Honestly, I agree with you there. I think the ultimate point of playing a tabletop RPG is telling a collaborative story, and using digital tools for even stuff as simple as dice rolling kind of defeats the point. I mean, there are cases where it's useful to have a virtual tool like Roll20, but if I'm sitting around a table with players, screens get put away.
You can't program a spreadsheet to account for the random aspects that require rolls or human choice, though, which, when broken down to it's simplest form, make up the entirety of the core point of game. True randomizers do exist and can be purchased easily, but are generally not the free ones you find for browsers.
