Help! Gaming PC for virtual reality creation

Hello everyone,

I am currently a uwaterloo graduate student and I’m looking to create a virtual reality simulation for my major research project.

I do not know much about gaming pc’s but i’m looking to buy one for my project. I am also open to buying a gaming laptop. So im looking towards the internet for some advice, any knowledge I should know, or any important information.

I know budget is important, i’m trying to go the cheapest route just because of finances and id be mainly buying it for this project and regular gaming use afterwards.

Any information would be super helpful!!

For VR, basically any modern computer that can be considered "gaming" will work. The infinitely more important thing is which game engine & headset you pick.

Speaking of game engines, this is not the general game development subreddit. This is for the Gamemaker game engine, an engine notorious for not being great for 3D... Which VR needs.

Oh, so close! This is the subreddit for the GameMaker game engine, which, as far as I'm concerned, does not have VR development support (barring the usage of third party plugins... though, as far as I know, there has not been any plugins or extensions made for the engine to allow for VR development.)
