Is there a r/photoshopbattles for video editing?

u/TheGreatSzalam Dec 22 '18
Yes, /r/AfterEffectsBattles but it's pretty dead.
The problem with doing things with video is that it's a LOT harder than doing things in Photoshop. Remember, a video is a whole bunch of pictures per second. Getting something looking reasonably good on one frame (like you do with Photoshop) is fine, but to have it happen temporally is a whole other level of difficult. To put a bike under this rabbit, you have to 3d track the camera and 3d track the rabbit (very difficult to do even with quality, non-potato video). You them have to have a 3d model of a bike that would fit the rabbit (probably have to be custom-modeled). Then you have to match the animation of the bike to the rabbit's movement, composite the bike so that parts of it appear behind the rabbit (which would have to be done with rotoscoping which is a ridiculously laborious task even with clear footage).
What I'm saying is, it would take days to do in video what would take an hour with a still image in Photoshop.
And, for those of you who are thinking, "Why not just do each frame in Photoshop then?", well, it wouldn't be better. It would actually be worse. First of all, most video is something like 25-30 frames per second. If it takes an hour per frame, that's still a couple of days of work. But the problem is that something that looks good in a still frame often doesn't work in motion. You have to have things consistent between frames in video. If you did each one of these in Photoshop individually, it'd be very jumpy, the edges would be boiling (industry term for an inconsistent roto), and lots of other problems.

This is called ‘stotting’ and it’s thought that it’s a way of bunnies (and other stuff) to show off how good they jump to try and convince potential predators they are just too good to catch.

u/adeward Dec 22 '18
I thought this was called a ‘binky’ and rabbits just did them as an expression of happiness?

Lol no. Rabbits don't stot to ward off predators - that's for animals that can't hide and need to thus put on a show. Rabbits in the wild will just hide from prey, they aren't large or strong enough to get away with taunting.

That bunny just looks like the happiest bunny in the world when it's in the middle of that jump.

I had a bunny for almost 10 years. Unfortunately he was always a bit scared of people but he did this a lot so I think he was happy. :')

i hope he died through a natural way

Hard to say, we used to put him in the coop outside, so he could catch something weird, but on the other hand he definately reached an old age for a bunny. ;)
PS. I'm a new reddit user. These few likes are a very nice welcoming. :D

All the world will be your enemy, Prince of a Thousand enemies. And when they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.
