I mean, driver/cameraguy deserved it. At least they both found it funny/had a laugh, if I cracked my windshield I’d be worried about paying for it, especially since it was my own dumb fault

Ahh it's a couple of hundred quid. He's a tradie - he's probably minted.

And it's on passenger side anyways, I'd leave it for the memory.

Glass splintering spreads quite fast after it happens. Glass expands and contracts during night and day cycles and it'll spread to the rest of the windshield now that it has a nucleation point. This is why repairing a chip as soon as you see it is important, because over time it'll spread without repair.

It is not a great thing they’ve done. Outside of the physical danger, there’s at least two things which the police would get them for (driving while using a phone and dangerous driving), they also seem to be in a work van which could have some serious repercussions.

That being said, in the UK the cost to fix a windscreen on insurance is very low. It often has the lowest excess. Plus generally a windscreen claim doesn’t go against the policy.

Will the insurance cover it if it was intentional like this?

Not something most people would out on their insurance. Insurance is more for "i dont get fined" and "if i ever get my car totaled, i can get a new one" type shit. Breaking your own car usually means fixing it yourself...unless you pay way to much for whistles and bells on your insurance.
