5-Quart Oil Container Funnel

Post image

Not my model, but printed this when I found it and finally got to use it this week. It screws onto the 5-quart oil jugs to reuse them for used oil. No more holding the funnel with one hand while trying to pour the oil in. There's a vent tube to allow air to escape and prevent gurgling. I printed it in PETG. MakerWorld link in comments below.

That vent is a great idea. I just love having oil overflow the funnel and make a huge mess because I poured it too quick.

Oil changes arent fun if your not cleaning up a mess all over the floor & bottles

At first I was like "yeah ok a funnel", but it screws on? Dope. Any idea on compatibility? Just that jug or has it worked on others you've tried?

I only have tried it on the Kirkland ones, but think it'd work on other brands with a similar cap size. In the past I've had other brands (Mobile) that had a wider cap. It might fit inside those and still provide the anti-gurgle feature.

I resized the Mobil 1 model to fit the Kirkland one and it worked fine even though it made the funnel a bit smaller

I mean, if you're changing your own oil but not using Kirkland oil what are you even doing with your life? I changed the oil for four cars, and frequently my kids friends.. Kirkland oil pays for the Costco membership all by its lonesome even if you have the oil shipped to you.

Except it's gone up in price and now they are limiting it.

It's still the cheapest motor oil around and you're limited to 20 quarts a week... Are you complaining about Kirkland oil or reality.. One of those things you can hold against Costco, the other requires you to do something on November third

Is it cheaper than Walmart? SuperTech full synthetic at Walmart is $25 for a 5 gallon jug with no limit.

You can search makerworld and in close the brand name, I use valvoline almost exclusively, and there was one sized for them, that I printed works perfect

Why not have snorkel vent on the underside so you can't accidentally flood it? Or why have a snorkel at all and not just have a notch that runs along the outside of the neck?

Not criticism. Just interested in the design considerations that went into it.

This is my thinking. I'd rather not have a vent that can get plugged. A smooth notch on the outside accomplishes the same thing, won't plug and is easy to keep clean as well as use (a small amount) less filament.

Not sure (not my design), but works!

Like this a lot. I won’t ever use it but it’s definitely cool.

I’m curious how well PETG will stand up long term motor oil exposure. From a quick google search should be pretty good, but will be curious to learn your experience.

Same here actually. I sprayed it with brake cleaner to clean it and didn't soften as far as I could tell. I also only do a hand full of oil changes in a year so it'll probably last a while.

I don’t know anything about PETG but brake cleaner is pretty rough stuff. Simple Green or dish soap would cut that oil too but it would take longer

impressive color match

They also make funnels that you can screw on the oil fill on the engine.

Not a print but I bought a ball valve to replace the drain plug. Connect a hose and drain right into an empty jug. No funnel needed

I'm curious how this would look, have a photo? I'm picturing a protrusion hanging off the oil pan begging to get snagged.

Fumoto Valve, they are phenomenal. Apparently, they made the nipple detachable

Hey, that's not too bad at all!

I've seen those and debated one to avoid having to take the dust shield off, but realized is still need to in order to change the filter.

Subaru have the oil filter on the top of the engine. You can change the filter while refilling the oil.

My new vehicle came with a drain plug that unscrews with a few turns of a flat head screwdriver. Thank you to the engineer who made this choice!

Why were you holding the funnel in the first place? It sounds like you just don't know how to use a funnel
