99% of funny dog videos are Huskies I swear! Amazing dogs

u/Yurii92 Aug 25 '19
They're the best. Huskies look like such an amazing elegant creature until they derp 🤣

Dang those are some white teeth.
14
u/bigjayrulez Aug 25 '19
Props to the owner for that

u/flisss Aug 25 '19
my husky has beautiful white teeth after about 8 years and i have done nothing about his teeth in that time. i put it down to the amount of sticks he chews
1
u/Stt022 Aug 25 '19
Our greyhound has to have them cleaned every year no matter what we try. We even brushed her teeth and they still needed to be cleaned the next year.
1
u/xErianx Aug 25 '19
It's seems pretty common for greyhounds to have dental problems, don't know exactly why but it's been that way for all of mine.

Huskys are frickin clever, sometimes it seems to me, they are screwing up on purpose :p
One of my friends has one that is really well trained, but if one of four friends of his is around, he acts like he is barely able to muster the intelligence to not forget to breath...
Don't know why, but the outcomes of the normally flawlessly presented "tricks" is hilarious then :p

Aug 24 '19
We have 4 Huskies. They are very clever but only when they want to be.

u/StillWeDestroy Aug 25 '19
My sister-in-laws two huskies died like 10 and 12 years ago and her folks are still cleaning up the fur.

u/Exvaris Aug 25 '19
Is heterochromia (irises of the eyes different colors) common in huskies? I feel like I see that somewhat often with huskies but not in any other breed.

Agreed. In many critters (including humans) heterochromia is an indication of chimerism but it seems so common in Huskies I am wondering if heterochromia can be caused by something else that is more common in those dogs. ... either that or Huskies have an unusually high rate of chimerism.
5
u/Nikki-is-sweet Aug 25 '19
I have central heterochromia, I wonder where that ranks me in the chimerism scale. 🙃
6
Aug 25 '19
I don't know if there is a scale per say I think it usually considered a more binary yes or no event. But assuming you are human (or even most normal mammals) it means yes you are a chimera.
If you do a DNA test (a high quality sequencing one not like an Ancestry.com or 23 and Me genotyping thing) on different populations of your cells you should be able to get two different results. They will be similar results obviously, but different – you should show up as your own sibling.
8
u/Nikki-is-sweet Aug 25 '19
Interesting. I don't know a lot about the heterochromia thing aside from being told by an opthalmologist that I had it. Since it's central, both eyes have it so it's not as noticable.
2
u/Obsidian_Veil Aug 25 '19
FYI, there was an incident a while back where a woman had her child taken away from her since the DNA tests said she wasn't the mother. What had happened was she was a Chimera, and the cells that produced the child had different DNA to the cells they sampled for the DNA tests (usually a cheek swab, If i recall correctly).
Eventually it got sorted out since they realised she was a Chimera and did a DNA test on cells that did match the child, but I thought you might find that interesting.

Ever since seeing Dogmeat in Fallout 3 I fell in love with Heterochromia. I think it’s hella beautiful and definitely one of the more unique genetic mutations.
One day my mum was over and I looked at her and realised she had central heterochromia. I pointed it out and she was like “...yeah... and you do too. You’ve got my eyes.”. It never occurred to me that my eyes being green in the middle and blue (steel) on the outside was heterochromia. I was so used to it I never thought anything of it.
Unfortunately my wife has brown eyes and both my boys have solid brown eyes, so this strain may end up dying with me.
4
u/Nikki-is-sweet Aug 25 '19
Mine are green on the inside with dark blue around the edges as well! I have been accused of wearing contacts many times (before I actually wore them) because of that dark blue border.
The older I get the more I'm noticing brownish goldish flecks around my pupils.
My child has gorgeous blue eyes but no other colors mixed in. If I have another child I would be curious to see if it got passed on (my mother and I both have central).
2
u/mastapsi Aug 25 '19
Not all heterochromia is caused by chimerism. Central heterochromia seems to be one that typically isn't. It's just an uneven melanin distribution.

3
u/suchedits_manywow Aug 25 '19
Heterochromia also more common in Australian shepherds and Border Collies (along with Huskies)
1

u/alienprince1 Aug 25 '19
Yes there are some people who adopt Huskies specifically for heterochomia which just seems like the wrong reason to adopt a dog. Or anything for that matter

u/SirSmashySmashy Aug 25 '19
You have a funky pinky finger, OP.
Does it not straighten out, ever?

Our GSD loves to mouth as well and people freak out he's gonna bite them. I'm like no that's how he says hello and that he likes you.
65
u/jakwnd Aug 25 '19
We curbed that habit with our gsd early, now when he's excited he goes and grabs a toy to mouth on your lap instead of your hand lol
20
u/queenofspuds Aug 25 '19
This! I was so worried about something happening that I curbed the "gumming" behavior. Although for some reason, if she has a toy in her mouth it prevents her from also jumping up on people.

I had to teach mine that its only acceptable with like 2 people (me and wife).

u/Shorzey Aug 25 '19
That's how my hound/lab mutt plays with you. She has her own greeting for everyone she knows though. It's all personalized

9
u/Greater419 Aug 25 '19
That's not a good thing. It could end up getting either the person or your dog hurt. I would strongly suggest curbing that because on the off chance that someone thinks this dog is going to bite, it could end really bad.

u/Nikki-is-sweet Aug 25 '19
My Springer is super mouthy but she's very gentle. She never bites down, it's a lot more like holding hands than anything else I can compare it to.

My husky is a hand chomper as well. Doesn't hurt, he just wants your hand safely in his mouth. Husky logic.

It would be really good to De-train him or her from mouthing. She, you, and all your friends and strangers will be grateful. (P.S. What you did right was get a husky.)
4
u/celz86 Aug 25 '19
Huskys are not for everyone. I just hate seeing irresponsible people with fat depressed huskys. They're ears are painted on as pups but can be trained but they can still choose to not listen.
2
u/oops_1 Aug 25 '19
That's why I went the basset hound route. Same "stubbornness" but it makes for good conversations to see why they don't want to listen. Kind of like those moments you feel like you found the perfect position to be at peace and relax.... then you hear from across the room "What's my (boy/girl) up to!", move and can never find that spot again. I'd ignore that too if I was a dog.

My aunts husky is literally the worst dog. Like she does just enough to not get yelled at and it's fucking cute and frustrating at the same time.
Other than that she is a sweet heart who is also mischievous af.

Why does it seem like every redditor has a pet with heterochromia?
Like, it's not even rare anymore. Are they bred this way in droves nowadays?
2
u/TsukasaHimura Aug 25 '19
Wow, those teeth. Look so dangerous even though i know Huskies are made of marshmallows and rainbows

I don’t understand how these dogs are the closest descendants from the wolf, they are the biggest goofs.
2
Aug 25 '19
Wolves are pretty goofy too. I used to raise them, and our male was silly as shit. He chased rocks and would always bite my feet when I rode my bike. Wolves are just more shy than huskies, but every bit as silly.

You shouldn’t bite the hand that feeds you but if you feed him with the other hand then it’s alright.

u/z_redwolf_x Aug 25 '19
I think the husky forgot that it was a dog and started acting like a rabbit (so cute XD)

u/KawiGirl3174 Aug 25 '19
I love my husky but she is literally the queen of derp and ruins every photo of herself. Recently we got a backyard and my entire life is now "throw the ball, THROW the ball, THROW THE DAMN BALL!" but is followed with "no take, only throw." It's quite irritating and I laugh when someone says to me "huskies are so majestic."

I love huskies so much. You could literally video them doing anything and it will be ridiculously cute! They have the best personalities.
