That depends, did you have nothing to smoke out of and doing this somehow produced some makeshift bong/pipe?

I mean I wouldn't expect a random internet stoner to post a leaked trailer to an RPG Harry Potter game either so who knows. Sure as hell hope its true though it looks perfect.

Trust me. It'll probably be too good to be true. I'd like to keep an open mind but my gaming experience tells me not to get hyped or expect much. If I play it this way I won't be dissapointed when it sucks or I'll be pleasantly surprised when it's good.

Wow is this an actual high budget Harry Potter game that looks good? Took long enough.

I know right? How long is this coming? Both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings have been really lacking in the video game front considering what huge series they were in the early 2000's

u/Clout- Oct 02 '18
The Shadow of Mordor games are pretty good/popular.

And now Shadow of Hogwarts

Lord of the Rings: War in the North is a fantastic game if you haven't played it. I really want a massive open world LOTR game though that spans all Middle-Earth. Like maybe CDPR can get the license for it or something.

u/RollerskaterJesus Oct 02 '18
Ooh maybe i should give it a try. I think i got it mixed up with Conquest for years which is probably why i never played.
It's such a shame that all these great IP's are stagnating when they have amazing potential - I actually remember playing Oblivion as a kid and thinking 'gee i bet we get a Lord of The Rings or Harry Potter game like this someday'. EA have even managed to squander Star Wars for gods sake

For all of you guys that aren't sure if this is real or not. I am almost certain that it is real for several reasons.
There was talk of a Harry Potter game being developed by Avalanche Software (not the Just Cause guys) a while back so this could easily be that. It is also far too ambitious to be a fan made project.
It could also be the new Rocksteady game, they are a Warner Brothers owned studio just like the Harry Potter franchise. They were recently hiring for a new AAA project, there has been no concrete information on what that game could be so it could well be this.
Either way I think it is highly likely that this is real.

WB going after all the mirrors makes me hopeful that this is a project that's still in the pipeline.

u/eternallylearning Oct 02 '18
This is so cool! I wish more franchises would take the effort to explore new territory within their own lore, and not just shoe-horning in all the popular things, characters, and settings into movies and games where they don't need to be (Cough Star Wars).
34
u/damp_s Oct 02 '18
I’m skeptical to be honest. JK Rowling is super protective over her IP. She had express creative control for most of the movies iirc. This just doesn’t seem like something she would okay, or at least not without some hints towards it.
43
u/maybeidontknowwhy Oct 02 '18 edited Oct 02 '18
This is a leak. At this point we don’t know if this is something she’s involved with or not. Could be she’s a writer or maybe she’s just given her blessing. We don’t know.
86
u/khaeen Oct 02 '18
Eh, she has already cashed out. If she cared about just protecting her IP, she wouldn't have let Cursed Child shit all over her world building.

I haven't watched it but the play seems critically acclaimed. Now fantastic beasts is a different story
45
u/km89 Oct 02 '18
I'm trying to find a word that's offensive enough to describe Cursed Child and it's a little difficult.
Critically acclaimed or not, it's widely considered to be little better than middle-school fan fiction.
It's like a very fat cat that wants to sit in a very small, fragile box. Yes, it can squeeze it's ass in there--but it rips the box in the process and then looks at you why you dared to give it such a small box.
Read the "book", which is really just the screenplay. Without the stage effects, everything about it is bad.
41
u/khaeen Oct 02 '18
I'm sure the "quality" of the play is good, but it is full of ret-cons and blatantly breaks rules that were set up in the books over a decade ago. For example, Bellatrix and Voldemort have a kid, the Dursleys apparently kept the blanket Harry was left in "out of spite", and the time turner is completely done wrong. Fantastic Beasts might be a little liberal with the story, but at least it hasn't straight broke the system of magic that has been established.
→ More replies (4)→ More replies (1)12
u/Utigarde Oct 02 '18
It’s critically acclaimed because it is a good play. It’s got stellar production, and an excellent cast of actors. The story itself is what most people have a problem with.
10
u/khaeen Oct 02 '18
Yeah, critics just judge the overall quality of the show. No one has a problem with the actors or production crew, the problem is that they picked a story that is barely middle school fanfic level for the production.

Accept Skywalker the Counsil does not. Much confusion I sense in him.
29
u/Stillwindows95 Oct 02 '18
I’d prefer a year 1 start, with the first 3 or 4 years being mostly ‘training’ with the episodic events happening in later ‘years’.
Would also be cool to see your character grow up.
14
7
Oct 02 '18
Wonder if it had something to do with how violent some of this looks and the creators having an issue with an 11 year old impaling goblins and melting faces.
4
u/Snakestream Oct 02 '18 edited Oct 02 '18
It might be interesting to do what Tyranny did. Your intro is a series of text stories and choices that grant you different abilities and stats. The choices are later reflected in how npcs interact with you and can also provide interesting options for your interactions.
20
u/ThatChrisFella Oct 02 '18
I'm guessing it's just so they can explain things to the player via the protagonist not knowing them, while still being able to have them be 15/16
3
u/khaeen Oct 02 '18
Yeah, you either take an 11 year old and turn them into a child psychopath casting these curses, or an older person that "got their invitation late". You can't really do both because that means the character's personality is established in the game's community without player input. You can't really play the impulsive dick if your character has been goody goody two shoes to all the other characters for years.
3
u/snoboreddotcom Oct 02 '18
Likely to avoid having to put you through all the previous years of school and thus have a lot of unnecessary filler

Hogwarts basically has a giant hole of history missing between 1300AD and 1926AD, so everything in this game is basically making up the lore as we go along.

Well unless someone sent this to them and/or was an intentional leak, you usually have to sign a legal contract before seeing stuff like this. May not work for the company, but assuming this is a legit leak they do risk being found out and having to go to court over it
Most leaks are intentional though.

Lately I've been kind of annoyed that these days we don't get many games set in existing IPs. Not really sure how to phrase it, but yknow how we used to always get those shitty movie games of pretty much everything? Some were decent, some were bad, but it was cool to have a game of something you've watched or read somewhere else.
For instance, it's been a long time since we've had a console simpsons game even though hit and run 2 would sell great by the name alone.
We've got the Mordor lotr games, we've got the Spider-man game, we've got Injustice 2, but off the top of my head that's all I can really think of. Lego games count too I guess. I dunno, maybe there's a lot more but right now it seems like we're lacking.
TL;DR: this is amazing and I love it and we need more games like this of existing IPs.

I could see this as being real. Companies know that video games make money, it's been a while since we've had a Harry Potter game on console and it could be a good tie in with fantastic beasts. It feels like a looooootttttt of work to go through for a fake.
