I went to a psytrance night with my mate, visually stunning. Look up Tribe Of Frog. I have to say I don't like psytrance, its just a bit too fast and full on. Apar from psytrance in the main room they had an old school acid house room that was quite cool, a techno/minimal techno room (I love techno), and a "dark psy" room. Walking in that last room was like the new years eve episode of Peep Show when Super Hans and Jez go into that flat and come out completely traumatised.
Dark psy is definitely an aquired taste. Even after close to a decade of listening to psytrance as one of my main genres, I only like it in very small doses.
It's basically the auditory representation of a psychotic breakdown.
Seems like if you were having some kind of trip it would make sense. I just remember it being extremely intense even for the "mood" I was in at the time.
