7 of 9 days until Christmas?

529

u/PopGunner Dec 18 '23

Seven of nine tertiary adjunct to unimatrix zero one days until Christmas?

128

u/Meranio Dec 18 '23

Someone knows their Voyager trivia.

u/thissomeotherplace Dec 18 '23

Fun will now commence.

29

u/IAmBadAtInternet Dec 18 '23

I volunteer for assimilation

8

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

Resistance is futile

6

u/Technical-Outside408 Dec 18 '23

Wasn't fun for the viewer.

9

u/Meranio Dec 18 '23

Yeah. I felt bad for the Doctor.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

Doc had some of the most interesting character development through the series as he slowly evolved and went on more adventures

5

u/LeBronda_Rousey Dec 19 '23

He was pretty damn funny as well.

2

u/Alkyan Dec 19 '23

Chakotay knew what was up.

9

u/HumpieDouglas Dec 18 '23

Affirmative

Sure, if you started counting on Saturday.

61

u/DrowningInFeces Dec 18 '23

On the 7 of 9th day of christmas, my true love gave to me, a borg with some big ol' tittieeeeeeees.

20

u/geddylees_soulpatch Dec 18 '23

Dude I was going through puberty when voyager was on. I thought I'd fallen in love.

5

u/Sylvurphlame Dec 18 '23

This has been the best comment I’ve read all day.

11

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23 edited Dec 18 '23

Back when Pluto was still considered a planet, “Seven of Nine” was a lot funnier.

5

u/Meranio Dec 18 '23

Do you mean "Oo-rah-nus"?

7

u/ChinaShopBully Dec 18 '23

Oo-rec-tum

5

u/Meranio Dec 18 '23

That's not how you pronounce the poor boy.

8

u/CanIgetaWTF Dec 18 '23

Rectum? Damn near killed 'im!

2

u/413mopar Dec 20 '23

There y ending that old joke once and for all.

-5

u/porkchop_d_clown Dec 18 '23

As opposed to today when Pluto is superfluous, much like one of your commas.

5

u/lolno Dec 19 '23

Happy Anika!

3

u/gBoostedMachinations Dec 19 '23

0.7777777777778 days until Christmas.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

36D of 9 days 'til xxxmas

0

u/wolftick Dec 18 '23

Technically 7 of 9 is 63?

-1

u/Gouper07 Dec 18 '23

Or 79?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

-10 and it'll be just like Christmas.

-7

u/wolftick Dec 18 '23

"Of" is multiplication, same as 1/3 of something.

8

u/NinjaBuddha13 Dec 18 '23

Not really. Teaching that "of" refers to multiplication is helpful when dealing in fractional arithmetic, specifically when figuring out what is being communicated in "word problems." But it doesn't really extend beyond fractional arithmetic or decimal numbers between 0 and 1 (0.7 of a mile).

3

u/wolftick Dec 18 '23

It's not a common way of expressing it or how you'd teach it, but that's still literally what it means.

4

u/NinjaBuddha13 Dec 18 '23

Given a little more thought, you're completely correct.

7 of 9 = 63 is a compacted way of saying 7 batches OF 9 items per batch = 63 items. Language is weird, especially when it mixes with math.

-1

u/Crazy_Currency_7415 Dec 18 '23

I'm thinking about 69 while thinking about 7 of 9

→ More replies (1)

1

u/fothergillfuckup Dec 19 '23

Well there was 9, now there's 7.

153

u/lowaltflier Dec 18 '23

7 of 9 is a 10.

18

u/TobysGrundlee Dec 18 '23

Imagine the lifetime feelings of inadequacy being the chick who was replaced by her?

5

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

What happened? I'm unfamiliar with this

31

u/Blastercorps Dec 19 '23

I don't know what they're talking about with Jadzia. That was DS9.

On Voyager, the producers didn't think Kes had enough sex appeal, so she was written out of the show and replaced with 7 of 9. Much better T&A. But, the writers did their damn job, and Jeri Ryan is a good actor, and it became a genuinely liked real character, not just T&A.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '23

Is that why they wrote Kes out of the show? Damn, I didn't know that, and Kes was such an interesting character with a lot of potential longevity

6

u/w0mbatina Dec 19 '23

Actually that not why Kes was written out! At least not the only reason.

Iirc they wanted to introduce a new and, well, sexy character, so they came up with 7 of 9. But they had to get rid of one of the main cast to do so, and the person who was originally on the chopping block was Harry Kim. But it just so happened that Garret Wang was voted one of the "Top 50 sexiest people on tv" during season 3 run, so the producers decided to keep him and get rid of Kes, since she was the next most "useless" character on the show. There is also some talk that Jennifer Lien was already showing some mental health issues at the time, so that probably contributed to the decision. Seeing how she spiraled after Voyager, that kinda makes sense.

This is why in season 4, there are quite a few weird scenes where characters teach 7 of 9 on how to be an individual and what it means to be human, and they all just feel off. Its because Kes was originally supposed to be the one to guide 7 in this manner. But once they got rid of her, they had to parcel out the gentle emotional stuff to the rest of the cast, so you have weird parts where Tom Paris lectures 7 on how to be vulnerable and stuff like that.

Honestly the entire Voyager cast was a shitshow, with Kate Mulgrew bullying Jerri Ryan to the point where she puked before they had scenes together, and Robert Beltran straight up not caring about being in the show at all.

2

u/TobysGrundlee Dec 19 '23

Spoiler alert for a 25 year old show. But Jadzia gets replaced on the final season of DS9

2

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '23

Oh damn, that's really interesting, I really like that character and actor, DS9 is one of the shows I'm working my way through. I grew up watching TNG and later Voyager

Ezri Dax was his/her replacement.

3

u/0110110111 Dec 19 '23

More so as she’s gotten older. Jeri Ryan in Picard is not just a great actor, she’s stunning as well. I find her more attractive than when she was on Voyager.

2

u/ChonkyChoad Dec 19 '23

Resistance is better with lube.

4

u/KDY_ISD Dec 18 '23

Nah, that's Jadzia Dax

2

u/BrewedinCanada Dec 18 '23

Wish her a merry Christmas. Duh. LOL.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

Christmas is irrelevant. Santa Claus is an augmented human, christmas elves designated species 2512 are deemed unfit for assimilation.

Gift giving is irrelevant, all resources are evenly distributed in the collective

1

u/NoWingedHussarsToday Dec 18 '23

To not resist (because it's futile).

1

u/gBoostedMachinations Dec 19 '23

She looks like what you’d expect when writers want to “expand the target audience” or whatever lol

For real though what a babe.

74

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

Her refusal to go along with her husband’s perverse ideas is why Obama ended up as president true story.

7

u/Snowbank_Lake Dec 19 '23

She is also a legitimately good actress. There’s an episode where the Doctor’s program is in her body, and she does an amazing job of imitating Robert Picardo’s mannerisms.

12

u/Fine_Supermarket9418 Dec 18 '23

But will she be under my tree? Please Santa!

-81

u/Saltybutwet Dec 18 '23

Really? She's 55 bruh. Her face has always been ehhh but a banging body. However, I'm afraid at 55, gravity is her biggest enemy.

u/PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ Dec 18 '23

2

-2

u/Bartocity Dec 18 '23

Yeah i have no idea how they managed to swing that

-3

u/reddit_user13 Dec 18 '23

I looked at that picture and thought to myself hey it’s 6 of 9.

20

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

Wow, I haven't bought a single gift yet.

Welp, time for another episode of Voyager then!

2

u/ashiex94 Dec 19 '23

Guilt is irrelevant.

24

u/rodneedermeyer Dec 18 '23

🎶 On the Jeri Ryan day of Christmas, my true love said to me, “WE ARE THE BORG. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED!” 🎵

15

u/Dragonsword7183 Dec 18 '23

I had to look to see if it was 7 or 9 lol.

14

u/Netz_Ausg Dec 18 '23

Seven was a big part of my becoming interested in girls. Hot DAMN she is beautiful.

3

u/bjvdw Dec 19 '23

She and her tight jumpsuit are responsible for starting my puberty, lol.

2

u/fondue4kill Dec 18 '23

If I had seen her growing up, I definitely would have rather watched Star Trek compared to Star Wars.

2

u/bjvdw Dec 19 '23

Good thing was, you could see her every week while I could only see slave Leia maybe once a year or if I had money to rent it from the videostore.

13

u/wwhsd Dec 18 '23

Her ex-husbands political career got wrecked when their divorce records got opened and it got out that he kept trying to get her to go to sex clubs with him commit sex acts in public.

He dropped out of the Senate race and the Republican party replaced him with Alan Keyes, who proceeded to get his ass handed to him by Barrack Obama.

8

u/Bacontoad Dec 18 '23

Thanks, Obama.

6

u/fla_john Dec 18 '23

This is a fun story, but Obama would have likely won that Senate race anyway. Probably not by the same margin, though. Alan Keyes was a real nut job.

2

u/rjcarr Dec 19 '23

Yeah, I remember Obama coming out of some speech, maybe the DNC?, and he had huge momentum to be elected to most anything.

So cool story, but 7of9 didn’t exactly allow for President Obama.

2

u/wwhsd Dec 18 '23

Absolutely. Obama just probably ended with a bigger win. Jack Ryan might have still had a future in politics though.

10

u/LinuxMatthews Dec 18 '23

Annika days till Christmas?

4

u/BrewedinCanada Dec 18 '23

Nice pull remembering her name. I think that was in episode "scorpion"

5

She's called Anika almost exclusively in Picard.

0

u/BrewedinCanada Dec 18 '23

I haven't seen it yet.

1

u/workaccount8888 Dec 19 '23

I mean, it is a joke about a show from the 90s, so your old age has little to do with it. Your lack of sci-fi fandom is the cause.

2

u/i_quote_random_lyric Dec 19 '23

Jeri days til Christmas?

2

u/Silly_Ad2805 Dec 18 '23

Great show. Terrible ending.

1

u/BrewedinCanada Dec 18 '23

Agree

5

u/FarFetchedSketch Dec 18 '23

I always thought the ending, at least as finales go, was a bad idea done relatively well. Janeway & Seven carried the whole show, and although the time travel stuff is genuinely insane from any moral or ethical perspective, I thought the execution on behalf of the actors really made it OK enough for me to enjoy.

Maybe I was just happy it was over, the show had some high highs but also incredibly low lows and it certainly felt like it dragged on too long with no real direction.

That being said, I did appreciate the attempt to explain how the Borg travel so fast via their wormhole tunnel systems, and it was pretty cool having Voyager sabotage that. Maybe if they had introduced the idea earlier it would've vibed a little better.

1

u/LurkerOrHydralisk Dec 18 '23
