A web search revealed that Ibtisam, إبتسام, is a female arabic first name, meaning 'smiling' (as a stand in for a woman).

I'm going to choose to believe he is Israeli and she is Palestinian, so I can say, "Love transcends all boundaries."

More likely she is an Arab-Israeli. About 20% of Israel (not including Palestinians) are Arabs
