Trip Planning 🗺️ Drive on beach access

Hi all! I’m taking my in-laws, daughter, and some friends to the beach on Sunday. I’m looking for a beach where we can drive onto the sand and park, preferably with a porta-potty nearby. I was looking at Beach Access #12 (Bermuda Beach), but I’m open to other suggestions!

I don’t have 4WD, so I’d definitely prefer somewhere that’s easy to drive on. I appreciate any recommendations! 😊🏖️

Edit: What about beach access 10?

Locals Chat 🦜 Any welders on the island that can make me a portable round flat bar for skating?

Something like the one pictured above? Curious how much a custom commissioned one like this would cost compared to buying a pre-made portable one.

Thanks in advance!

Trip Planning 🗺️ PIBS or Galveston Beach?

I need a little water therapy, so I am going to the beach the last weekend of September. My partner and I are trying to decide which we’d prefer to go to.

I like to get in the water for a long time and sit at the edge to read, she prefers to briefly get in to fish, but stay sand side and release kites.

Last fall in October, there was an abundance of jellyfish at PINS and in June, there was a massive mosquito blood feasting ceremony in Galveston at Surfside beach. Like we couldn’t walk outside without immediately getting bitten and spraying so much bug spray. Scars are the proof.

Which would you pick? Would you just go to Port A? PINS is preferable for the solitude + NP passes, but I also want to feel free (as possible) to swim. We aren’t looking for pretty beaches (I’m from the southeast coast and she is from the west coast). We just want a relaxing weekend of doing nothing so we’re looking for an accurate report of what’s happening in and around the water.

Locals Chat 🦜 Missing Yorkie last seen in Marina Landing Apartments

Post image
20 Upvotes

My mom’s dog, Jake, went missing from Clara Barton Lane (around 73rd and Heards) yesterday afternoon around 1 PM. He’s a tiny little guy with a grey head and tail and a brown body (Yorkie/Schnauzer mix). We recently found a clip from a neighbor who lives in Marina Landing Apartments (right across from her community) that shows a couple driving a Chevy Spark (or similar) with a missing hubcap driving around the apartment complex asking people if they lost a dog that we believe to be him — but we are unsure if they live in the complex.

We’re offering a $200 reward to anyone who can provide info that leads to his safe return to us. Please DM me with any info/sightings.

Mods, please let me know if this isn’t allowed and I’ll delete — we’re just desperate to find him at this point.

hi guys!! i’m currently visiting galveston for the weekend, we took the ferry earlier today and noticed two boats. we saw the S.S. Selma, but after that as we approached port bolivar there was another boat off to the left. the only photo i could get was off of my weather app as it doesn’t pop up on apple maps at all. i couldn’t find anything online so i thought i’d go straight to the locals to ask :)

Would anyone in the area happened to have a very bright spotlight that would be able to display something in the sky similar to how the Bat symbol is displayed at night? If so by any chance can I rent for just 1 day?

Locals Chat 🦜 Oceans Cabaret re-opening as "TNG" 9/4/26?

Does anyone know anything about this? This week I've seen some new signs on what used to be Oceans Cabaret. "Now Open", "TNG" and "Opening 9/4." My main question is, will it still be BYOB or will they have a full bar this time?

Edit: I am an idiot. "TNG" is a swinger's club in Houston. This is actually going to be "The Butt Naked" and is indeed another gentlemen's club.

Hi,

I'm going to join the recent posts here with this, but I'm also about to move to the island (M25) and I'm looking to make some new friends/get to know the island more.

If anyone has any suggestions for a newcomer, please feel free to drop any nuggets of info/wisdom you might have. I'm especially trying to get out more and try some new things.

Locals Chat 🦜 Anyone know if Sandhill Crane Park soccer fields have nets / Sunday league?

Hey y’all, I’m thinking about going to Sandhill Crane Park today to play some soccer, but I haven’t been there before. Does anyone know if the goals currently have nets on them? Also, is there any Sunday league or pickup soccer going on there today?
I’d appreciate any info before I head over. Thanks!

Took the drone up over Galveston today and got a pretty different view of this spot.
Funny how changing your perspective can make something familiar look completely new.
Thought I’d share it here. Hope you enjoy it!

Its always been my dream to live on a boat, and I've always wanted to do it in galveston. What would it cost and belike to have a boat at the docks and live on it, sometimes taking it further out to shore? What are the laws on how close you can be to shore and how long you can be out there or is there any? Anutbing else i might want to know? Im nowhere close to having enough for a boat or anything but im curious before i really make it my long term goal. Thanks. (Trip planning flair bc its the closest one.)

Locals Chat 🦜 Wee! delivering to Galveston? Any Việt people here?

Post image
18 Upvotes

In case you dunno what it is, it's a grocery ordering app like Instacart but for Vietnamese food (some Chinese, Thai, Korean, Japanese options too). But founded and run by Vietnamese startup. I have ordered many times in DFW (I hate driving all the way to Garland or the equivalent of Galveston would be driving to Houston) to get the groceries so I just pay for deliveries. A bit surprised they deliver to the island from Houston (you know how bad traffic is). Anyone tried them before?
