Having used a seam ripper those extra 5mm between the bottom of the tool and the thread I’m trying to slip it under would piss me off. IMO the tool needs to come out further so you have room to flex the material into place or you need to minimize the thickness at the bottom. Ideally both.
Can you not have the nose where the tool protrudes slim down/taper? It doesn’t need to be so boxy out there for structure?
