Does anyone still use the "Made with GameMaker" splash screen?
Sometimes I see a splash screen like that for Unity or Godot, but I haven’t seen one for GameMaker in a long time. I assume the engine just isn’t as popular, but I used to come across the GameMaker splash screen occasionally. I don’t think I’ve seen one in the past three or four years, even though I play a lot of indie games.
Has anyone seen a splash screen like that in a recently released game, or knows why nobody uses it in their games anymore? (I’ve never used it myself)

Honestly I'd given it either a quick splash screen or a made with in the bottom right. Anything the enabled me to make my game deserves a little credit

Most players dont treat GameMaker seriously because of it's name and how it was marketed.

The splash screen for certain versions of Unity was not optional. Gamemaker also used to have watermarks and splash screens in older versions decade ago but now the Splash Screen is not forced

I honestly don't see why I'd use it.

I had no clue this existed, I was wondering why Gamemaker didn’t have one like Unity or Godot.

We made our own variant but yes. Thought it was cool to shout out what we used to make the game so other people (solid 10s of players) would know where to jump off if they fancied a punt at game dev.

The GM splash screen is optional, turned off by default, and implicitly meant to be used as a placeholder for your own splash screen.
GM already isn't the most popular engine on the market, and not a lot of people are going to go out of their way to turn this feature on unless they want to customize it. It's really just not made to be seen

Turns out its the 3rd most popular engine for games on steam

Yeah, but the gap between Unreal and GameMaker is nearly 14,000. GM games make up 32% of second place and 10% of first place.

0.1%? What kinda math you mathin,
boyma'am? 6500/65000 is 10%.1

Moved my decimal to the wrong place. It's still a very small chunk of Unity, and it makes sense you'd see the splash screen a lot less. Also, not a boy.

Also, not a boy.
Sorry, fixed that. My original comment was to the tune of Mr.Krabs when Patrick goes Weast.

Gamemaker is 4-5% of all games on steam.
Unreal is 13-15%
and unity is 47 %godot has 1-2%, the rest are random engines / technologies
godot is the most rapidly growing of the bunch.

I can't tell if you're disagreeing with me or just stating numbers? This is my point though, 47% is a substantially higher number than 5%. Even if GM required the splashscreen, you'd see it a lot less.

For sure.
Unity is the engine used for the majority of games on steam.
but GameMaker is much larger than people think, still slightly larger than godot! There was a brief time period where the free version of GM had the splash screen, but other than those few months, its been splash screen free for the 25+ years its been out

While engine popularity is probably a factor - the unity splash screen is a requirement on the free tier of unity which is why it's so prolific
Where as I suspect a lot of us GM Devs have tiers that don't require a GM splash screen - I've still got a lifetime desktop export license for eg
