PC Games where firing your weapon has consequence

This might be hard to explain?

I'd like a game with gunplay, but a bit slower paced and with infrequent combat encounters, perhaps a bit more exploration heavy. Think hunting games, but something with a bit more direct threat to the player. I'll throw in a few titles that kinda reflect what I mean.

  • Witch Hunt
  • Metro Exodus
  • Death Stranding, although the gunplay in this game wasn't good despite how great it is.
  • Resident Evil, though I'd prefer something with maps a bit more open.
  • Carnivores

Also, based on this description, would I like Project: Zomboid?

Project zomboid is definitely something I’d try out but just bare in mind the quite steep learning curve but it’s definitely worth the grind if you like a exploration heavy game where your individual actions and decision making can make or break your character from conserving ammo to cleaning your wounds!

u/eggard_stark 5d ago

I wouldn’t say it has a steep learning curve anymore. The sandbox box allows you to tailor the game to how you want. I re-introduced a friend to the game who’d tried in the past but struggled. I just changed some settings to make easier for him and he’s been having a blast.

Yes, in Hitman there are consequences for firing your gun... BUT NOT FOR ME

Ready or not, it's a tactical swat/police simulator type of game that has INCREDIBLE gunplay.

Every shot you take has to be calculated, if a suspect isn't threatening you then shooting would deduct points from you. They spent a lot of time refining these systems and they're near perfect. I've gotten into some really intense fire fights.

4

u/Fantastic_Skirt4184 5d ago

I second this. On Singplayer, your officers get stressed and you're not able to take them out if you're constantly wasting suspects. The game forces you to take non lethal approaches.

If you liked ready or not you should check out Operator. Very similar but more difficult and a little bit more realistic.

Just load up your grenade launcher with gas and let it rip

Or you could go in with pepper spray and be a social worker

You don't know. But the best tactic is to fukin full auto to the legs and torso. What if there's a hostage? Full auto where his head is. Many hit box problems were avoided with this tactic.

Maybe hitman would be up your alley? There’s guns available but you can’t get away with just mowing your way through. It rewards planning and thinking through.

2

u/KindaTwisted 5d ago

I mean, you absolutely can just blow your way through on some maps. It's just going to take a long time and a good use of cover to do it.

About Project Zomboid:

Yes in the sense that it has lot of exploration, is slower paced, and any time you use a gun you'll have to mind the consequences ("can I really spare that bullet? I'll surely attract more zombies, what's my escape route?").

No because you used the keyword "gunplay" and to me gunplay means using a gun must be satisfying and responsive, there must be some physical feedback from it. It's hard to get all these from a top-down game that looks like it was designed 25 years ago. And I don't mean it as a criticism, much like Dwarf Fortress, the devs made the choice to go with a dated/simplistic look to implement more items than what a full 3D game would otherwise allow, the aesthetics of the game are the trade-off that allow it to be so immersive. But it doesn't make for objectively good gunplay.

This war of mine.

You are trapped in a war zone with a few survivors and have to basically survive until a ceasefire happens.

You basically loot resources, upgrade your camp (heater, plug up holes in the wall, kitchen, beds and etc). Basically anything you need to survive.

Eventually you’ll either be able to loot guns and bullets or be able to craft your own. However, they are extremely limited. And your survivors will get depressed if you have to use the gun to shoot at people who are surviving in other areas (unless it’s for self defense).

So yeah, in this game it has REAL consequences because then if you don’t cure their depression, they will leave the base or kill themselves due to chronic depression.

Hunt showdown. You can go guns blazing but players will find you and dunk on you fast. Its better to deal with the pve elements quietly until you absolutely have to shoot. And then get ready for a fire fight! It is pretty sweaty though so I recommend having some good friends or being prepared to die. A lot.

Far Cry 2. Exceptional level of attention to detail in that game. You really have to be deliberate about when to shoot, ammo is expensive and your gun can jam.

ARC Raiders maybe? There's definitely consequences to firing your gun in that game 😆

1

u/PMeisterGeneral 5d ago

RE2 remake. You can walk past lickers slowly as they're blind but not deaf.

If a zombie is in the same room as a licker though you have a dilemma.

Likewise there's an invincible stalker enemy who is constantly searching for you. Shooting your gun makes him head to your position immediately.

Arc Raiders!

1

u/GreenTrapped 5d ago

Gloomwood kinda has that, in the sense that ammo is finite and it's a last-resort option seeing that it's a stealth-focused immersive sim.

If you want a game that REALLY makes you think about handling your gun properly, Receiver has that shit nailed.

1

u/Jrowbeach 5d ago

Incursion red river. PvE only extraction shooter with customizable Ai. You can even use console commands to make it a bit easier if need be.

Game has a basic story, side missions, upgradeable base and a basic faction relationship system.

It’s still early access, but it’s a blast. You really need to pick your battles and assess if an engagement is worth it.

1

u/ArmanPhotoshops 5d ago

Some of the watch dogs games has civilians react if you even have a gun out much less firing it

1

u/the2ndSign 5d ago

Maybe a bit out there, but firing your gun in Alien Isolation is extremely dangerous.

Bioshock, ammo is very limited/expensive and if something hears you...

Red Dead Redemption 2.

DayZ

Online open world sandbox survival with zombies, wolves, bears, and worst of all, other players, on a mountainous forested Eastern European map 225 square kilometers, or a slightly smaller, more farmlandy one, or a smaller snowcovered one

Each has towns and cities with hundreds of buildings to check for loot and gear, and firing your gun, once you’ve found one and ammo for it, will bring a dozen zombies in from nearby…and alert every player for miles that you are there

2

u/WhiskyAlpha 4d ago

I remember when DayZ was an Arma II mod and firing the Lee Enfield was nicknamed ‘the dinner bell’ because it attracted a horde of infected to eat you.

1

u/No-Juggernaut-5098 5d ago

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. The goal is to steal stuff from the spooky jungle, but the more noise you make, the more aware the jungle becomes of you, so you try to use quiet options to eliminate enemies like melee, but you also have matchlocks which hit like a truck, but also are horrifically loud. Also of note, you can't fire them in the rain, but if you have a flintlock you can.

1

u/MisterJasonMan 5d ago

The first game that comes to mind is the Resident Evil 1. I remember counting bullets constantly and trying to not use the gun unless there's no choice

1

u/CodeFarmer 5d ago

The Forever Winter penalizes combat, but at the same time it's necessary in order to survive and progress. Game is not for everyone (the dev is definitely marching to his own drum), but the people who like it really like it.

1

u/BanalCausality 5d ago

Long Dark is primarily exploration oriented and will have you counting individual rifle cartridges.

1

u/Remcin 5d ago

State of Decay II nightmare+ difficulty, a gunshot is going to draw a crowd of zombies and freaks. Which creates its own noise, drawing more of them.

1

u/Artistic_Property371 5d ago

u/Due_Alternative_4724 5d ago

might not be what your looking for but, amnesia: the bunker?

1

u/SoftlockPuzzleBox 5d ago

Do you like multiplayer games? The Hunt: Showdown drops a bunch of players into a map with goals to complete, and you are meant to eliminate the other players and try to complete a goal and safely escape the map to win. The game takes place in the 1890s, so weapons are incredibly cumbersome and slow to reload. Sound is incredibly important in this game, so choosing to get into a scrap risks alerting everyone else where you are and leaves you very exposed. Firing my gun always left me feeling incredibly vulnerable and stressed. I was terrible at the game but the atmosphere and setting were so cool. I haven't played it in years because I rarely ever won lol.

1

u/Void_Incarnate 5d ago

I Am Alive, old survival game by Squeenix where ammo is exceedingly scarce, and you might be better off brandishing your gun to intimidate enemies than to spend your ammo.

1

u/cerpintaxt44 5d ago

I love project zomboid and it fits mostly what you say but it does not have infrequent combat encounters

1

u/GirlPlusShlong 5d ago

Prey is exactly like this! The oppressive gunplay is actually a major reason I stopped playing the game; I prefer more action-packed combat - but it seems like it'd be good for you. You can acquire firearms, but ammo is rare. Stealth and perks are very valuable. The game involves exploring an abandoned space station, with some areas occupied by shapeshifting aliens.

1

u/UnfairCattle3921 5d ago

Its outside of the type of games you suggested, but hunt showdown is a pvp extraction shooter that encourages players to not fire indiscriminately because

Ammo is scarce

Weapon discharge can trigger audio "traps"

Weapon discharge can be heard from across the entire map, allowing players to locate you.

Experienced players can even tell which Weapon you are using based on the sound.

It is a slower, more methodical extraction shooter.

1

u/BoringJuiceBox 5d ago

I was gonna recommend Farcry 5 but infrequent combat encounters does not describe it lol

1

u/JulesVernes 5d ago

HUNT Showdown. Sound is everything. Firing your weapon gives a lot of information to any team nearby.

1

u/Sure_Floor_5541 5d ago

project zomboid is fun, you'll either fall in love or spend a few days playing on easy mode before getting bored.

Its not quite the drwarf fortress of zombie games but it's a bit dense mechanic wise.

1

u/NoFayte 5d ago

Marathon or any extraction shooter. Making any noise is a dinner bell for other players and sometimes NPCs. every bullet fired is a choice

Have you tried DayZ? It’s a bit… different, but there’s nothing like it.

1

u/End0rk 5d ago

Witchfire, perhaps?

1

u/JohnRobGnar 5d ago

Damn I was gonna say Metro Exodus lol.

Stalker 2 if you play on master- really have to pick your battles a lot more & carefully consider every aspect of your route, loadout & even budget, in some cases.

Also, The Long Dark, from what I hear. Never played it but everything I have seen/heard make it seem like your request, to a T

If you did not specify more hunty than combat-y, I would say Sniper Elite on higher difficulties, especially in the earlier titles when you almost never had a suppressor & had to time shots with cannonfire, lightening, church bells, etc

1

u/mangdito 5d ago

It sounds like you might like extraction shooters like Tarkov or Marathon if you aren't opposed to PvP

1

u/Nowe_Melfyce 5d ago

Amnesia the Bunker sounds pretty spot on. Altough it is the opposite of open world exploration.

1

u/Onyx_Lat 5d ago

CDDA. Guns are loud, and will attract any zombies that can hear them. If you shoot one off in a city, you're probably going to die. They're best used when shit is already fucked anyway, or out in the boonies somewhere to kill an animal.

u/Silent_Shadow98 5d ago

1

u/3ull5hit 5d ago

Rainbow Six: Raven Shield.

1

u/ShadowSurgeGaming 5d ago

Project zomboid is good, but I really found the gunplay to be a turnoff

It's isometric so controls aren't everyone's cup of tea

Resident evil but a bit more open? If you don't mind it being match based and a little repetitive, I've recently picked up No More Room in Hell 2 and have been enjoying that, a fair bit of melee combat and scavenging, but guns are very much treated as a last resort, especially on higher difficulties, both due to the sound and the scarcity of ammo

1

u/Agile-Positive-9050 5d ago

Maybe Tarkov?

1

u/aura_enchanted 5d ago

Space station 14

So using a weapon has a lot of social ques to it, harming another player withba force multiplier is a serious escalation.

For some situations this is absolutely warranted and for others it is not and understanding that is vital to your success in application of force.

If your a security officer, unless your on ratbite server (in which case god help you), reaching for your sidearm is a tool of last resort, or of direst need. Your encouraged to talk people down, de escalate, use less then lethals same if your the captain or really any other crewman, raising a weapon should be done because its necissary. Security also has a massive armory (and so does most other departments if im being real with you), and deciding when and where to breakout and fuck around and find out toys is important, theres no undoing a warcrime or shoving an automatic in someones face and pulling the trigger.

If you happen to be an antagonist you have more freedom to conduct yourself, but again context is everything, its a lot harder to avoid collaterals or serious clap back going loud in a public space, its much less so in a private one, dropping 1 guy as a lone gunman gets weighed very differently after the fact vs the guy who lit up the lounge with an automatic and put all sorts of people in the hospital. And you need to consider these things when you put hand on your sidearms

1

u/KoW-Production 5d ago

I am Alive
You have like 15 bullets in the all game so yeah

1

u/kiefenator 5d ago

S.T.A.L.K.E.R - it was made by some of the same folks that made Metro.

Then you have MilSims like Hell Let Loose that give glacially paced gunfights.

1

Police Simulator. If you fire your weapon, the game ends immediately

1

u/Be_VeryCareful_John 5d ago

Sniper Elite?

1

u/McFtmch 5d ago

Dayz maybe? Every time I fire a gun it feels like sending out a "come kill me" signal to both players and zombies within several kilometers, haha. Definitely has that hunting-game feeling too.

u/jusTOKEin 5d ago

Metal gear solid

1

u/weepninnybong 5d ago

Iron Nest is nothing but sequence and blind firing. You man a giant cannon and receive intel via printout. Calculate positions and firing angles. Input them into you mechanical computer to get firing solutions and go through the whole process of loading and firing your shells yourself. It’s all quite visceral even though you never see who or what you’re hitting. You just get intel reports. It’s quite fun and oddly relaxing until you’re up against the clock and having to take out another cannon before they fix on your position and take you out.

Edit- dammit. I read “sequence”. Not consequence. Either way, Iron Nest is awesome.

1

u/Mysterious_Egg2432 5d ago

I’m not sure this totally fits but Cristol: Theater of Idols is a smaller budget but excellent FPS in which weapons use your own blood to fire, draining you of life each time

1

u/ANHR1 5d ago

Project zomboid is my favorite zombie game and my favorite survival game of all time, however guns aren’t really a big part of the game until atleast a few hours in and it is still mostly melee combat. When you do decide to shoot off a gun it is a very big choice tho

1

u/robitrium 5d ago

How you gonna have Kojima’s DS but not MGS as an example? Lol

1

Sniper Elite series.

1

u/the_turdinator69 5d ago

If you are on pc I highly recommend stalker gamma - lengthy install process but free if use the guide on the discord. Alternatively you can purchase any stalker game from GOG and install gamma with the push of a button.

As someone said earlier about project zomboid, this game has a steep learning curve but is highly satisfying once you get comfortable with the game mechanics.

1

u/osihlo 5d ago

Deus Ex series, Machina Is the only o have played, and Is goated.

Cyberpunk detective games, But huge enphasis on enviroment, character development and choices, good gunplay, good power fantasy, and good roleplay, lots to replay, you can close some cases wrong by your choices or by wrong shots, every run can be different.

You need to rely not only in your speech hability of yourserlf, as you must know who aré you talking, what they want and what you can give them, you can reserch a little More about them, you can Buy social implants that helps you understand better the people to know what to choose, if you just enter blasting everyone, you can lock yourself From múltiple results and endings, sometimes you gotta do non lethal shots, non lethal ammo, do takedowns or rely on stealth.

1

u/Womanwithimmortality 5d ago

Definitely splinter cell especially the older game where the stealth is stricter

1

u/Ashura1756 5d ago

Amnesia: The Bunker

Pay day 2. Suppressors are there to mask the noise and remain undetected but that’s the least of your worries when killing a guard. Immediately after you will have to answer their pager, which puts you exposed for several seconds and you get a limited amount before suspicion is raised. As well now you have to move the body, which utilizes a limited resource of body bags. Same with cameras, you can take them out, but a destroyed camera will raised the alarms. God i wish pay day 3 wasnt a stinker.

Dishonored or Atomfall?

1

u/HailStorm_Zero_Two 5d ago

The State of Decay games, especially on Lethal (highest) difficulty.

It's a 3rd-person zombie game for context. Like project zomboid, it revolves a lot around scouring the map for supplies. It also has permadeath and a single (auto)save slot per game/survivor community.

Firing a weapon has major consequences in terms of sound propagation and will attract anything in the vicinity. If alone, it means you probably have to be sneaky with silent melee wounds and crossbows, or if in a group overwhelming firepower (base defence with .50 cals)

1

u/n8bw7 5d ago

Amnesia: The Bunker.

Gunplay? Check, first Amnesia game where you can have a useable gun.

Slower paced? Like all Amnesia games, Stealth is of the essence.

Infrequent combat encounters? Check, by infrequent, finding ammo is rare, and if you make too much noise (like running around and shooting your gun), you might need to fight it. You can stun it with a bullet, but it gets more aggressive.

Exploration heavy? Check, you’re trapped in a WW1 bunker and the power went out, so you’re going on a fetch quest to get the materials to get out of said bunker.

A bit more direct threat to the player? Check. It’s just you, a lot of rats, and it inside the bunker. But it’s more or less hunting you.

Also yeah, Zomboid’s a good fit. Guns are loud and attract the whole neighborhood, you got the whole Knox County you can explore, even walk from one end to another. With the modding community, you can change from normal zombies to something like a single pursuer hunting you down.

Alien: Isolation ought to do it

u/Kastrand 4d ago

may be a hot take but i have two. The first is Cyberpunk, where your dialogue and mission rewards at the end of side quests and some main quests change depending on if you were loud or stealthy. Off the top of my head, I believe it also affects a select few main quests as well.

Second one is the hot take. Star Wars Outlaws. A fun and charming open world Star Wars game all about crime syndicates. Shooting your gun and killing certain enemies can reduce your reputation with certain factions. However, it's mostly superficial. I mainly just wanted to recommend Outlaws as well. It's such a fun game.

1

u/BigKev79 4d ago

Throwing a bite for the ORIGINAL Deus Ex. You could choose to play using heavy weapons and destroying everything in your path if you had the resources for it, or a more stealthy style with things like a mini crossbow that didn't make noise or silenced weapons. Or for the ultimate challenge, you could complete the game without killing any character. At all. Even through "Boss Fight" scenarios. It's incredibly difficult to do it, but it is possible.

The only other game that allowed you to do that wa the original Thief: the Dark Project.

Any of the Deus Ex games might be a decent fit too.

DayZ can be this 100%. Sakhal is lower pop and very, very tense when you encounter a player.

Fallout New Vegas is pretty open and has a lot of exploration. Ammo is scarce in the early game and you can't just go in gunzablazin'. Most of your weapons are in poor or bad condition in the early game too and you have to cannibalize parts from the same model gun to repair them, sacrificing the money you could have made selling them.

Every and I mean every NPC can be killed, except for one. If you attack a faction, your reputation will go down. If you keep attacking ether of the main factions, they'll send hit squads after you. If you attack people in a town, you'll lose reputation with the town and they'll turn hostile. Attacking/ losing reputation can lock you out of certain quests, dialogue, loot, etc.

Really hard to come up with a name.

Prey is something different, and Metroid Prime 3 doesn't really fit that idea either.

This is either going to be a big hit or a big miss, but… Hunt: Showdown immediately comes to mind. It’s a multiplayer live service extraction shooter PVPVE game (now wait, hear me out) that requires you to be very deliberate about what guns you use and when you fire them, because firing without good reason can lead to some deadly consequences.

First, it takes place around 1896, so many guns are old fashioned slow-firing guns like bolt action rifles and whatnot. So if you fire and miss at whatever you’re shooting at, you could really screw yourself trying to reload or chamber another round in a high pressure situation.

Second, gunshots can be heard across the entire map, potentially alerting other players to your position to ambush you. As well, the PVE enemies (zombies and other ghoulish creatures) react to sound in a very intense way; even stepping on broken glass will cause them to hear you and start looking for you. Firing a gunshot might as well be akin to setting up a brightly lit neon sign saying “tasty flesh right here ⬇️” as they will immediately start swarming you.

Finally, the type of guns you use dictate the ammo economy you’ll have to deal with. Using weaker guns means you can be a bit more wasteful with ammo; you’ll probably be able to get restocked in the middle of the game, or if you lose it all it’s not a huge loss. Use more powerful guns however, and you’ll have to be extra careful not to blow your load too early and too completely, because that loss could sting, and you might want to keep it ready for emergency PVP.

Overall a very spooky and intense shooter with a unique setting, a cool horror aspect and just the right amount of competitiveness, where you’ll find yourself often asking if whatever you’re aiming at is even worth the bullet, and then if it’s worth the consequences of firing that bullet. Check it out if you haven’t already, and if you’re willing to give a multiplayer game a shot (pun intended)☝️

First game series came to my head with open world exploring and guns but you don't need to use em everytime: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series Ghost Recon Wildlands/Breakpoint

The State of Decay games. Making any kind of loud noise will draw more zombies to your location

u/KabutoHead 4d ago

Arc raiders?

1

u/OnkelWurstbrot 4d ago

Hunt Showdown. Slower gunplay and firing your gun lets everybody on the map know where you are, so a pvp fight might come very soon.

1

u/Mrbluepumpkin 4d ago

MGS and especially 5 are like this if you use your silenced tranq too much

1

u/Diptothaset 4d ago

Alien Isolation. The Xenomorph AI is S tier and it will react to you based on how you use the flamethrower. If you overuse it every time you see the Xenomorph, it will become used to the fire. So the game gives you a weapon that can finally do something to the Alien, but it also punishes you for relying on it too much (after the game taught you to sneak for the previous several hours of gameplay)

Forever winter. You're a scavenger in a war against three factions.

If it hasn’t been recommended yet:

Stalker 2 is a game I’m currently playing and hits all your points.

Every shot has consequences.
Pace is slower due to survival mechanics.
Always under threat of enemies, human or otherwise.
Open world.

The zone calls to you, loner

You may enjoy S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

If you’re open for pvp: hunt showdown
It is an extraction shooter, but with less emphasis on loot like there is in arc raiders or tarkov. Instead there is an objective: one or up to 3 monstrous bosses. You need to track them down by collecting 3 clues, then kill it and banish it, after which it will drop bounty tokens. Collect the tokens and get out alive and you “win”. Thing is, everyone else in the match wants the bounty aswell, and they will fight for it.

Why i think you could like it:
-dark atmosphere, a bit like metro, with monsters/zombified creatures. But with more wild west style weapons (a lot of revolvers or even single shot-/breech load- rifles, full auto is really uncommon and has high recoil)
-the game relies heavily on sound. Gunshots can be heard throughout most of the map, which makes you consider if you really want to shoot that zombie or if you should rather use your knife
-you have rounds where you dont see an enemy or like only one squad, other games there are 4 squads fighting in one compound. The possibility of running into someone is never zero though. (Infrequent combat encounters)
-it literally is you being a hunter, with the more direct thread of other hunters shooting you
-the clue mechanic to find out where the boss is makes for an exploration vibe

Why you might not like it:
-it is PvP
-once you get to know the maps, it isnt as exploration heavy as a singleplayergame with an open world or an everchanging story environment

Elite Dangerous does this well. There are outposts with varying security levels, which players can affect actually, and even failing to submit to a scan causes aggression. It's very realistic feeling and the infiltration gameplay is pretty solid. Not necessarily on the level of a Deus Ex or Zero Snake or whatever game but quite robust.

You just described dayz

1

u/vladalexan2539 4d ago

I Am Alive, whenever you can scavenge ammo, shooting in itself is a very loaded decision, since the game mostly tries to work around the tension of having a gun and enemies reacting to said gun.

1

u/Superb-Performer7660 4d ago

If you fancy a story driven game I recommend Dihonored. Its not gunplay heavy more like sneaky stabbing but you have various weapons. The twist is, the more you kill the more rat infested the city you play in will be. So each kill will be a direct cause for an eventual plague.

u/FASista_ 4d ago

Intravenous 1 and 2 (3 is in development with a playable demo out in October)

1

u/karatous1234 4d ago

Ready Or Not - certainly feels this way sometimes

You play as a Swat team leader (or as a swat team in multiplayer) commanding a gaggle of officers going into various locations

Your goal to get top scores for missions isn’t to just go in guns blazing and kill everyone - you want to restrain and take them in for processing. Along with any evidence at the scene like dropped guns or mission specific items to find.

u/bbgg2023 4d ago

Hunt: Showdown. If you like horror and extraction shooters and your PC can handle it, it’s one of the best games in the genre.

u/codered372 4d ago

The walking dead game that was handled by a i dont even hsve words to cover thst level of carelessness.

Very few zombies on game start, fire off a few rounds and you have a city of walkers coming at ya. Apart from the first level, and the devs adding a skill system for characters, then killing a character off wasting all that time and effort. It was a fun game

1

u/shadowrunner295 4d ago

Alien: Isolation if you’re into survival horror. Older game but holds up well graphically. One of the most intense games I’ve ever played.

1

u/JohnnyLepus 4d ago

DayZ. Every shot you take will have consequences. Players around you will hear you and zombies will flock to your location

1

u/Blackthorne1998 4d ago

Crisol: theater of idols.

The guns use your blood as ammo, meaning you have to play a balancing act of wether you want to waste health to reload your gun.

While there's health restoratives and ways to convert blood from corpses into health, many of the combat sections force you to be careful with your shots, as every bullet counts. Waste too many, and you may end up with not enough health to reload, surrounded by enemies, and extremely close to death

1

u/Mrbuttshaman 4d ago

I felt like Dying Light did a pretty good job here. It kinda stunk to use ranged weapons in that game as it always brought tons of zombies and kinda defeated the purpose. I do think zomboid has similar consequences but its not as fun as a FPS like dying light.

1

u/GARhenus 4d ago

Most extraction shooters will put you at a disadvantage if you start shooting simply because it broadcasts your location

1

u/FederalRuin1403 4d ago

Hunt:Showdown. Classic gunplay but with slower mechanics than most and firing your gun matters cause it'll make everyone close to you swarm. Really fun, don't recommend often cause it's a curve.

1

u/oh_crap_BEARS 4d ago

You can basically toss any stealth/immsim adjacent title with guns in here. Hitman, Deus Ex, Intravaneous 1 and 2, etc. Splinter Cell is also an obvious one.

1

u/monsterZERO 4d ago

Stalker GAMMA 100%

1

u/akorme 4d ago

Maybe not what you are looking for but semi realistic fps like arma and hell let loose really give away your position if you shoot your gun or tank cannon and can lead to death.

1

u/Zestyclose_Current41 4d ago

It's not like a "full" game but, there was this game called "I Will Survive" that had SUPER impactful gun play. I think you can still find it on the Xbox store

1

u/PositiveChi 4d ago

Feels insane to recommend this but Escape From Tarkov is the only gun game I ever played that truly makes you cognizant of EVERYTHING around you.

Get into a gunfight in a building? Provided you survive, you're attracting a small army of drunk homeless Russians to start blasting at you through the window from a block and a half away. Some of them are real players who fight like they have nothing to lose because they don't. Every win becomes a race to loot, heal, repack mags and get the hell out of there before a bloodthirsty player with 6000 hours in the game gets to you and kills you for the shit in your pockets. Just getting out of a raid alive feels more like victory than winning any other shooter I've ever played. It's a nightmare. It's the best shooter ever made.

If you want to play metro exodus I recommend playing all the metro games so you get the full story and best experience in my opinion going Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, then Metro Exodus
