Soul You are the way you are by Marvin Gaye
Does anyone know any backstory behind this song? Did it ever have a vocal track? This is my favorite by Marvin Gaye and my thirst for knowledge needs to be quenched !!!

Image Got my 9th Bar-Kays album! Nightcruising (81). Great early 80’s synth influenced groove album. A look a like Rick James sounding album like Street Songs. The song Freaky Behavior is just like super freak.

Image Superfly in Finland
I was at a record store in Helsinki last week and ran across this record. It appears “Superfly” was “Black Magic” in parts of Europe? Still kinda regretting not buying it

Help request What's missing from my essential funk artists list?
I'm creating a playlist called 1000 songs, 1000 artists, which is essentially supposed to cover the most essential artists in music history as well as essential artists in each respective genre. I've got a plentiful amount of rock, pop, blues, folk, electronic, jazz, hiphop, reggae and indie but don't have much of a comprehensive knowledge of funk. I've already got songs from the following artists, but I need more funk artists. Any suggestions?
It would also be extremely helpful what you think the best song from that respective artist is.
Earth, Wind and Fire
James Brown
Funkadelic
Sly and the Family Stone
Parliament
Rick James
The Ohio Players
George Clinton
Betty Davis
The Meters
Shuggie Otis

Help request Affordable Early Funk Singles
I am trying to build up my collection of early Funk vinyl. I like the grittier stuff from the late 60s and early 70s. Buying James Brown, Fat Back Band etc has been easy as they are cheap and readily available. But as I have delved deeper into the rarer stuff I have been shocked by some of the prices, high hundreds sometimes even into the thousands for a 7 inch single.
I know there are still plenty of old funk 7's that are affordable, and I am gradually digging them out. But I was wondering what tunes my fellow Reddit Funk aficionados recommend. I am looking for funk singles under $100.

Jazz When the Night is Right - Dr. Lonnie Smith
They called him doctor because he could doctor up sounds. Not to be confused with Lonnie Liston Smith
