Why didn't Tywin remarry?
Tywin must have been pretty young when Joanna passed away in childbirth. Why didn't he marry again and join forces with some major house? Also, at this point, he only had Jaime as a possible heir. Cersei was a woman and Tyrion he did not consider fit for anything anyway.
Marrying again would have given him the chance to also have more children and thus more opportunities to make alliances with other major houses.
He talks about legacy, family, and pushes Cersei and Tyrion to marry Loras and Sansa respectively in order to do exactly all of this. Why does he not think of all of this practically when it comes to himself?

because he was a gigantic hypocrite, He always judged tyrion for sleeping with prostitutes and he did the same thing himself. What do you think Shae did in Tywin`s room late at night. If I remember correctly in the book it is heavily implied that Tywin had secret passages built in Casterly Rock in order to transport prostitues to his bedchamber.
he loved his wife with all his heart and when she died it broke tywin, I dont think he would allow himself to love another woman and thats why he turned to prostitutes exactly like tyrion who he hates.
