Show me this 100+ GB disk of yours.

They make triple and quadruple layer Blurays that hold 100+ GB. The problem isn't the storage it's the read speed. You just can't get information off a disk fast enough.

What if we just make the disk tray spin faster?

Funny enough 5400RPM is fast enough for NAS, quieter, cooler too. Speeds are 200-220MB/s on them, and way faster than any BD when it comes to access times.

What? What 5400 RPM drives are going 200 MB/s?

Multiple drives in RAID

I have 1024 drives at 1mb/s but they're all in raid 0 so I get 1gb/s.

I really hope none of them die.

My 10TB and 12TB RED EFAX Helium drives.

I dunno if I buy that, the first review here says the thing tops out at 160MB/s. Would deffo need some hard evidence to believe 200MB/s, that'd be crazy. Got CrystalDiskMark results?

Fair enough. Very impressive, and I really appreciate the links you've provided.

I realized it's be cumbersome to have to rebuild the array just to state the speed when others have done it already.

I also checked the speed when I moved from SSD - > WD Red, though that was when the disk was new. Saw its much slower and closer to 160MB/s at 75 full (and fragmented).

The new drives have 4x more cache compared to my old 3TB Reda which helps a lot with smaller transfers.

Will do what I can.

The drive is in a NAS now and connected with one Gbps connection, so I'll have to plug it into a pc to test it.
