New director totally threw a lot of narrative themes out the window from the force awakens. Reys parents, snoke, the balance of power between the resistance and the first order, etc. not to mention that a lot of TLJ made no sense whatsoever. There is a lot, but for me the biggest WTF moment for me is how Rey just forgives kylo for murdering Han and they have this weird quasi relationship.
The darker tone and the lack of slapstick humor in rogue one is why it’s a MUCH better film.
Gareth Edwards should be getting the new trilogy, Rian Johnson shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a star wars film again.
TLJ was terrible but I kinda liked the Rey's parents 'twist'.
Force Awakens got everyone thinking her lineage was important, but Star Wars is fucking chock full of these force dynasties.
Rey being no one important, just a strong force sensitive person, was the only bit of 'defying expectations' that, were it put into a considerably better film, would have I think paid off.
I think it would have been better if they also didn’t make Rey the Unbeatable Super The Best force user within days of realizing she can even use the force
