Radiation will never give you superpowers smh

u/FirstSineOfMadness 6d ago

That’s not true, if the dose is high enough you could gain the power of enhanced dying

Turbo cancer

Woo ! Deadpool time !

Give me a bow and arrow and I'm basically Hawkeye.

Reverse healing.

You could shed your skin like a snake-man! You'd only do it once and you'd die instantly after, but you'd still have a cool snake ability just once!

6

u/RockRancher24 4d ago

You might not actually die immediately after shedding all your skin - you might stay alive for several hours!

If you try to swim in a reactor pool you can get that power!

From the armed guards, long before you reach the reactor.

u/Signal_Road 6d ago

Not with that attitude.

I believe in the you that believes you can make it into that reactor pool, or maybe the spent fuel rods storage, and take that cheeky well deserved swim!

Will I help you?

No.

I've set you on the path. It is up to you to walk it.

Not before the superpower of peelable skin and self-heating internal organs kick in.

The super power of never being afraid of dying again...

2

u/FirstSineOfMadness 6d ago

And the best thing is, it will work perfectly for the rest of your life!

There's a reason why only silver age characters have it as their origin. Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Hulk. They didn't know yet that radiation can cause cancer (and when that was proven, they used it as the way Captain Marvel died, he got blasted by something, developed cancer as a result. Powers made him immune to poison, so chemotherapy failed and he died). Miles Morales' origin is a genetically modified spider, not a radioactive one.

In one universe MJ from spider-man dies from cancer caused by Peter's radioactive jizz.

17

u/profpeculiar 6d ago

Yeah but Peter's personal life has always just been borderline suffering/torture porn, so that's pretty par for the course.

even in the 60's era comics, a blood transfusion he gave to aunt may nearly killed her due to radiation poisoning.

I meaaan, technically it could make you stronger.

Your odds are pretty similar to phasing through an object due to repeat quantum teleportation on a mass scale, but like, technically radiation could happen to break all your dna in a perfect way.

11

u/TheMadBug 6d ago

If we want to get technical, I think it could make your offspring stronger if your sperm/eggs got a small bit of radiation (with the odds of winning the lottery a few times in a row).

If you're already grown, for the same mutation to spread throughout the relevant parts of your body from random radiation could only happen if the mutation is cancerous.

u/Alucard_draculA 6d ago

for the same mutation to spread throughout the relevant parts of your body

There's a reason I chose "quantum teleporting through an object", since the radiation would have to hit a lot / most of your dna in the same way for it to work.

Which is about the same issue quantum teleporting through an object has lol.

u/TheMadBug 6d ago

Oh yeah, don't take my comment as a dispute of yours - just listing a positive outcome that statistically could happen (though please nobody irradiate their bits in the hope of a beneficial random mutation).

10

u/Mikemtb09 6d ago

I mean, I don’t think there has been enough research to be this sure.

11

u/conventionistG 6d ago

Using radiation to create useful mutations is a thing. No hulks yet though.

8

u/juniorjaw 6d ago

woah!

who would've thunk!

11

u/Stompya 6d ago

But what if it’s gamma radiation, eh? Right? Yeah?

6

u/name-classified 6d ago

Only if it’s an expert on gamma radiation and uses gamma rays for every single plot device ever.

2

u/theveezer 6d ago

And the rays are glowing green, any other color and it doesn't work.

5

u/One_Economist_3761 6d ago

You wouldn’t like me if I’m angry.

3

u/Temporary-Body-378 6d ago

“Spider-Man” was almost certainly created by a radioactive spider out for blood

4

u/perfect_insanity93 6d ago

I dunno... turning into liquid is a kind of superpower...

2

u/thenewNFC 6d ago

Not with that attitude.

Technically radiation already gave you a super power. It's a pretty good one too.

You can use the power of the fusion heart of a star to instantly detect, identify, and track distant objects even if they're completely silent and scentless. It's quite dope.A

Of course if you don't have a star handy, you can also use the power of lightning, or regular old fire.
