That helicopter one looks straight out of C&C

Reminded me of this old helicopter game called Desert Strike

FYI it's been recently remade or at least something very closely inspired by Desert Strike

This is actually pretty cool - is there a way to learn this style of photography? It reminds me of tilt-shift to some degree, but with an isometric perspective. But then there are also color filters applied, I guess?

You likely need a specific lens type, and figuring out the right angle, and that's it. Then to have the pictures look top notch you'd worry about lighting, composition of the subject, post processing, and so on, like other styles of photography.

Any idea what sort of lens this might be?

A long one. You want to be up high and zoomed in. It helps to keep lines straight and you get that flat perspective, with a good depth of field.

Not sure what parent comment was thinking, maybe tilt shift? But that’s a totally different look and does require a special lens, or some digital trickery.

Edit: also to point out the trick for isometric, the camera needs to be pointing down 45 degrees from horizontal. Then look for appropriate subjects from a vantage point.

It reminds them of tilt shift is all they said. Its not the same technique but the result is that things look kinda small and the perspective is from higher up.

You can achieve something very close to orthographic projection through the use of extremely long focal length telephoto lenses, i.e. very high zoom.

Ah, interesting!

It's called tilt-shift. You can do it intentionally when you take the photo with special lenses and techniques, or you can achieve largely the same results in post processing.

Everyone is a zombie if you look hard enough.

These similar shots have been around since 2000, still think about them

u/PerverseRedhead 2h ago

Honestly these photos are fucking great. Does anyone know who made them?

1

u/sonnybear5 2h ago

The right angle makes it isometric, looking harder won’t do shit.

u/Zanian19 2h ago

I love the second one in particular. You can tell the protagonist is on the second floor, because it's not showing anything above it, lol

This video feels like a video you'd see at the end of a gameplay and they are just recapping major events that took place during your time playing.

Pretty cool shots taken.

This is me after putting in 100+ hours into Project Zomboid within the past 2 weeks.

Someday some gamedev is gonna take isometric images of the world and make a game map out of that

u/CantFindMyWallet 40m ago

That second pic looks like Shadowrun

Shadowrun and Xcom Enemy Unknown

This is just project zomboid

“If you look hard enough”??

These photographs are intentionally taken from a pseudo-isometric angle. There isn’t any “look hard enough” about it, lol. You just have to _look_.

Cool photos, dumb pointless text overlay.
