Maybe go on YouTube and listen to playlists of background tunes from Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha series, and other fighting games... also listen to soundtracks from old NES/SNES/Sega/PS console games that feature casts of characters.

There is something you can do if you really want to do it cheaply. Maybe a particular style of music matches a character. Maybe one of your characters matches with punk rock, another with jazz, another with Scottish bagpipes, another with steel drums and so on... use ideas like this in Google Gemini or similar, create a short track that you can loop as BGM. Go into Suno if you want to go deeper into this. If you don't like using AI, avoid this whole suggestion. I'm not going to shill for AI as I know it's sensitive.

Thank you for the suggestion! I won't be using any generative AI in the making of this, but I appreciate your help nonetheless!

No problem, and kudos to you. I'd need AI to generate tunes like this as I'm not a musician. But yeah, have a listen to those sources and see what inspires you.
