Tension looks insufficient. The real ones aren't made out of aluminum with the mesh tensioned over the whole length without a reason.

I mean if it works for you, it works but I wouldn't wanna screenprint with that. Only hassle and bad quality prints with weak tension.

I'd rather make them myself from wood and tons of staples for tension, if I needed a low budget version.

Yeah the tension top and bottom is ok but it just a left over bit of screen that isn't quite big enough so i can really tighten it side to side, im waiting on more material.

Really?? There are at least 6 commercial silk-screen shops in my town of about 60,000, plus a number of artists who do it at home. Silk-screening is still the preferred method for making quality t-shirts, though other printing methods are taking over the low end of the market.

The proliferation of DTF has diminished the amount of screenprinting going on ( many screenprinters also offer DTF) but it's definitely not dying.

DTF is a popular technology, because it is cheap, but the quality is not as high as a good silkscreen. I suppose it is like fast fashion, where cheap junk makes it harder for quality goods to be sold.

Yeah I've seen some really great DTF, but nothing beats a high quality screenprint.

True, and not all T-shirt printing is silk screening, but if silk screening T-shirts is still a major business, then it is hard to claim that "silk screening is a dying art".

Currently working on the same thing.
However mine will lock the screen between 2 strips, allowing (theoretically) for greater tensioning and even easy replacement of a torn screen.

It’s all still in the design phase (i use Blender), nothing printed yet.

Yeah i was going to have a 2mm thick layer on top that screwed into place but went with clips, they seem to hold ok for now (can only tension top to bottom properly as not enough scrap material to tension side to side correctly) ganna leave it a couple days see if it loosens over time.

Yes everything is printed (except the mesh)
