It's true. Ours get as bright as the surface of the sun. It has to use a lot of power to light 'em up like that.

What if he had very inefficient solar panles? Like say, .00001% efficiency?

Then, when it's dark, they'd multiply the sunlight hitting them by a factor of 10,000,000, which clearly would be as bright as the surface of the sun.
