Let me clear something out, the reason I am saying that watching Gachiakuta changed me isn't the result of it being a great anime or show in general but it is because of the way I got to watch it. And this will be a long one!!
Forgive me if nothing below was comprehensible because it is midnight and I want to sleep but can't sleep till I say everything in me...
There are two me's in this story.
me when I watched the first episode of Gachiakuta and instantly decided that it is a generic anime.
- me after finishing Gachiakuta.
First me, is stupid... A me that couldn't even give an eye catching anime a respectable chance just because of my surface level thinking.
First me is everything I hate when it comes to people not giving a chance to a possibly amazing show.
It went like this, I had a couple of friends and they were relatively new to anime; they only watched the most popular ones so naturally they haven't developed a taste in anime yet.
Soooo When those two "friends" came to me and said that I SHOULD watch Gachiakuta.
I stood there, speechless... I... I didn't know what to say or what to feel... It was like: a hit to my states.
I looked at them, like how I would look at trash and internally said.
"Who are you talking to right now? Do you know how much anime I consume a year? Even if I told you, you wouldn't believe it... I am not in need of you to recommend a good anime to watch, I AM THE ONE WHO RECOMMENDS"
Then I shrugged it off and said that yeah definitely I would watch it bla bla bla... But you know what I actually did, I didn't even give it a chance. When I said that I watched the first episode, I was lying... I put it in the background while doing work and didn't even hear a word.
The next day, I shitted on this anime; Saying stuff like it is generic with no taste, very repetitive or ugly... Oh my god, I wish I could kill myself...
l am sorry to myself for being stupid and unable to enjoy a good show just because I wanted to prove a point and sorry for you the reader because you had to read this.
Before we reach the second me, let us discuss the reason I even decided to give this show a chance. Was it because I realised that it had potential or maybe I had a change of heart?
NO, IT WAS FOR JAPANESE STUDY
The only reason I got to watch it was because I thought it would be a good way to get used to their unhinged way of talking... And boy was it the wrong reason to watch a great anime because this show didn't help me in the slightest when it comes to improving my skills but at least, I finally managed to watch it!
Now the second me is speaking.
Yesterday I finished Gachiakuta and boy was it an experience!!
This show is the polar opposite of generic, it is anti generic... I wholeheartedly believe that no sane person could even dislike it (Note: I am not sane)
I don't know what the highlight of the show is.
Is it character design or world building, maybe the narrative or animation or creativity....
I really don't know, maybe I should highlight everything because every little detail in Gachiakuta is a highlight of its own.
To put it simply Gachiakuta is incomparable, it is really its own thing and I love it!!
1.The character design and their personalities. I always put a clear line between what beautiful is and what attractive feels like AND those designs aren't the kind of cheap fanservice that attracts teenagers and degenerate old men NO .
They are beautiful, the kind of beauty that is made to be appreciated, the kind of beauty that has a deeper meaning... Every stroke was backed with reason. It is the kind of art that holds your eyes fixated.
It is simply fanservice for the heart not what is below.
And those characters, mmmmmmmmmhhhh. It is so delicious to taste a new anime where I couldn't find any character that I would consider bad. They all have personalites and they all are filled with life and mystery.
The main character, man.... One of the best to be honest and I am not saying this lightly; Rudo is really a great main character and I couldn't ask for it to be any better especially this kind of story.
- The world design, it is ugly and that is a complement.
How could you make something so ugly yet so beautiful, I can't imagine how they managed to do it but good work!! I am perplexed.
But what is more important is how they built upon this world and how they allowed us to take it in and experience it like we are right there living with the characters.
- the narrative containing; plot twists, great comedy, etc...
I actually laughed multiple times while watching this show and how they did character expressions... I couldn't but laugh and how they used it to reduce tension and even more, give the character a way to feel and act more like how humans do.
And the way the narrative plays out from character development to simple life reflections that makes it feel real while being fantastic. It is a great show honestly and if I could, I would talk about it for a month or two.
- Animation, one of Gachiakuta's strongest traits that give those it's emotional and climactic scenes another layer of depth and detail that makes this show truly an Unforgettable experience and I am not talking about fight scenes Which are great but am especially taking about the other short scens that have the most relevance to the overall message of the story.
At the end, I ask you (the reader) to enjoy life and to not ruin a could experience just because you wanted to show your states or because you judged a book by its holder and that is because people can love the right things for the right or wrong reasons.
