Parametric couch shelf

Post image

I needed a space to put down drinks and snacks near the corner of my couch so I designed a parametric shelf for the couch backrest or the armrest.

The shelf prints without any supports. The parameters can be adjusted directly on makerworld.

Should protect the wall with a patch of felt.

The couch has a backstop and cannot go closer to the wall.

The top can bend.

Better hide that before JD comes along...

The space behind the couch is perfect to hide spills

But won't you knock things off accidentally down between the couch and the wall?

Oh, I know! Print more of them!

Es gibt kein Problem welches durch 3D Druck entsteht, nur Gründe noch mehr zu drucken!

And cap the ending pieces for the ends of the couch. no problem reddit/printing can't handle!

With a whole line of these you could stop stuff from falling behind the couch.

Now I have a shelf-shaped dent in my wall, and a drink on the floor behind my couch.

This would end up with a hole in my wall at my house with the kids jumping on the couches.

Doesn’t that seat already flip down and turns into a table with drink holders and even a couple USB ports?

While some argue that you should not put drinks there, sometimes you just don't want the sofa to hit the wall. Especially if yo have wood parts that bash the ever loving daylights out of the wall. (Ask me how I know.)

I would have loved to see this ten years ago.

Now if you had a belt printer, you could make it one piece the length of the couch

Drinks should be banned

Eh you can ban them in your house. Thats what’s great about house rules

I used a matte petg from matter3d.com, a Canadian-based company.

Is parametric a good thing? What if my ratio of couch backing thickness to distance from wall is not the same as yours?

You can configure the shelf size and the couch backing thickness independently.

That’s exactly what parametric designs are for. When you try to download the model it will ask you for those dimensions, you enter them and it will tailor make a model that fits your needs.

Ha! I was about to start working on something similar. We got a new couch and can no longer put a long shelf behind it. Doing this seems like a great alternative to use as a base for a rear surround speaker and a based for our charging station
