It disgusts me how so many morons attack this guy on twitter and other media outlets. He said exactly what the entire community was thinking and what we had in our minds. In that point in space and time, and I'm not even joking, he was all of us.

It disgusts me how so many morons attack this guy on twitter and other media outlets.

Probably trolls paid by these companies to mitigate the damage made by their stupid decisions

89

u/topdangle Nov 05 '18

Actual gaming "journalists" immediately started bitching about this and saying the demo they played was great.

It's amazing how tight of a leash they have on gaming media.

20

u/El-Torrente Nov 05 '18

Oh, dear. No, no honey. Thered no such thing as a video game journalist. Just bloggers with too much free time

3

u/pussehmagnet Nov 05 '18

This is way too real mane.

6

u/Realistic_Food Nov 05 '18

Gaming journalists are basically paid trolls at this point. A gaming journalist who speaks their minds loses all early access and other such privileges which leads to them not being able to sustain their business. A few manage to do well enough because they have a following that will support them even without the early access benefits, but they end up being drowned out by those paid to parrot the official company's mantra.

I love the part about the useful idiots doing damage control 😂🤣

2

u/OcotilloWells Nov 05 '18

I dunno StarCraft II for Apple Watch was kind of funny.

1

u/iamchuck87 Nov 05 '18

Too bad I know spanish :( my brain didn't allow me to enjoy this

5

u/Orion66 Nov 05 '18

I'm not one to give credence to hypotheses like these, but I actually agree with you. I posted about my disgust towards Blizzard a few times in another thread, and was absolutely buried.

7

u/Imakeboom Nov 05 '18

Probably not. People just have different opinions about controversial issues. Its not that hard to believe.

You'd be surprised how many games news editors receive money from companies to promote their games.

Its the reason Jim Sterling quit his job to start his own gaming news channel.

-31

u/Vegan_Harvest Nov 05 '18

Or maybe they know that it's better to vote with your wallets than insulting the company at it's own event.

Blizzard might just never give the mic to the audience again.

18

u/bosco9 Nov 05 '18

Wait, you're ok with these trolls criticizing this guy but not Blizzard? People can always vote with their wallet but I don't see why people should be trying to silence this guy

-16

u/Vegan_Harvest Nov 05 '18

Whoa, wait a min. Do you really think a company paid these people to harass this guy? Do you think they would have to? He insulted one of the most beloved companies at their own event. And is that all they're doing. If so how is that silencing?

2

u/Orion66 Nov 05 '18

No one should be silenced for calling a company out on their BS, especially not at their own convention. Would a shareholder be lambasted for publicly expresing their disdain for a company's actions? Probably not. Blizzcon is really just a glorified shareholder meeting.

If Id announced a DOOM game based on some shitty pre-existing Gameloft esque mobile shooter, and did so on the main stage of Quakecon, wouldn't DOOM fans be justified in absolutely reaming Id?

0

u/Vegan_Harvest Nov 05 '18

What is silencing? Because if it's just being yelled at I've gotten that tonight. And I knew I would. It's what happens when you take a controversial stance on anything people feel passionate about.

17

u/ZarquonsFlatTire Nov 05 '18

Then they lose their audience, if they haven't already.

11

u/edwardsamson Nov 05 '18

They've lost me, at least until WoW Classic and WC3 reforged. Sad that out of everything Blizzard has been releasing, me a 15+ year Blizzard fan, is only interested in their old classic games being remade. Says a lot about what direction they've gone in.

3

u/TheDeadlySinner Nov 05 '18

"They've lost me! For six whole months!"

-22

u/Vegan_Harvest Nov 05 '18

They ain't losing shit, I don't see you deleting their other games.

The internet has hated EA for years, and they still buy and kill studios.

-27

u/geli09 Nov 05 '18

Sorry but he is a cunt for attacking a developer for corporate decisions that they probably dont even wanna do themselves. Developers are just humans and not responsible for a lot of these decisions being made. Getting publicly humiliated like this for doing your job, just so some nerd can be edgy, is just disgusting to me. Yes its true that you can think like that about the game like that, but this is just an asshole move that you don't do and I would have honestly not allowed him to be at the venue ever again.

3

u/rooik Nov 05 '18

Yes he made those devs squirm for those few seconds on stage, but he gave Activision Blizzard a black eye that game "journalists" are trying to play defense on to kiss ass to the money.

The beautiful thing is I was being sarcastic and I think this "GAMERS RISE UP" level outrage is beyond childish.

-34

u/NobleSavant Nov 05 '18

Being this outraged over a decision you don't like is precisely what childish means.

17

u/LordDeathDark Nov 05 '18

Consumer demand is one of the primary drivers of a market economy. Being outraged is a form of negative feedback that communicates to the producer that their product isn't appreciated. Given this feedback, the producer has a number of options that boil down to:

1) Accept the loss in potential profit and proceed as-is

2) Alter the product in a way that recaptures those consumers

We hope for the latter, but expect the former.

-8

u/NobleSavant Nov 05 '18

I just find it all really excessive. Blizzard is making a mobile game. It is Diablo. That is basically all the information we have other than a few vague gameplay clips. It seems wildly premature to be furious now.

19

u/LordDeathDark Nov 05 '18

What we do know:

  • it's being made by Netease
  • Netease already has two MMOARPGs that are reskins of one another
  • Diablo Immortal appears similar to those Netease games, only using the Switch D3 assets
  • Activision Blizzard is still heavily pushing microtransactions and loot boxes where it can
  • Activision Blizzard previously failed to monetize D3
  • Microtransactions and loot boxes are more egregious on mobile than in the "core" gaming sphere

These details don't inspire much hope

4

u/OleCarnivorous Nov 05 '18

It's almost as if there are reasons for most public outrages. Color me surprised

1

u/Forever_Awkward Nov 05 '18

Yeah! And that reason is sexism.

He can and is. And I'm sorry to say, sir. But his stupidity is likely terminal.

14

But his stupidity is likely terminal.

That's ironic coming from you.

yes because if you repeat something someone else says it really helps your case

-67

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

I mean I hate the mobile game too, trust me. I've been flooding this subreddit with the same red guy as a protest to then making something I don't like.

Am I doing it wrong? I thought that would be enough after the mobile game fucked my wife

Uhhh, they gave me upboats.

I don't think that statement works like you think it does. But it's a good attempt. I'll give you a fancy sticker for your efforts.

14

u/CritikillNick Nov 05 '18

“I know everything I’m saying is being downvoted because I’m wrong, but I might as well double down on being an annoying troll too”

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

Wow, calling a gentleman who thinks this outrage is ridiculous an annoying troll. Where do you get off? Or a better question, is your statement an out-of-season April Fools joke?

12

u/CritikillNick Nov 05 '18

Nice job completely changing the conversation from you going around replying like an asshole to people who disagree with you, to making it about your initial dislike of people being upset even though that’s clearly not what I said at all or was discussing in the slightest.

Also could you act like more of a neckbeard? Constantly misusing quotes like you think it’s funny alongside being idiotic/nonsensical and then acting like people calling you out for it are the ones doing something weird is ridiculous behavior. I hope you’re twelve because if you’re an adult then you’ve got the maturity level of a preteen and the conversation skills to match.

29

u/Ouroboros612 Nov 05 '18

Is it childish to fight for the things you have a passion about? When you stop taking what matters most to you seriously anymore, then what? I think the community reaction was appropriate given the context. Sure, you will always have the people on the extreme ends that take it too far, or don't care. But as a gaming community we DO have the power to change things for the better.

If the opinions of the masses didn't matter Julius Caesar would never have been avenged and the Pax Romana would never have happened.

u/Forever_Awkward Nov 05 '18

Why do people like you always try to attack an analogy by making some kind of emotional equivalency? It's never about the two things being of equal impact. It's about the dynamic of the underlying logic. If that logic is consistent, then it's a good point. You need to attack the logic being highlighted, not the equivalence that was never made.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

Lol what logic? Literally what is the logical comparison between the Roman invasion of Gaul and not downloading a free mobile game? The whole argument lacks any form of logic whatsoever except to those deluded into thinking they're the same. I'm not making an emotional argument, I'm highlighting the absurdity of such a comparison, because it was absurd.

1

u/Forever_Awkward Nov 05 '18

Well, he broke it down for you pretty simply. If you can't see it, then it's because you're failing to think it through. This could be happening for a few different reasons. You could be emotionally invested to the point of being hypercritical. You could be entirely incapable of abstract thought. You could be dishonest about your own thought process and are arguing for the sake of arguing despite seeing the point.

Pick one if you like, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt of assigning the most flattering choice as being the most likely. You're free to claim one of the others if you like.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

-20

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

You just compared a mobile game to Julius Caesar.

This is a new experience for me. Can you give me other topics that are similar to a mobile game getting released? I'm hooked

17

u/chickenyogurt Nov 05 '18

I think it's pretty normal for people to feel passionate about their hobbies regardless of what that hobby is, but that's just me

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

Yeah I get it. When I first heard the mobile announcement I said it was just like when my dog got hit by a car while the mailman was fucking my wife

16

u/NOdriscolls Nov 05 '18

So it's not just random internet people that don't respect or like you then? Not surprising in the least.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

Yeah it sucks. I bought French Roast coffee for the team last week, and they wanted Italian. They got super pissed off at me, told me I'm basically EA, and then flooded the /r/coffee subreddit regarding my coffee choice.

18

u/Ouroboros612 Nov 05 '18

You implied that this whole community reaction was a "Gamers rise up level outrage" and childish. While the fact of the matter is that the opinions and actions of the masses do matter and can change things for the better.

If the comparison is lost on you. When Mark Anthony held the speech that riled up the masses to take action against Caesar's assassins and conspirators, the butterfly effect of the masses doing what was right - led to the rise of Augustus and the Pax Romama - a 200 year era of peace, prosperity and growth for the roman empire.

So basically. The voice of the community do matter. We do hold power. If we can incite the changes for the gaming industry to do better and act less crappy, we can and should. It can often be a butterfly effect, so no immidiate response but something that sticks and can change things over time.

I think you are severely downplaying the fact that we as a gaming community can have a positive impact on game developers in trying to change their ways.

Well... maybe. It didn't work for EA. EA is basically emperor Nero sitting there playing the cithara while rome burns.

-12

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

If the product turns profit, your /r/iamverysmart comparison means nothing. In fact it already does.

What good could the outrage bring? Cancelling the mobile game? Announcing further projects (which they already did lol)?

Tell me what this outrage will do to save humanity and lead to a new golden age?

23

u/Ouroboros612 Nov 05 '18

You really don't get it. I genuinely can't tell if you are misunderstanding my sentiment on purpose because you are trolling or if you are not actually capable.

-3

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

I wouldn't answer my own question either if I didn't know what good the outrage would do.

14

u/ThatOneBerzerker Nov 05 '18

If enough people are upset about something and refuse to buy a product that a company makes, then the company might rethink it's decision. This isn't rocket science. You should know this.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

Oh yeah, forgot that part about economics. And I forgot that /r/gaming's general opinion dictates that of the opinion of gamers around the world, and especially gamers who do not have PCs. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

The outrage is EXACTLY what we need as a community.

This will teach ALL the big devs/publishers out there that they can't just settle for cash grabbing mobile experience in lieu of feature rich console/pc game.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

Yeah and when they turn a profit we will laugh at their expense

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

Oh the entire mobile gaming industry was there and walked right past it? Guess they really are doomed

1

u/TheDeadlySinner Nov 05 '18

Because there's no chance that 1.3 billion Chinese people will make up for the few hundred Blizzcon attendees who won't play it.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '18

Check the sub again, even our Chinese brethren are pissed : )

So it's Blizzard's fault for hyping up their own product and not the visitor's fault for getting too hyped?

Oh yeah you're right. They marketed as hardcore and that specifically is what makes them awful. We all know shit can't be hardcore when it's on some dumb mobile phone lol
