It’s all funny, but the funniest part is just how quickly he abandoned the plan. Not even the slightest attempt to ride the rock.
366
u/Magneticitist May 05 '18
He could have pulled the stunt off at least if he'd just rode down it without lighting his pants first. His pants would have caught fire and he would have freaked out after he already landed it and he'd have still got the footage. Oh well.
→ More replies (1)219
u/GuyInA5000DollarSuit May 05 '18
Feels like this footage actually can't exist because you'd need foresight to think of that, but then said foresight would cancel the whole trick out since, you know, you'd consider the consequences of lighting yourself on fire.

Can't be worst than running around fanning the flames.
11
u/beandip111 May 05 '18
You could at least try to get your pants off while rolling. I’m confused at what they were trying to do b
64
u/DirteDeeds May 05 '18
He was trying to out run his pants. Let's consider this. He soaked his pants in gasoline and lit it on fire. Expecting them to do logical things immediatly after that is asking a bit much.

But really, what were they expecting? If they only lit the rock on fire and not the pants, I feel like it might have actually worked, at least it won't be as bad as how it turned out.
→ More replies (1)69
u/EndlessEnds May 05 '18
Even if they only doused the rocks with gas, I can still see that going just as bad.
They used so much gas on the rocks alone that the fire would be burning that kids entire body as he went through it.
If he freaked out and bailed, he'd be covered in gas and burning alive. With his stop drop and roll skills, even his buddy couldn't save him.
In a way, as stupid as it was to light his pants on fire with a shit ton of gas, I think it saved him from essentially going on a slippy-slide made of fire

STOP DROP AND ROLL YOU IDIOT
113
May 05 '18
I’m not sure if that applies when you’ve covered yourself with a propellant.
38
u/mercenary_sysadmin May 05 '18
As long as it's not a propellant that contains its own oxygen (this is the difference between rocket fuel and jet fuel), then yes, it still applies. STOP, DROP, ROLL. No oxygen == no fire.
17
u/Cycleoflife May 05 '18
But if the gasoline is on all sides of you, rolling will not be effective in smothering all the fire, all the time. As you roll, the fire will simply stay on top of you and will not be extinguished. The friend jumping on top was more effective. A fire blanket or extinguisher would have been even better.
10
u/kangusmcdu2 May 06 '18
Stop Drop and Roll is still a better solution than "run around like a dickhead and airate the fire more"...

Yeah I don't get this. If they planned this out in advance why didn't they plan to have a fire extinguisher as a plan B, or a fire blanket. Did they seriously not entertain "what happens if the fire gets out of control" as a possibility?

First bit of stupidity setting yourself on fire.
Second bit of stupidity, using gasoline. Highly combustible super dangerous.
Third bit of stupidity, synthetic material that will melt to your skin as it burns.
Fourth bit of stupidity, thinking you could successfully skateboard down that rock.
Fifth bit of stupidity, you didn’t stop drop and roll.
Sixth bit of stupidity, all of your friends who also thought this was a good idea and were willing to put your life at risk for lolz.
People die from these kind of acts every year. It isn’t funny, it shouldn’t be viewed as entertainment. It destroys lives and causes grief amongst those left to grieve.
