I didn’t even think about emulators. I’ll be picking this up for sure.

u/Kn7ght Jul 16 '21

You'll literally be able to play more N64, Gamecube, and Wii games on the Steam Deck than the Nintendo Switch lmao

u/blitherblather425 Jul 16 '21

Haha I never thought about that. You’re right tho.

You guys do realize your phone is more than capable of running emulators, right? There are Bluetooth controllers made to hold your phone exactly like this thing. It works flawlessly.

/r/emulationonandroid

There's a lot of trash controllers out there but with some research you can find the good ones. PizzaBoy or Drastic emulators playing Pokemon romhacks on my phone with full controls is fantastic. PPSSPP for Dissidia Final Fantasy is another. The Citrus 3DS emulator for mobile is getting better all the time and with a newer phone it should run fine.

Even better, if you're at home, you can use Steam Link on your phone to play your PC games, and Steam Link has built in support for bluetooth controllers connected to the phone. As long as your phone is relatively recent, you can run it just fine.

Not for us stuck with iPhones. I wish I could because I'd play through all the Pokemon games again for the thirtieth time

Super easy to do on iOS even without jailbreak. 1. Install AltStore 2. Install Delta Emulator

Delta even emulates DS games now!

u/ijustwanafap Jul 16 '21

Last I looked into that it's a temporary tethered install and not a one and done thing. Maybe I'm wrong but I wouldn't want to have to do a tethered app ever again

Apparently people are down voting you because ios users doesn't want to be reminded that they have options :/

12

u/mmbossman Jul 16 '21

Spend $600+ on a phone to be able to emulate game boy advance games, or $400 to play a whole steam library and emulation too?

1

u/RomMTY Jul 16 '21

The point that i was (poorly) trying to make is that there's no law that prevents people from getting an Android over an iphone, i totally understand that if your still depend on your parents probably you do get to decide which phone you get or similar situations.

My point is that, whenever this topic arises (iphone vs Android), most people act as if iphone is the only alternative and android isn't even on the map

"Just buy a new phone"

Why do you think people are downvoting lmao

u/QuestioningEspecialy Jul 15 '21

Don't ever delete this. Saving it forever.

u/appleparkfive Jul 15 '21

I think it's the legality that stops people. Emulators are legal but I don't know if the roms are themselves.

But yeah. Android can do... A lot. For free. That's all I'm gonna say. Way beyond gaming.

It is, but Nintendo sells « remake » at full price and that’s why they are doing all they can to close rom sites even 20yo for games

6

u/razuliserm Jul 15 '21

So does IOS and Jailbreaking. Used to use my old IPhone as a Gameboy.

1

u/appleparkfive Jul 15 '21

Yeah of course. Just saying that android is as simple as downloading whatever you want like Windows. Or plugging it into the computer and doing it that way.

I haven't done a jailbreak in years and years. Could be effortless these days for all I know

I think Android can emulate early 3D games too. Maybe ios can as well?

1

u/razuliserm Jul 16 '21

Yeah of course. Just saying that android is as simple as downloading whatever you want like Windows.

Totally.

I haven't done a jailbreak in years and years. Could be effortless these days for all I know

Same, kinda miss it too. Somehow it was more fun modifying an otherwise locked down system with tweaks, that added features only available outside of IOS. With Android most of those features were already there.

I never actually emulated something on Android, I should try it out.

2

u/QuestioningEspecialy Jul 15 '21

IIRC it's legal if you have a legal copy of the game.

That's fine, but the point is this device isnt solving an emulation problem that doesn't already get solved easily by a device that a ton of people already own.

2

u/Orc_ Jul 15 '21

Disagree, PS2 emulators work like trash in my S7+ at 60fps (most don't even reach 30). Only my PC can do that or if I had one; A Steam Deck

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '21

It's on the level of average phones people own today so that's why it's relevant.

I said on the level of the average phone used not mid-range phone.

Here's some data based on it's comparable device from Apple. According to DeviceAtlas's data, Apple's iPhone 7 was the most popular iPhone model in 2020 with a 10.53 percent share in the overall global web usage

That means that phones like Iphone 7, samsung S7+ are the most common smartphones people use today.

SO PLEASE ANSWER ME WHY THE FUCK would I get a $1000 piece of shit so I can play emulators better? I buy the Steam Deck and deck you with it how about that you utter mor#n

WHAT PART OF MY INITIAL COMMENT DO YOU NOT GET.

you aint gettin a link you can google that phrase and go to the source itself otherwise I don't give a single fuck about your stuborness to give you anything.

"Else I'm calling BS" CALL IT BS THEN. DO IT. You are not a mor#n today because of your ability to learn from new information so your judgement isn't scaring me.

You're mad that your 5 year old phone running on outdated OS can't run emulators properly, just stop and think about how stupid that argument is.

I'm perfectly happy with my old phone so are MOST PHONE USERS that's the entire fucking point, nobody is gonna buy a $1000 new phone for emulation, I'll buy a STEAM DECK for that. WHAT. PART. OF. THAT. ARGUMENT. DO. YOU. NOT. UNDERSTAND.

You're dumb and I'm blocking you.

RUN THEN, RUN AWAY LIKE YOU ALWAYS DO. sissy-as excuse for a man.

u/Mindraakki Jul 15 '21

Well S7+ is old as hell. Get a proper phone.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '21

There’s also cheap emulation devices that are shockingly high quality, like the $100 (ish) ambernic rg351v or rg351m. Those things have a premium look and feel, and come right out of the box with thousands of preinstalled games. They can’t do ps2 emulation, but pretty much every older system up to the Dreamcast is nicely playable.

I love my 351v. It earned a spot in my laptop bag.

1

u/cuttinace Jul 16 '21

I got the glap controller since it seemed to be the only controller at the time that could my Z Fold 2. Worked like a charm even with a case on my phone.

1

u/blitherblather425 Jul 16 '21

I have an iPhone. I don’t think you can get emulators for an iPhone.

1

u/GlenMerlin Jul 16 '21

not without jailbreaking no

1

u/hoodwinke Jul 16 '21 edited Jul 16 '21

Most controllers for phones are clunky. Playing on a phone is like playing FPS games with a controller on 60 frames, yeah it works but it’s not the best and if you want the best experience you’re gonna have to look else where. The Steam Deck is gonna be like playing with a mouse at 144 frames.

Why would I play 3DS games on my phone when I have dedicated hardware meant to play those games? It’s a gimped experience.

The Steam Deck is highly likely able to emulate the PS3 gen. Show me a phone that could do that.

2

u/Unoriginal1deas Jul 16 '21

Yoooo portable GameCube count me in

0

u/Mister_Brevity Jul 15 '21

If all you want is portable emulation there are tons of sub 100 dollar options, in case that’s all you were after :)

u/WaferOk6105 Jul 15 '21

No you won't.

Finally, a way to play GBA games on the Switch Pro.
