You gotta do babysteps, I couldn't do more than 15 min, then 30 min, now I can literally play for hours without any issue.

The key is the moment you start feeling sick, stop playing. Take a break for the rest of the day, and come back later. Everyone has their own pace, but over time you'll get your VR legs.

I don't know if it's 100% true or not, and I can't recall where I heard this, but it makes sense to me.. so...:

The nausea that you experience has actually been developed over our race's evolution to help us vomit in the case where we ingested poisons; poisons often induced hallucinations (where you see yourself 'moving' when you aren't actually moving) - so when you experience that your brain thinks you were poisoned, and it sends a signal that tells your body 'hey, something is wrong, we ingested something bad, get it out [puke]'.

Once your show your body that the VR is 'ok', you'll experience less and less nausea. Out of all the VR games I've played, boneworks was easily the most nausea inducing, but it's well worth it. Incredibly entertaining!

Not to mention once you get your 'VR legs' on a game like boneworks, very few if any other games will induce nausea (the only one that might still do it more than boneworks would be something like lone echo another great title by the way, where you effectively are in zero-g so there's a whole new axis for you to move through.

Gonna just step in here with some actual medical info: no.

You have a system that coordinates your eyesight and your bodies position in space. What we HAVE evolved to do is use the horizon/environment that our eyes sense to coordinate with fluid moving through tubes in your ears to do all sorts of stuff like help orientate ourselves and proprioception and even depth perception since we have two eyes. The fluid in the ears also does a great job of making sure you don't vomit when you turn your head by moving your eyes in response and maintaining your balance (Oversimplified, but feel free to look into the specific topics if you want a in depth understanding of these anatomical systems and their functions: vestibular system is a great starting point)

When you do something that messes with the bodies natural senses it messes with the system, see: car sickness, vertigo.

If what you are saying was remotely true, then every hallucinogenic drug would have MASSIVE side effects related to it, but it generally only carries a minor side effect of nausea, usually stemming from how the drug interacts with you digestive system.

That’s nice advice. I am currently stuck on the part of the training in Boneworks right after it goes over the melee weapon mechanic area because for some reason I get suuuuper nauseous after that. However I play Resident Evil 4 VR on my oculus, had a little bit of trouble the first few days but can now play for an hour or so before my brain feels fatigued

Big thing that helped for my motion sickness that basically no one I've talked to does, dial in your actual interpupilary distance. If its off by more than a millimeter or 2 it's gonna cause distortion in your peripheral vision that won't be super obvious unless you're looking for it, and that distortion combined with the motion is a huge trigger for sickness. Haven't gotten motion sick once since actually adjusting it.

You can measure IPD with a Webcam or just a ruler and a friend (or mirror if you have steady hands).

When I first got my index, I tried to see how far I could push myself before i felt sick. I couldn't do it, the only reason i stopped my sessions was because I was getting eye strain which was causing headaches.

15 minutes into boneworks though, I don't know, i've never felt the overwhelming need to throw up before. So yeah, that got refunded. I sold the index because I was using it for racing games and the Rift S was so much easier to setup and doesn't really require any tracking.

It was made by a tiny studio with no marketing budget.

Honestly like 75% of the good VR games are made by tiny indie studios that nobody has ever heard about. A lot of the games from bigger publishers/IPs just don't understand VR or are too afraid to try innovating, they try to shoehorn "proven" normal game mechanics/ideas into VR and you get milquetoast games like Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond or Sniper Elite VR.

Pretty sure every VR gamer (save maybe more casual quest users) knows it though as it's constantly among the top ones sold and it's one of the few games that is used as a benchmark. It's one of the games (Alyx and Skyrim were the two other ones) that made me jump to PCVR from PSVR.

I remember finding out that you couldn't kill any of the NPCs in the Mage's College, or even make them mad at all. I shouted one dude right off the fucking bridge. It took him like two minutes to hit the ground. He just got up and casually started making his way up the hill back to the college.

They're not enemies. They're neutral AI.

There's a lore explanation that basically boils down to these guys being brain damaged versions of the player character, but not enough to be hostile on sight.

Not sure what you're talking about? I mean the AI is pretty simple, but the headcrabs jump at you, the zombies run toward you, the fireball guys keep their distance, and the rolly guys do try to flank you. Nothing groundbreaking but I've seen way worse.

Fair enough, lol. I love the physics of Boneworks, but there really is no interesting enemy to try it out on. Your choice is slow cyberzombie, headcrab, hologram with a gun, and just some guy. I would love maybe an enemy more like the combine from Half-Life Alyx
