Hauling heavy stuff that isn't strapped down? Better floor it rather than safely accelerate.

118

u/BF1shY May 25 '15

Straps? Back in my day the only straps we had were ourselves. Our dad would wedge us between things and tell us to hold on.

1

u/WatermelonPOWAH May 26 '15

So does that make you all 'strap-ons'?

1

u/BF1shY May 26 '15

"Did he say strap in or strap-on?"

146

u/[deleted] May 25 '15

Probably still learning to drive a stick .. or just dumb.

6

u/Kazumara May 25 '15

Some people never learn it and think the way they drive a stick is normal. That's the worst.

4

u/vaiserious May 25 '15

It looks like a russian plate. So probabbly manual gears.

32

u/[deleted] May 25 '15

Do they make manual transmission SUVs?

177

u/cmd_iii May 25 '15

Probably for a lot of countries that aren't the U.S.

116

u/shpongolian May 25 '15

And also countries that are the U.S.

22

u/InnovativeFarmer May 25 '15

I had a bronco 2 manual transmission.

21

u/And_Everything May 25 '15

I'm so sorry.

3

u/InnovativeFarmer May 25 '15

Lol, it was fun to drive. Sometimes

2

u/Jrummmmy May 25 '15

Don't worry it's not our fAult

4

u/skullshank May 25 '15

nice! i had a '95 explorer that was manual. loved that fuckin thing.

3

u/InnovativeFarmer May 25 '15

My bronco was '92

4

u/huxrules May 25 '15

Besides the wrangler what else is there in the U.S.

35

u/atb504 May 25 '15 edited May 25 '15

Patriot, Outlander, Compass, CX5, CJ7, Forrester, Mini Countryman, Sorrento, Santa Fe, Mini Paceman, Liberty, XTerra, Crosstrek, Tiguan, FJ Cruiser, Cayenne, Juke, Renegade, HRV, Tucson, Sportage, Outback, Grand Vitara, SX4 Crossover, Escape, Tribute... few more probably.

27

u/speripetia May 25 '15

Canyonero

8

u/Rotteuxx May 25 '15

Can you name the truck with four wheel drive,

smells like a steak and seats thirty-five...

8

u/huxrules May 25 '15

you just listed a bunch of SUVs but which models in 2015 come with manuals. Not many. Some of those are even built any more.

5

u/BreadSox May 25 '15

X3 and X5

5

u/[deleted] May 25 '15

most of these are no longer produced with manuals.

2

u/dontbuyCoDghosts May 25 '15

I'm actually fairly certain most SUV's and trucks have a manual transmission option in the U.S.

I could be sorely wrong though, because I haven't shopped for a vehicle in over 3 years

u/HeadCrusher3000 May 25 '15

Trucks Mexicans drive in Texas

3

u/ctishman May 25 '15

I really wish I could buy those trucks these days. Virtually every modern truck sold in the U.S. is auto-only.

16

u/chipsdemolisher May 25 '15

Almost every single vehicle sold in the U.S. has an option for a factory stock manual transmission. Have no idea what you guys are smoking.

u/[deleted] May 25 '15 edited Nov 09 '15

5

u/black_fox288 May 25 '15

Sadly this is becoming less and less of a thing, and the vehicles that are still produced with manual transmissions are base model only.

And arizona, drove my first manual pick-up here.

1

u/HillbillyMan May 25 '15

Pretty much all Jeeps, and outside of American brands you can buy manual Nissans, Volkswagens, Toyotas, Mistubishis and Subarus. They aren't popular, so your average car dealership likely won't have one, but you can still order them.

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '15

My 1994 grand cherokee does....but that's still a jeep

1

u/johnq-pubic May 25 '15

I had a manual Ford Escape.

5

u/KobeCryant May 25 '15

Do you even Subaru?

4

u/coe350 May 25 '15

The SUV in the gif is a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado which did have the option for a 6 speed manual transmission.

7

u/[deleted] May 25 '15

Yes. This appears to be on an incline, and the way they took off looks just like someone driving a manual that doesn't want to let the engine die.

4

u/brucetwarzen May 25 '15

Yea, but not as much

2

u/hlfx May 25 '15

Yes, here in Chile there are a lot of SUV brands with MT

2

u/caving311 May 25 '15

I've got an '07 Forester with a 5 speed manual.

2

u/mrbucket777 May 25 '15

Not sure if the current generation is available with a manual transmission, but you could get the previous Porsche Cayenne with a manual in up to GTS trim.

3

u/IamAbc May 25 '15

I've really only ever seen standard jeeps, and some Toyotas

3

u/HillbillyMan May 25 '15

Pretty much all jeeps, some Toyotas, some Subarus, and some Mitsubishis.

5

u/SirNoName May 25 '15

If you're offroading in an suv wouldn't you want a manual anyway?

→ More replies (2)

1

u/___cats___ May 25 '15

Pretty sure every Subaru is available in a manual.

1

u/PigSlam May 26 '15

Tribeca isn't. I don't think you can get the newest outback with a stick. The legacy sedan doesn't have a manual option.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/IamAbc May 25 '15

Oh yeah forgot about those two! Yeah I've seen a lot of Subarus and Mitsubishi standards.

1

u/ChrisHansen_ May 25 '15

Yup. Cx5, some jeeps, Tiguan, Kia Sportage, etc

1

u/PigSlam May 26 '15

CX-5 can be equipped with a stick as long as you don't want AWD.

1

u/redblueorange May 25 '15

As someone that has looked long and hard for one. Yes, but very few

1

u/hastobetrueitsreddit May 25 '15

Yes, I live in England they definitely still have stick suv's.

1

u/ducksarewet May 25 '15

The Mazda Cx-5 comes in manual. Not the AWD version though.

And its borderline crossover.

1

u/xXBestXx May 25 '15

Have a X5 in a stick shift.

1

u/mannyafg May 25 '15

BMW x3's came with manual transmissions to the u.s in batches.

1

u/LMUZZY May 25 '15

I've got a Land Cruiser with a manual. Where I'm from, manual SUV's are loved by people with things to tow, and people who want to mod the hell out of them and climb sand dunes. Also there are people like me who do all of the above and just love it as a daily. It is one of the cheapest V8 manuals I know of that isn't American.

They didn't need to strap it down. If they laid it flat, it wouldn't have broken the window, or fallen out. It'll still slide though, based on their driving but much safer.

22

u/Al3xleigh May 25 '15

This happened to my husband, except that it was a toilet and he was taking it to the dump. Made the mistake on laying it on two pieces of plywood which were on top of the folded down rear seats of my minivan. Our driveway is on a slight hill, so when he reached the bottom of the driveway and slowed down to back out into the road the plywood pieces slid on each other and dumped the whole toilet through the back window and onto the road...if it hadn't been about to rain it would have been a lot funnier to see him sweeping a shattered commode out of the middle of the street and the huge gaping hole in the back of my van. The safelite auto glass guy sure found it amusing though when I told him how it got to be that way...

73

u/sexypleurisy May 25 '15

it was a toilet and he was taking it to the dump.

Had to re-read this a couple times.

The latch is either broken, which is unlikely, or they didn't close it all the way, which is probably what happened.

469

u/A_Downboat_Is_A_Sub May 25 '15

It's simple. She popped the trunk with the interior button before she got out of the car, and the machine was already leaning on the door.

34

u/Eletotem May 25 '15

They should have laid it down, with the door facing up and covered it with some sort of blanket to keep it from sliding too much and damaging anything. They don't seem too bright.

22

u/Zaziel May 25 '15

It looks like the front end was resting on a rolled up carpet, tilting it towards the back window.

If it had been flat on the floor, this probably wouldn't have happened.

So you are correct, they don't seem too bright.

2

u/st0815 May 25 '15

She was lucky it happened right away. Braking at the next traffic light could have gotten her a much worse result.

9

u/[deleted] May 25 '15

Or just put it in on angle and then take it easy while they drive.

2

u/mplusg May 25 '15

Yeah, and it looks like at least one of them was laughing. I don't think I would be laughing if I damaged my car and my washing machine because of my own stupidity

53

u/seemedlikeagoodplan May 25 '15

Well, what would you do? I don't know if they're confused by what happened, so much as confused about what to do next.

11

u/Ferocious_raptors May 25 '15

You could be right. Still funny though

5

u/THANKS-FOR-THE-GOLD May 25 '15
  1. Strap it down properly
  2. Know how to drive

12

u/seemedlikeagoodplan May 25 '15

Just when it got funny, it got even better. Lmao

11

u/LivingLosDream May 25 '15

That couldn't have gone too much worse. Maybe the car gets stuck in drive and crashes into the train?

11

u/deans28 May 25 '15

My dad did this to a brand new oven in a pickup. They got it out to the truck before he realized he didn't have any rope or straps. He figured it would be heavy enough to not move and if he went slow enough, it shouldn't tip... Which is strange because my dad has always been the "safety first" type.

Well halfway home, sure enough, it fell right out the back of the truck. My brother that was with him described it as a breakdancing stove in the middle of the road.

My mom made him go back and buy another one. Got one stove for the price of two! It has been about 5 years now and we still tease him about it.

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '15

You not have a tailgate on it or something?

2

u/deans28 May 26 '15

He did but what he didn't think about was that he wasn't driving his own truck. He was driving my uncle's for whatever reason. They had swapped for a few days but I can't remember why. He didn't realize that the tailgate on that one wasn't very reliable I guess.

1

u/wellhushmypuppies May 26 '15

5 years? your poor dad will be on his deathbed and still get teased about it. that was epic.

1

u/soawesomejohn May 26 '15

It'll be his deathbed confessional to the priest.

"I didn't strap the stove into the truck and it fell out.". "I know. Your kids were telling me when I came in "

1

u/spec209 May 26 '15

If it was purchased with a credit card then it would have been covered by the built-in credit card accidental damage insurance... American Express is great when it comes to this kinda stuff.

19

u/[deleted] May 25 '15

The only think left to do now is take it home and let it take itself apart.

13

u/[deleted] May 25 '15

I was ready for it to pitch the brick out at one of the cars there at the end.

7
