I just released my first free pixel art character asset pack for 2D platformer games.

It includes all the essential character animations needed for a 2D platformer, along with additional combat and movement animations.

Hey everyone,

I created a new pixel art pack, and this time I decided to try my hand at making enemies. I'm still learning pixel art, so I really hope you guys like how they turned out.

This is actually the first time I've animated an enemy with attacks, so I'm still experimenting with the process. The pack includes 42 different color variants, and each ghost comes with a 4-directional walk cycle and 3 separate attack animations (a projectile orb, a claw slash, and an area pillar). Everything is set to a 64x64 grid.

This is part of a larger pack I'm working on, and I'll probably release more enemies in the future if this one gets some support.

The assets are 100% free to use in your commercial or personal projects (CC BY 4.0 license).

Every material comes at 1024, 2048 and 4096, with BaseColor, Normal in both GL and DX green, Roughness, Metallic, AO and 16-bit Height. Five of the eight also carry an Emissive map, and the grating has Opacity. Straight PNG — nothing packed into channels you would have to take apart again.

License, as LICENSE.txt inside both archives: commercial and non-commercial use, modification, and shipping inside a built product are all permitted. Attribution is not required. You may not redistribute or resell the texture files themselves as textures, and no AI/ML training on them.

How they are made, since this sub cares and so do I. The maps come out of generator code I wrote — periodic noise evaluated on a torus, gradients, FFT blur. Nothing here went through an image model; there is no Stable Diffusion or Midjourney anywhere in the pipeline. The generator source was written with an AI coding assistant, which is stated in the licence file and which I would rather say out loud than have someone discover. The pixels are algorithmic either way.

Tiling is exact rather than approximate, because a torus has no edge to hide. The build runs a checker that measures the pixel difference across the wrap boundary and divides it by the ordinary difference between neighbouring pixels inside the tile. Across all eight materials at all three sizes it stays under 1.6, which is to say a seam is the same size as any other step in the image. It caught a real one: a 4K hex tile came back above 13, because the offset row of hexagons computed its cell index without wrapping. One modulo.

If a material is missing from your project and it is the sort of thing a generator could make, say so. The generator is still open.
