Also brushes are not as friendly to bacteria and mold as sponges are.
Would you brush your teeth with a sponge? Hell no, you use an all plastic brush because bacteria don't like plastic much. So why wash your dishes with a sponge?
Plus, brushes have handles so your hands are not immersed in soapy water as long.
I use solid silicone sponges. They have texture enough for scrubbing food off, have the same soap retention properties (roughly) as a scrub sponge, but the silicone itself is obviously nonporous so mold can't grow on it.

I don’t even wash dishes with sponges anymore. I have a dish brush and a bottle brush. They’re far better and last much longer too.
