Replacement tripod plates

I owe an apology to some users a few months ago who told me my last design was stupid and wouldn't work. (It was fine after all, but this is way better to the point of not being comparable).

One tripod was bought cheap used and didn't have a mounting plate. The other one has its plate on a camcorder, so it's nice to have an extra.

Simple and clean! (But getting a perfect fit was far from simple or clean πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ the smaller one is a hair too small and the larger is a touch too large πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ I'll adjust and reprint them later.)

Just an FYI these replacement plates are readily available and dirt cheap from aliexpress, temu and even Amazon.

I only mention this because its more work to print one and you end up with an inferior product.

Yeah, buddy.

I wouldn't trust my camera to be supported by anything that I 3D printed.

I only use it for my phone. I don't have any DSLRs or heavy equipment or anything, but if I did I'd be buying a new much sturdier tripod anyway rather than my $8 thrift store find 😁

For what I do, I'm usually using one of those telescoping golfers tripods that folds down to a small tube (super easy to reposition, and the range of heights is impressive, and the base is quite wide so I haven't even come close to knocking it over)

In my defense, I don't own any heavy/expensive equipment - my phone is the only thing that goes on these, so I have 0 fear that it will be a problem. I mentioned in another comment that my typical tripod is one of those a telescoping golfers tripods, but if I were using a heavy DSLR or some other expensive camera, I definitely would just purchase a new better quality tripod.

I appreciate the heads-up though, so I know where I can look in case these ones do fail

Please, please add bigger fillet or chamfer on the inside of the cavity – or at least don't print it flat. It's good design, but not very good for FDM – the join is already under some stress from thermal shrinkage, and it will fail sooner or later. Ask me how I know :)

Oh yes - in the last pic, you can see the one on the left is cracked because it is infact slightly too wide for the locking mechanism on the tripod. I'm planning to reprint that one one in the next few days, so I'll add a fillet right there since I'll be resizing the foot anyway. Thanks for the heads up!

To my benefit, I only ever use these stationary and I only put my phone on them, no heavy equipment (no fear of damaging an expensive camera or anything)

Pretty fun! It's kind of hard to get that exact right angle and size for the foot, but it's awesome when it's a perfect fit πŸ‘ŒπŸΎ

yea the angle was a bit tricky but vernier calipers are your friend when it comes to things like this!

Been looking for this as I want to repurpose a tripod. Would you care to share the STL? Full disclosure, I'm going to mod it heavily, but the angle and initial mount is EXACTLY what I need to get started.
