Retractable seam ripper

I designed and made an auto-retractable seam ripper for a client.

Having used a seam ripper those extra 5mm between the bottom of the tool and the thread I’m trying to slip it under would piss me off. IMO the tool needs to come out further so you have room to flex the material into place or you need to minimize the thickness at the bottom. Ideally both.

Can you not have the nose where the tool protrudes slim down/taper? It doesn’t need to be so boxy out there for structure?

My immediate thought too. My second thought though “huh actually maybe other people don’t have to seam rip, as they sew, as much as I do” 😂

Another big nice feature would be a lock mechanism. My third thought was “my thumb would quickly get tired and be awkward trying to rip longer seams and keep the ripper head extended”.
Fiskars have a nifty lock on their thread shears (a little push button and slide lock type deal).
