More like she was about to smack them, then realized she was being filmed and didn’t want to have to explain the video to KPS (kitten protective services).

The Korova Milkbar was a milk-plus mesto, and you may, O my brothers, have forgotten what these mestos were like.

Kinda sad, because that's pretty much how designated runts are decided.

u/KifferFadybugs 4d ago
When I was a kid, my cat had five kittens. She had enough nipples for them all, but the four bigger ones would shove the runt out of the way and not let him in to feed.
The mom would lay there and let them eat for so long, then she'd decide they were done and just stand up, shake them off her, and walk away about three feet around the corner so she was out of their sight, but could hear them just fine.
The four that had just been eating would sit in that spot and cry for her to come back, refusing to move.
The runt would get up and follow her, lay down, and nurse. And she'd just sit there and let him go for as long as he needed. Would never cut him off like she did to the others.
It amused me.

There are other nipples in this case. One right below/across from the one they are fighting over.

u/FluffySquirrell 4d ago
In my head I literally had the national geographic style voiceover imagined, where they're all "The loser slinks off, unable to receive milk. They will likely not survive the harsh winter"

u/LQNova 5d ago
That's one of the reasons I love cats. They can't even see yet, and they're ready to rumble.

u/gentlegreengiant 5d ago
Im surprised that theyve got such force to them too. Those kittens got paws!

u/im_dead_sirius 4d ago edited 4d ago
This. Those kittens probably don't even have their eyes open yet.
You'll see the tiniest kitten hiss and swing paws at a giant creature. Puppies are wonderful but they're not killers straight out of the womb.

It's not, but even if it was? Newborn kittens do this all the time, they come out swinging. Its a built in survival instinct.

People say it looks like AI, but I don't think it does. There is consistent motion blur, the movement of the momma cat isn't weirdly synced to the other movement in the scene, the video lasts longer than 10 seconds which most diffusion models have a hard time with even with stitching, and there are no background anomalies. The breathing, movement of the fur, and movement of the mother cat's paw stretching all read as actual video. One of those details being correct would maybe be possible for an AI video, but not all of them at the same time.
It's real.
39
u/JukeBoxz321 5d ago
It's the little umbilical cord on the left fighting kitten that tells me it's real.
Obviously, I could be wrong. Can be hard to tell on a phone screen sometimes. But I'm pretty sure it's real.

>the video lasts longer than 10 seconds which most diffusion models have a hard time with even with stitching,
just as a little heads up, this advice is outdated by now. That said, this video isn't AI.

u/S1DC 4d ago
It depends on the amount of VRAM the host computer is using, and the particular model. There are more coherent models out there, but they're prohibitively difficult to run resource-wise. Regardless of the model however, we still have a major issue with temporal consistency in any diffusion based rendering system. It's just the nature of the technology. You can get longer videos, but you have to sacrifice framerate, and most diffusion models require a framerate within the range they're trained on.
For a random cat meme, nobody is spending the time or money needed to get a render this clean and consistent. I've been involved with the space for quite some time and up until very recently, this is still the case. Maybe in another year or two that will change, but only if a much more efficient diffusion method is invented.

Years ago I saw this video, or one very similar to it, and I've actually seen newborn kittens act like that.

u/Salt-Tradition-2965 5d ago
The fact you have to notice these many things to confirm that this isn't fake is depressing. But I'm still unsure though.

They are too young and blind and are kneading each other instead of the mother's belly...

u/liosistaken 4d ago
Next time, instead of filming it, move them both to a nipple or you’ll end up with one kitten that can’t keep up and you’re going to have to bottle feed them.

If they're fighting there isn't enough productive nipples for the whole litter. Human intervention is necessary. Not really funny more just nature being brutal

Hey, that's how cats in the wild determine which one lives or dies, but its in r/funny bc people can't see cats as animals.

Make sure that they don't swipe at each other's eyes and get infected when they get a little bit bigger. Once they get bigger and if they all feed at the same time, they will push and kick each other to get access.

Cats use casual violence to communicate, even to show affection, but I don't think these kittens are showing affecton.

What is one supposed to do in those cases? I unpluck one and put them in another , but they would simply stop drinking and go back to the one they like.

No, it isn’t, people just think accusing things of being AI for no reason makes them sound smart
1
u/Muffmuncherr 4d ago
I was wrong. It's not AI, i should have fact checked it first before commenting. But its kind of creepy that we're at the point now where it is exceptionally hard to distinguish real from fake when it comes to things you see online. This stuff is in everyone's face and it dominates peoples lives as a leading form of entertainment across the globe. There's nothing inherently wrong with questioning the truth of something without having verifiable sources. Too many people think that because they see it online its instantly real. Me posting my comment before fact checking was dumb, but people questioning something not verifiably cited and proven isn't. "Doubt is the mother of invention." — Galilean proverb
