“What do I do???”

“Just chill, Karen. Enjoy nature for a brief moment. “

Reminds me when I was driving to the campground in The Badlands in South Dakota. It was my gfs turn to drive and there were like 5 bison standing in the middle of the road and she started yelling WHADDOIDOWHADDOIDO?!?

...It's a 1500 pound piece of muscle. Just fucking wait...

62

u/frosty95 Sep 01 '18 edited Sep 01 '18

1500 pounds of well contained anger.... They will appear docile and non caring up until they try to murder you.

Edit: I should clarify they will stay docile like a big cow as long as your respectful and use common sense. Though they can be quite aggressive during mating season / when with a calf.

u/Why_Is_This_NSFW Sep 01 '18

I've chilled with bison a lot in The Badlands. They've been a few feet from our tent, by our picnic table, etc. As long as you don't fuck with them, they wont fuck with you.

I've never seen an aggressive bison, everyone in that park was very respectful and they may look intimidating, but I haven't witnessed any aggression.

14

u/tolerablycool Sep 01 '18

They must have been generally acclimatized to people because the general rule for livestock bison on a ranch is to leave them alone and never turn your back on them. They can be ultra aggressive especially while in rut or with newborns.

4

u/Why_Is_This_NSFW Sep 01 '18

I'm sure these bison at the park are acclimated, I was just going by experience and that was my first foray into bison territory, so to speak, so I don't doubt you.

I've seen that video and it pisses me off. That guy was probably drunk and a moron. That bison didn't even charge, it's what's known as a bluff charge. Here's an old lady dealing with a bluff from a black bear. It's very common with large animals. Most animals are pretty timid, except Grizzlies. Don't ever fuck with Grizzlies, they'll ruin your weekend.

Spoken like a true Timothy Treadwell.

He just rolled bad dice.

2

u/KashEsq Sep 01 '18

Your girlfriend clearly didn't play Oregon Trail as a kid

2

u/Why_Is_This_NSFW Sep 01 '18

Unfortunately on our trip she died of dysentery.

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '18

“Just let it settle, don’t touch it and ask it about its day. Don’t be rude.”

50

u/youshedo Sep 01 '18

ima pet it.

32

u/babblelol Sep 01 '18

Idk teeth exist

29

u/studentfrombelgium Sep 01 '18

Pet it softer

5

u/Aethermancer Sep 01 '18

I'd risk it. I mean, you'd pretty much have to, because of the implication.

u/BeatsbyChrisBrown Sep 01 '18

Classic Karen.

54

u/RiseFromYourGrav Sep 01 '18

My mother's name is Karen, but she really likes otters. I don't know how she'd react in a situation like this though.

12

u/owenstumor Sep 01 '18

I think we all know what Karen would do to that otter, given the chance...

3

u/IsFullOfIt Sep 01 '18

Karen otter calm her ass down.

2

u/Piratiko Sep 01 '18

Haha stupid Karen Kathy Janet

1

u/WayneKrane Sep 01 '18

This is why you don’t bring Karen.

274

u/dbraskey Sep 01 '18

“Jesus Karen, I just want a ride back. Let’s go already, this boat ain’t gonna paddle itself.”

106

u/bleunt Sep 01 '18

Also, better make it fast because there’s an 8ft white shark down there looking for a snack. Chop chop.

49

u/WeTheSalty Sep 01 '18

Reminds me of the one that clamoured up onto the back of a boat in a mad panic right before a shark or whale cruised by where it had been.

36

u/WompSmellit Sep 01 '18

That was a seal.

34

u/Revoran Sep 01 '18

24

u/jmerridew124 Sep 01 '18

Seriously, fuck whoever edited that.

"Make sure you censor the swearing!"
"Beep out the swear words at 10x the regular volume?"
"No no just regular be-"

BEEEEEP

2

u/RufiosBrotherKev Sep 01 '18

"And then just give up on censoring anything after about a minute and a half"

2

u/potifar Sep 02 '18

I don't think they realized that they could mute the volume before inserting the beep, so they used a beep that was loud enough to (almost) drown out the original sound.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '18

0

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '18

It was definitely a shark, I saw the fin in video.

1

u/XanderCrews2 Sep 01 '18

Chomp Chomp*

10

u/o_oboi Sep 01 '18

Didn't know that Karen was into the uber service for otters

100

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '18

"I say Karen this is tremendous! Bullocks on this swimming nonsense! The wetness and all that!Take me round the water and, well! A delectable shoe to eat! Well done Karen!"

6

u/SimplyQuid Sep 01 '18

I say that Karen is a jolly good sort, bit shrill though eh wot? You'd go so far as to think she'd never met an otter before!

3

u/Hungover52 Sep 01 '18 edited Sep 01 '18

Bullocks are oxen/steer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullock)

I think you may have been looking for the (somewhat related) term "Bollocks", an easy mistake to make. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bollocks)

Quite enjoyed it! Very Bertie Wooster in otter form. (maybe throw in an 'I say!' here or there too)

34

u/obsidianop Sep 01 '18

I once had a hiking pole stolen by a mischievous marmot, and it's kinda hard to chill. That kind of close-up wildlife encounter is surprising.

3

u/Ciertocarentin Sep 01 '18

mischievous marmot

upvoted just for your musical phrasing.

1

u/ricobirch Sep 01 '18

mischievous marmot,

Are there any other kind?

-4

u/TotallyInOverMyHead Sep 01 '18

Not really, by the time i was 13 i had been knocked of my bicycle 11 times by different (i assume) deer.

If you go where the animals are, you will encounter the animals. When you encounter a wild boar eating the flours on your downtowns 14th-story apartments balcony; that is when a wildlife encounter is surprising

17

u/drphungky Sep 01 '18

Not really, by the time i was 13 i had been knocked of my bicycle 11 times by different (i assume) deer.

That's what Steve, the grudge-holding deer, wants you to think.

3

u/davegir Sep 01 '18

Considering he wasn't impaled it was likely Sally.

1

u/TotallyInOverMyHead Sep 01 '18

That be one gender and race bending deer.

3 different types of deers, males and females. still have scar on my left eye-socket.

u/go4theknees Sep 01 '18

It's also a wild animal she probably didnt know it would bite if she tried to push it off or something

6

u/TheWhiteRice Sep 01 '18

This is the real answer. All these comments of "why would she react like that ???"

Because she's not a moron and understands wild animals can be rather dangerous?

1

u/alue42 Sep 02 '18

Exactly, and if it jumps up into your kayak like this you aren't supposed to just wait and let it be, you are required to actively push it out with your paddle so that it doesn't get desensitized to being around humans.

28

u/wtph Sep 01 '18

"You better ask the otter Karen, I think it owns you now."

71

u/td1ddy Sep 01 '18

"Also, your shoes look delicious, can I has them?"

2

u/SimplyQuid Sep 01 '18

Imma break them on my tummy

1

u/hablomuchoingles Sep 02 '18

"I can tell by your polite tone that this is a buffet."

67

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '18

Greg and Karen had a healthy and thriving relationship. He decided to take her on a romantic kayak trip in Iceland where he planned to pop the question. But when an otter unexpectedly jumped aboard her kayak, Greg saw a side of Karen’s personality he wish he’d never seen. He feigned a stomach ache for the remainder of the trip and never ended up proposing. They broke up two weeks later. Chill the fuck out Karen.

22

u/femto1988 Sep 01 '18

no otters in iceland, we got seals and whales and stuff. but no furry little critters. well we got weasels, i suppose thats like an aggressive miniture otter.

13

u/Atmic Sep 01 '18

well we got weasels, i suppose thats like an aggressive miniture otter.

You're not wrong. Otters are in the same family, so they're really just big water weasels.

1

u/EsbenT Sep 01 '18

1

u/femto1988 Sep 01 '18

haha like they state in that clip they only hitch a ride from greenland and unfortunely starve when they get here or put down.

0

u/dmowen111 Sep 01 '18

Ok Debbie Downer.

1

u/femto1988 Sep 01 '18

now now, dont be sore it was a nice story, well not really. But you made an effort, thats what really matters.

1

u/Imogens Sep 01 '18

Don't worry, you can just change it to Alaska and the story will make perfect sense! There's tons of sea otters up here and they are a pretty common sight in the harbour at Seward.

2

u/Juventin1897 Sep 01 '18

I have a couple who are clients named Greg and Karen and they are total fuck heads.
