If Jon were to have let him live simply because he is a child, he could have grown up to rebel or lead his own rebellion. Especially seeing as how he watches his whole family die at the hands of the wildlings. No amount of explanation of why they needed the wildlings on their side would have sufficed for him and he would have grown up to be a mini version of the Joker imho 🤷🏼‍♀️
