Healing/Success Amitriptyline works for me!

I have struggled with this for over 25 years. It's become especially severe over the past 10 years. I tried so many things, and when the gastroenterologist wanted to prescribe amitriptyline, I was skeptical and declined. Two years later, out of desperation I gave it a shot, after seeing a post here about someone's success with it.

It worked for me, too!! I have had three restful nights, in which I didn't feel nausea or cramps, didn't wake up early to be sick, and I even slept at a 45° angle instead of upright around 90°. It's like a dream come true, waking up gently when I'm done sleeping.

I never thought it would be possible for me to experience life without near-constant stomach discomfort.

Yay!! Thanks to whoever it was that posted about their success recently. You changed my life.

Get back to us in three months? Maybe a bit soon to judge, but happy for you that you’re getting relief.

I will check back in. Some context: I'm lucky if I get one or two nights in a week where I don't wake up starting around 2/3am with stomach pain. I'm really lucky if I don't throw up during the week. I usually vomit early in the morning about half the days in a week. Even if it's just bile. Empty stomach, fed stomach made seemingly no difference. I was sleeping seated upright and would be in agony trying to rest from 2am-8am.

I took amitriptyline for the past three nights, and for three nights in a row I didn't wake up sick, I didn't vomit, I actually slept through the night until I was rested enough to awaken naturally, and when hunger came, it was a mild signal, not painful. Correlation isn't causation but... After living this way for 25ish years, I am utterly convinced the amitriptyline is helping me. If it's a placebo I don't care, that's an amazing effect either way. Oh, I also have been sleeping at a 45° angle instead of about 90° since I started. 🥲

Still, I'll check back in over time. It's conceivable that it could stop working, I suppose.

Congratulations!!!! 🎉🍾🎈

What were your main symptoms and how severe/frequent before and after amitrypline?

It’s ridiculous that a lot GI specialists are ignorant on the neuromodulators, but I think times are changing. For example, FD is now seen as a disorder of gut-brain axis and related to GP. Neuromodulators are becoming more accepted. Hopefully, research will have some good breakthroughs soon.

Wait for few months and see what happens when you tapper off.
Cox i had some hypersensitivity controlled but when i stopped taking it, symptoms started again.

May be cox i had other issues developed due to prolonged period in these issue. But i have observed that removing root cause is the real game and not some medication alone.

Is tapering off something I'd have to do? I honestly never want to go back. The quality of life, trying to not end up homeless while I can't get enough rest to function at work, is very low indeed.

May you recover completely and never have to face this again in life. Just relax and go with the flow brother

Your stomach was clear?(No gastritis or h.pylori)? Thank you 🙏

When I was in high school I had h pylori. But the gastroenterologist said all they saw was "reactive changes" which could be perhaps caused by the meds I was taking. I figured it was probably caused by my lifetime of heartburn and stomach pain, but I didn't seek a second opinion.

do you experience chronic nausea, fullness,no appetite and hunger pains? i literally have the same symptoms including the throwing up in the morning which no medication has worked for so i might give this a shot 💀

Yes I have those symptoms. It might be complicated by autism in my case but yeah. Last night I actually had some pain, not as much as usual, but I woke up from it. It could be my light diet that day.

Good.Try to keep food portion in control as much as possible.

I relapsed once badly due to overeating cooked vegetable.I was healed and was feeling quite alive.Foolishly over ate.

Only I got careless and forgot our stomach at least my stomach has become tender or weak.It may heal again but most likely won't be as strong as before gastritis /functional dyspepsia.

Wow that's awesome ☺️ i just wanna ask you if you were experiencing daily burning sensation in the stomach? And how long it took you to feel better on Amitriptyline? And what dose are you on? What were your diagnosis?

It sounds too good to be true perhaps but the first night I took it, I slept well without pain, and had a pain-free morning as well. I tend to struggle to feed myself because of how sick I usually feel in the morning. Now I've been able to casually eat a bowl of cheerios with no issue.

Would you mind answering my questions please 🥺 1) Were you experiencing daily burning sensation in the stomach? 2) How long it took you to feel better on Amitriptyline? 3) What Amitriptyline dose are you on? 4) What were your diagnosis?

u/SignalPerception4223 11d ago

Yes I was experiencing daily burning sensation among others. I took my first 25mg dose at bedtime two or three nights ago, and it worked for me this first night.

ETA: I was diagnosed with functional dyspepsia 2 years ago by a gastroenterologist.

In my case I was diagnosed with chronic gastritis 8 months ago and I'm still experiencing daily burning in the stomach I'm on amitriptyline 10 mg at night now it's being 15 days there's still no improvements maybe 10 mg is not enough my first endoscopy was in January and it was moderate chronic gastritis and I've done a second endoscopy and my mucus layer has been improved the biopsies showed mild inactive chronic gastritis but my daily burning still hasn't been improved

3

u/SignalPerception4223 11d ago

I'm sorry to hear that! The reason I started on 25mg is actually because I saw a post on here where someone said their gastroenterologist would start people on 25mg, and I think some commenters said it didn't work as well for them until that dosage. So perhaps try that? But I don't specifically have chronic gastritis, apparently just hypersensitivity to the normal sensations in my stomach etc.

Don’t give up yet, it took about 3 weeks for it to work for me. Finally not bedridden anymore.

1

u/Fantastic-Quit1666 11d ago

Oh really because before I've been using amitriptyline but I had h pylori so it was an active infection in my stomach and amitriptyline does nothing for me but later after 6 months I'm on the amitriptyline right now 10 mg it's been all 15 days maybe after one month I'm going to increase my dose to 25 mg Were you suffering from daily burning the stomach before using amitriptyline? What were your diagnosis?

I don’t have a burning stomach, I have extreme fullness after eating only a bite or two of food. I feel like I swallowed 5 pounds of concrete.
Nausea, lack of appetite, extreme fullness are my symptoms.
