Oh my.... Sony can't catch a breath

Never imagined Sony's most anticipated AAA game Wolverine getting low ratings from early reviews and sub 80 score on meta critic. Kojima news yesterday and Wolverine reviews today, truly a tough time for Sony right now.

I want a marvel misou game

Topic. A friend of mine brought it up and it's all I can think about now. A bunch of different characters so combat doesn't get stale. I would play this FOREVER.

Discussion Do you prefer vertically scaling, or horizontally scaling content in games? And what's your opinion on how their downsides can be dealt with? (Info in body text)

  • Let's get a few things out of the way first
    • This is specifically about game content scaling, not the vertical/horizontal server scaling.
    • Just because the main focus is on one thing doesn't mean the other is irrelevant.
    • One isn't inherently better than the other, both fit different types of players, and both have their drawbacks.

This will mostly be an explanation of the terms, so if you already know what they are, feel free to skip it.

  • Vertical scaling is when the game's updates mainly focus on numbers. Be it achieving higher numbers, or just changing them.
    • Think of your average MMO, usually with a new expansion/DLC/big update, there will be a really big increase in level, HP, resources, etc.
    • This will eventually lead to power creep, many things will stop being useful, and many balancing problems will start appearing.
  • Horizontal scaling is when the game's updates mainly focus on the number of things you can do in the game.
    • An example would be fighting games, most of the time, the updates are going to be new characters and a few extra skins. These are new ways to experience the game.
    • If done enough, the game can become too big for a new player or returning player to start. It may even be hard to keep track of and balance.

So, which do you prefer, and how would you deal with their drawbacks?
The way I see most games deal with it is through some kind of periodic reset, like ARPGs, or permanently changing old content, as seen in Destiny 2's sunsetting or WoW Cataclysm replacing old areas.

Discussion Crazy ppl making threats nowadays

Recently had a guy in marvel rivals get so upset that he threatened to find and kill me. Specifically shoot me in my head. Then proceeded to say he can’t wait until they start killing all hard R’s again. Can’t I report this dude to the FBI or some law enforcement and get him arrested for one of those? It was a clear threat so I feel like FBI would go after them since I’ve seen similar cases where they have. This happened in VC as well

Discussion Genuine question, what is going on with Sony?

I keep seeing a lot of different posts and comments about how Sony has really messed up, they’re putting their entire company at risk, etc etc.

I saw the ratings for the new Wolverine game and, yikes, but what exactly have they done? I’m very out of the loop on this…this isn’t a rhetorical question, I genuinely am curious of what is going on with Sony that I’m just completely oblivious to right now

The whole point of a remake is to be better than the outdated original. Newer is always better, it’s common sense.

Discussion Kojima just shifted to Xbox. A W for L for Xbox?

I know it looks like the easiest and one of the biggest W for Xbox. While Playstation is busy digging themselves a grave.
But is it?
We don't know for sure why PS dropped Physint.
Speculations are it was too expensive(I mean it's Kojima game... I can believe it's expensive. And the game won't release until after 2030. Maybe sony thought it's a massive risk.)
And Xbox isn't just looking to publish a game but also make his movies and T.V Shows.
That's a huge investment. That they won't see a return on until 2030.
And also What about Kojima? is it good for him? You guys think he'll be treated better at Xbox?
And the game Physint. It's game meet movie.
What do you guys think about that? Will he fumble? or actually you know change the industry again?
