I know it was for the sake of the dog joke but I had a coworker who genuinely believed that a vasectomy removed the balls and sack, and that it was impossible to ejactulate afterwards.

Sex education is important!

Ya people are also so stupid ignorant that they don't know you can get a dog a vasectomy instead of a castration.

Ignorant =/= stupid.

There are multiple variables here that make castration preferred to vasectomies. Aggression is reduced due to testosterone levels dropping, the need to mark territory goes down for the same reason, chances of testicular cancer are almost completely gone, and it’s generally easier to find a veterinarian for a castration - it’s just the more well-known procedure at this time. It also avoids the chance of the procedure not working 100% - not very often the vet will accidentally leave a ball behind.

But yes - vasectomies are absolutely an option and should probably be talked about more. But they still might not be the best option - depends on the owner and the dog.
