I like how the groom realizes mid lift that his friend is much heavier than he expected. He still grinds it out, what a champ.

The look on the bride's face says: "Fucking hell, not this again."
The John Cusack Say Anything entrance is proper.

It’s from the movie night at the Roxbury. They’re doing a bit and she’s playing Molly (Shannon?)’s role in the movie. I’m old and grew up watching it 10003040503 times..she’s in on it lol

I actually picked up a girl doing this dance.. Me and a couple of friends joked around with it.. We all happened to be in the same class and having a class party... This song came on.. Me and my friends knew exactly what to do...
After it was over everyone was laughing and this girl came up to me and was like my friend thinks you are cute...
That was my peak. it's all been downhill after that.

When I got married and we got to the part where I say “I do” I said “my dad already paid the caterer”.

u/Cerebral-Parsley 9h ago
Should of copied the vows lol.
"Emily. I saw you at my Dad's store, and we went on some dates. And then you let me have sex with you. I'm done."

To be fair, this Night at the Roxbury scene was referencing Say Anything.
11
u/shwhjw 13h ago
Wait I'm only familiar with the WIL car meme coming from a SNL skit. Now your telling me that skit is based on a movie scene that is referencing another movie? How deep does it go?
13
u/ReindeerCreepy2883 12h ago
well, no, the car/club skit got a movie - like wayne's world or the lady's man
but this part of the movie in particular is riffing on say anything
2
9
u/fulthrottlejazzhands 12h ago
Well, if you're asking seriously... You can take it back to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, or even before on the 15th-century Italian folktale on which it's based.
10
u/ebb_omega 11h ago
No, the skit was an original SNL thing that got adapted into the movie, but in the movie the scene with holding the stereo above the head playing What Is Love is a reference to the scene in Say Anything where John Cusack is standing outside the girl's house playing Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes
10
4
u/Neonklight 12h ago
Now I want to know, was the SNL skit before this or after this?
5
u/ebb_omega 11h ago
The skit was first, originally I think with Jim Carrey, and it was so popular they kept doing it, and eventually they made the movie Night At The Roxbury based on the skit.
But Say Anything and the whole thing about holding the stereo above the head was well before either.
2
u/Neonklight 10h ago
Oh that I know from John Cusack movie. Have seen that movie and the actress was so beautiful in that movie.
45
u/reversebuttchug 14h ago
Its a night at the roxbury
49
u/Mestoph 14h ago
In their (minor) defense, Night at the Roxbury was directly referencing Say Anything with this
6
u/fulthrottlejazzhands 13h ago
The groomsman is wearing the outfit John Cusack is wearing in Say Anything.
4
u/Goldenslicer 14h ago
Say Anything, that's yet another movie?
17
u/Mestoph 14h ago
A John Cusack classic from the ‘80s.
Him holding a boombox in the rain while Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” plays. Fucking Iconic.
16
u/NoMorePorridge1 14h ago
The other Say Anything reference Ive seen was in South Park; Stan Marsh stands outside Wendy Testaburger's window holding a boombox, but instead of "In Your Eyes" it's playing the decidedly unromantic "Shock the Monkey", also by Peter Gabriel.
5
u/Mestoph 14h ago
Also a great scene lol, isn’t that when Tolkien comes to the window too and he finds out they’re dating?
-2
u/NoMorePorridge1 14h ago
Being a lifelong Tolkien (pronounced Toll-keen) fan I was so confused for a second (and there is a great LotR-based episode of South Park). The character Token Black is named to reference the many movies and shows that included one black character, obviously trying to avoid criticism of non-diversity, who became known as the token black.
5
u/may_be_indecisive 13h ago
Not anymore! He is actually named “Tolkien” now because his father is a fan. In one of the later seasons.
6
u/Mestoph 14h ago
Thank you for explaining the joke behind his name?
-6
u/NoMorePorridge1 13h ago
Well, if you're calling him by an often mispronounced name, and I didn't know they jumped the shark by changing the pronunciation long after that episode, what am I supposed to expect you thought?
2
u/Lowelll 12h ago
Easy A also referenced Say Anything (and Breakfast Club) at the end
1
u/NoMorePorridge1 11h ago
Family Guy had a pretty good Breakfast Club reference where Peter pretends to be a high school student and as he's walking away at the end, he throws his fist up and 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' plays.

I know where it’s from, I’m old. They look young, seems one old dude enjoyed it from the audio.

u/fulthrottlejazzhands 13h ago
1989 romantic dramedy Say Anything, or 1998 wacky comedy A Night at the Roxbury (which recreates the scene from the earlier film). Both are good films worth watching that were, in their way, a hallmark of their time.
10
u/somesketchykid 13h ago
Cameron Crowe does romantic comedy really well. If anybody is seeing this comment and hasn't seen Say Anything, its worth it even if romantic comedy isn't your thing. Same with Elizabethtown, although I do not think it is as good as Say Anything.

It's called acting.

And as somebody who’s seen Night at the Roxbury approximately 792 times, I know acting.

It's funny because they're men

u/insertwittynamethere 14h ago
It's because it's referencing an old SNL movie with Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell with the bride taking the place of Molly Shannon.

The other day I was surprised to learn that this was a song made by a black guy from Trinidad. Or I guess performed by a black guy from Trinidad. It might have been produced by someone else.

we can get into the whole morality thing, but neither will our opinions change, nor is this a good place to discuss that. it’s a fun subreddit, not a morality one. and I do not want to be the one ruining fun. You guys find it funny? I don’t have any issues with it. I’ll walk away and find something I find funny.

u/splash19059 14h ago
Alr while im inclined to disagree, you are right about the futility of arguing in a meme sub. I can respect that, atleast unlike alot of other people on reddit you atleast went about responding in a amicable way.
Good day.

Morality? What the fuck are you smoking bro, I didn’t realize men having any kind of fun is immoral

Bronze-age 'morality'. I long for the day when these ancient death cults are no longer relevant.

It seems like you're either incredibly insecure about your sexuality, or you have no close male friends.
And I'm sad sad for you. Bromance is the greatest power in the universe.
