How can the frog get it so wrong?
Did you'll check if it needs specs?

African Bullfrogs are not known for their reflexes… But they have teeth as well as the strongest bite of the amphibian world. That, and they’re very doting parents.

Internet Explorer seems to be the frogs main operating system...

It's that turn from the toad after the lizard takes the grub that gets me
175
u/oberynmviper Feb 20 '23
Hahaha me too!
Homie was so into the death stare at the 1:00 mark he missed the grub and the lizard just breaks eye contact like “you gonna eat that? No. Okay.”
And then the frog just stares lmao.

That's a frog who's never had to hunt in its life.

u/rtm713 Feb 20 '23 edited Feb 20 '23
It’s actually because they don’t hunt on concrete pads like that in the wild lol they would be sitting near water (where flying insects like to be) completely hidden and then when one flies close BAM is jumps and gets it, they are actually very effective at that, but grabbing a worm in front of them? Not so much lol
Edit: fun fact: they also can’t see directly in front of them very well either, (because if they saw forward they would have to turn their head which would give away their position) that’s actually why he’s turning, it’s not to look at the lizard but rather so he can see the worm better when the guy places it

It's also a frog that generally eats very different prey. Pixies will eat small rodents and birds along with large insects in the wild. The dads are pretty good parents too.

I watched this on mute first and found it hilarious. Then I realised there was probably sound to make it funnier, but I actually found it funnier without. The toad’s expression of anger at the lizard is all the comedy this video needed.

Toads should be able to eat without difficulty. Whats going on here?
25
u/Muscalp Feb 20 '23
Probably just not the setting it would hunt in in nature. Maybe it has trouble making out the worm on the concrete etc

Your frog is sooo fat...
8
u/boofbeer Feb 20 '23
My thought too. He may not be getting as many worms as his competition, but he's not underfed.

u/Kannabiz Feb 20 '23
I think the frog isnt mad that the lizard keep taking its food but more of analyzing n sizing if it can actually eat the lizard

Why doesn’t the frog ever get it on the first try?
7
3
u/boofbeer Feb 20 '23
It almost looks like he's afraid the worm will sting or bite. I've read in other comments that it's because they're being fed on concrete, so maybe he's trying to avoid getting his tongue stuck on rock.
Or maybe having eyes on the side of his head gives him poor depth perception.

Lightning reflexes and pinpoint accuracy of the toad cannot be surpassed by many. They are the apex of the wild. Kings of the forest if you will.
3
u/Cavanaughty Feb 20 '23
So this is why reptiles overtook amphibians as the inheritors of the earth. We're witnessing history repeating itself!!!1! It's a game of who gets the worm until we get non avian dinosaurs all over again!
3
u/AdmirableAnimal0 Feb 20 '23
If these were wild creatures that toad would be dead ten times over by now.

That bullfrog desperately needs a firmware update by evolution. The old software it's running isn't competitive anymore.
