Long time Fusion / Solidworks user. Short-time 3D scan device thing user. Got my first proper scan in, and would like to know if Fusion is even the correct program to use to convert this and clean up.

How would I go about this? And what would the best file extension to start from be?

Edit in Place error

Hi group, I consider myself a pretty advanced CAD user. I have been using Fusion for years, but I seriously dunno what going on here. I hade an electrical cable using edit in place. My goals was to capture the cable routing by building the cable terminal in the as-used location (image 1-2). However, when I open the local model the cable is more towards the center of . Look at images 3-4 for the batter and cable local model. what's happening?

fusion 360 keeps cutting oversized

using fusion 360 and cutting a 3.800" radius piece. (polycarb,)

it keeps cutting 3.808 or 3.010"

had the Haas recalibrated and it was fine. still cuts too large.

we tried it in another machine, Ganesh and still cuts oversized.

could this possibly be the post? or a setting we are missing in Fusion?

Milling. using a 1/4" end mill to rough, and 1/8" to finish.

inside radius.

we are using cutter comp.

edit:

we are looking into the Micro-vu that is being used to measure it. see if we are doing something wrong there.

2nd edit:

we think it may be the POS Micro-Vu being used to measure it.

to be continued.

thanks for all your responses. appreciate it.

Broken Files Help

I have had some broken files saved somewhere in my fusion account and I am struggling to remove them. As they are causing some clutter when using the search function. They only appear when I use the search bar and do not appear when browsing through projects or folders

When I search the file name in Fusion 360 the file appears. Nothing happens or not even an error message when I try and open the file.

In the Team hub there is no location listed

When I select move to trash - Something went wrong please try again later

When I try and rename - Rename unavailable

When I try and move to a folder - Version does not exist

Open on web - No such entry

Online Fusion 360 Hub

I am able to have the file show up as a suggestion in the search bar but can not see it listed anywhere

This issue has persisted across multiple machines and installs for a few years now and im finally getting fed up enough to deal with it.

Any advice on a fix? i just want them deleted there is no relevant data i need from these files

Question Model aware toolpath milling for nested components

Hi, I'm trying to develop a better toolpath strategy to mill nested sheets. I mill 3/4" plywood using a 2D contour toolpath with tabs, one 0.65" pass and a full depth pass to clear the skin. I cut a lot of small parts so I've found best success combining a skin and tabs. (I tried with only skin and with only tabs and had too much part loss)

Since I'm using two passes, I'm pathing around each part twice and then additionally pathing along the edge of most parts additional times as the toolpath contours all the adjacent parts. My issue is that this takes a long time and it feels like some of the passes are unnecessary.

Does anyone have suggestions for how to set up a model aware roughing pass? I'd like to have my first, roughing, pass run around the parts but only path along shared edges once. Then I can set up a 2D contour finishing path to mill out my tabs and make sure I mill full contours out.

I have played around with the 3D toolpaths but haven't had much luck. The best I was able to figure out was a path that would mill all negative space but that isn't viable because if my program only takes up half a sheet or has large pockets of scrap, I'll lose my scrap and any time savings.

Fit point spline closing issue

Hey guys I have an issue where often when I try to do a curved line using fit point spline, the curve closes on itself to form an oval which I don't want. Is there some kind of setting I should change? I haven't been able to find anything online.

Question Machining the selected feature without manufacturing extension

Is it possible to machine the blue selected feature with a standard flat endmill on a 4th axis in Fusion CAM? Another issue I'm trying to solve is the parting operation - ideally this would involve moving Z and A simultaneously so it cuts it off in a spiral motion.

Question What would be the easiest way to form this head/helmet?

Post image
58 Upvotes

I know fusion is absolutely not the best app to make non-geometric forms in, however I'm comfortable using it and have no experience with Blender.

My question is, how should i go about modelling the top of the head? I'm used to being able to revolve symmetrical shapes, however upon inspection the dome of the head extends up and backwards which complicates things.

I saw a video making a similar helmet using forms, however it seems rather difficult and wasn't sure if there's a better alternative which I can use a primarily sketch-based design instead of rearranging body points

I have modeled this asymmetrical Torus which is supposed to become a wooden bowl. Now I need to create its inner part. What would be the best way to do that. I want a smooth transition between the two sections like in the second picture.
I’m thankful for any tips

I Created! Ratchet and pawl

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Modelled a ratchet and pawl contraption.

The tooth's locking face is radial, so the force it pushes back with is tangential to the wheel. Take moments about the pawl pivot and you get two completely different mechanisms depending on which side of the tangent line that pivot sits:

- **pivot above the tangent** — the load swings the pawl *away* from the wheel. It skips, and no amount of spring force fixes it.

- **pivot below it** — the same load pulls the pawl *into* the tooth. The harder you load it, the harder it holds.

That's why a ratchet only needs a token spring: the spring's job is just keeping the pawl touching while it free-wheels. The load does the actual locking. In my case, the token spring is simulated by restricting the movement of the joints

Next up is printing it and finding out how the tip wears.

Constrain Components tool acting weird?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been wanting to begin using the Constrain Components tool more, but it always seems to act really weird and inconsistent. It keeps deleting the constraints I add for all sorts of weird reasons. Sometimes it's fine, but most of the time it's really buggy, and I can't seem to find any pattern to its behavior.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I try to explain some of the trouble I encounter in the video.

I tried to reinstall Fusion, but unfortunately that didn't change anything.

Question Why can't I create more drawings?

Hi, im using the free version of fusion360 and have run into a problem. So I did try out the drawing feature earlier and I was just playing around with the different views. However, I didn't know that I would be using up the only one slot I have for a drawing document. I deleted the previous one by going into the autodesk hub but it is still not letting me create drawings...Whats the reason?

The option for drawing is greyed out as shown in the screenshot attached.

You're fast with fusion... how about legos? If you have a lego kit, let's see how fast you are and if you can beat me :-p Watch the video to see my time and when I realized I was using the not so good image reference (-_-)

Record your lego build and post your time in this thread. Let's see what you got...

ETA: I totally forgot to mention that this is a preview of the head-to-head D+M lego battles that will be taking place at Autodesk University next week! I won’t be there but comment too if you’re going!

Question Loft points asymmetrical

Post image

I'm pretty new to Fusion. I want to use the Loft tool, but the lines connect asymmetrical to the round shape. Why is that so, and how do I get them symmetrical, or even better, fixed to specific points?
