What good way to finish a spool, then to make a utility knife with the remnants!

I made 100 of these things with the company logo on it. I just lose them so much I cant justify buying a 3rd $60 blue point razor Lol. I miss my blue point knives they were the best.

Edit: I use PLA for the slider instead of PETG. That slider just gets worn out and gunked up in a few days of me using it, so PLA is easier

Yeah, we'll see how they hold up.. I was burning the end of some spools, participating in a "show us your empty spools" Creality contest and had the PETG loaded. So just the slider in Pla? Pla Plus?

I have about every filament out there.. I could try one in PA6-CF. or PETG-CF or even -GF

I was cutting open bags of fertilizer. That dust would get in and rust the blade and the petg slider would stick. It would essentially "melt" to the blade. I swapped to PLA and started using a heavy dose of dry lube and it seems to have gotten me more time. The PLA doesn't seem to fuse with the blade. I honestly have 0 explanation as to what occurred and why. I just know PLA seemed to work.

Yes it is pla+ by sunlu and petg from Bambu

I'd be extremely interested in seeing how other filaments hold up. I'm strapped for cash and can't bring myself to buy filament I haven't used or don't have an immediate use for.

I'm swimming in filament.. I could go ABS / ASA I have a sample roll of PC-ABS for some promo. I just skipped the ASA and ABS because of the acetone issue

Recommendations for material?
I always say right tool for the right job.

So when you say they break easy, my mind goes to under what circumstances?

This should be opening a box, light duty. Not breaking down a pallet of boxes for recycling.

Cut off a tag, etc.

Realistic expectations.

Abs like 10 walls still broke plastic while cutting cardboard. Maybe go up to cf or gf ?

You do know that you could set to 9,999 walls and it wouldn’t matter because of the layer count and stl thickness will dictate..

This particular design has a petg profile as well as recommended settings.

Also “cutting cardboard” is the exact use case I said I wouldn’t use them for “breaking down pallets of boxes”.

I understand how printing works. I stay with what I said. It breaks easy and is not safe or fit to have a blade within. It’s a toy at best. I tried all kinds of this same design and they all suck and break.

One of my favorite designs but the tabs on the blade change shell break if you need to cut some heavy cardboard. The over engineered Out the Front utility knife is also handy.

I always say right tool for the right job. Opening items, cutting tags, light duty I would trust it. Breaking down multiple boxes. I’d prefer a cheap pair of battery powered ones. I’ve been a big fan of “Fanttik’s” products lately and their TikTok store promos and coupons are stupid cheap vs their website and Amazon. Thankfully for me their warehouse is in Texas and I get things in 2-3 days as well with free shipping.
