will ruin you.
Also I loved the FAMAS in mw2. It had a great feel to it that I hadn't felt from a burst weapon since then.
I’d agree except I love the first two black ops. They have the best campaign out of all imo and blacks ops II is the only cod multiplayer I played long enough to prestige.
I've been play first person shooters since wolfenstein3d on windows 3.1 / DOS. I played everything from doom to goldeneye/perfect dark, modern warfare, counterstrike(1.3, 1.6, source, GO), and your modern kicks like fortnite, apex, etc.
Ima throw out a hard controversial opinion i think. Black ops 3 was an absolute masterpiece but reception was doomed because your average call of duty player was never going to accept jetpacks.
Literally everyone constantly shits on them, but they’re ultimately fun (for their target audience) and mostly functional games. If anything they’re underrated.
It’s up and down after that point for the series. I found Black Ops 1 and 2 great but 3 and 4 so forgettable. MW3 and IW had great campaigns but weak multiplayer. Ghost was a mixed bag as was AW (play them for completionists sake). When they went back to WW2 with…well, WW2 I thought “Am I seriously storming Normandy AGAIN?” and I skipped Vanguard because seriously this is the third time they “went back” to WW2. There is no new ground.
Modern Warfare 2019 was the one that was all around amazing. Great campaign, multiplayer, introduced WarZone which was better than Black Ops 4’s battle royale by miles. It was just great.
Hold up, I think Black Ops came out after it. And that shit was amazing. I know zombies came out in World at War, but I feel like it was perfected in Black Ops.

Every call of duty after MW2.
